CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

Chloe's POV

His father was alive. Jay had a father, and he was alive. This was great news! I don't know why Jay was so upset. I would be happy if I were him. I mean, you've never seen him, assume he's dead, and all of a sudden people tell you he's alive. Shouldn't you be excited? I reread his text.

...I don't know what to think. What kind of father just leaves his son to face the wickedness of the world? I feel rejected, unwanted, and pushed aside. He's never been there for me. Chloe, I'm scared...

Now it all made sense. He wasn't sure he wanted to meet his father because he had abandoned him. Poor Jay.

"Okay, so, if we sneak in at the-" I cut Rob off.

"That's not how to get in."

I had just come up with a better way to enter the WIO's little hideout. It was stupid, it was obvious, but it would work.

"What are you talking about, Chloe? This is a perfectly-" I shut him up again.

"What I'm saying is that they are going to be prepared for someone to try and get in that way," I reasoned.

Rob folded his arms over his chest.

"What do we do then?"

I smirked, "We just walk in."

"You're kidding?" Rob asked incredulously.

"No, actually I'm not."

He gaped at me. Oh, this was hilarious!

"Look at it this way, if we try and be all sneaky, they're going to realize we aren't their friends. On the other hand, if we walk in casually, they'll just think that we are another member of their "We Rule the World" thing."

"I guess that makes sense," he croaked.

"Well, then, what the Hölle are you sitting there for? Let's go!"

Jay's POV

I have to admit, when they said I was going to meet my dad, I though he would be...evil-looking or something. I mean, what was I supposed to expect? He freaking abandoned me!

No, this was not what I had imagined. Not in the least bit.

Thankfully, he wasn't on Jim and Ned's side. He was on, what I was assuming was, the good-guys team. But, I don't think the bad-guys liked him. I hadn't been treated as a captive, but he sure had been. I didn't even want to think about what they had done to him. It was too terrible. I think I would rather be dead than live the life he was living.

He had recognized me instantly. His eyes had sparkled with tears.

"Jay," he had said. "Jay, my son."

He didn't sound like the kind of person who would abandon their son. I was starting to actually question if he had. Surely, he had to have had a reason. A good reason. And I would find it out. That and a lot more. He had answers. I had questions.

The door to my room opened.

Please, tell me it's not Vanessa.

"Jay! Oh my God, Jay, it's you!"

I barely had time to register what was happening when I felt myself being flung backwards onto my bed.

"C-Chloe?"

It was her! It was really her. She had come. I saw Rob behind her, grinning. I held my hand up at him. He nodded. I guess we were friends again.

"Um...shouldn't we be leaving now? Before..." Rob said.

Right.

"Yeah, let's go. This place creeps me out."
