EPILOGUE TWO – TWO YEARS AFTER THE END...ISH

KAGE’S P.O.V

“Should we rent it or something? I don’t know, is it weird just to leave it empty now? Alicia was there, then Tino. I’m tempted to keep it this way for whoever needs it next.” I’m dripping with sweat from training, heaving for breath, and she wants to talk about what we're going to do with the apartment?

“Sure, wait for the right person that needs it.” With this family, you never know who’s going to walk into our lives next needing a place to stay. “Besides, it's good to have somewhere we can sneak off to and be alone again.” I can’t see her, just her voice through the phone, but I know she’s smiling.

Teal is a pretty chilled kid, but he still takes a lot of time and energy, not to mention how busy we both are. Sometimes the ten minutes we get alone in that apartment on her break is all we get all day.

I didn’t think my career would take off this fast, and if Granny's gets any busier she's going to have to open a second place, but I wouldn’t change a thing.

“That's true... Brie sent me another fucking house listing this morning. One of her clients is selling the beach house just down at the road from Josh and Milo.” I understand why Brie feels this way, people don’t get why we stay in a house on the Southside when we could afford so much more, but it’s all we want. I grew up with nothing, stuff isn’t really important to me, and it isn’t to Shorty either.

That house is our home. We're never leaving it.

“Tell her to fucking buy it.” Her and Steve could probably use something a bit more secluded. They get an abnormal amount of noise complaints from their neighbours where they are. You think she would’ve soundproofed the walls when she rebuilt it. “Are you close?”

“Just pulling into the parking lot. Oh shit is that a-“ She hangs up, but I still hear her hitting the wall from outside. I’m completely convinced Brie paid off whoever it is that gave her her licence. There's no way she passed on her own.

I love her, more than anything in this world, but her lack of spatial awareness is terrifying.

I’ve been running the ropes all day, but I get straight back to it while I wait for her to tape her bumper back on. I got injured a few weeks ago, nothing big, but they want me to return next week and I want to make sure I’m ring-ready.

This is it. Two years of building myself up, winning every other championship, and my return match is going to be the biggest one of my life.

I couldn’t have done it without her.

“Mama T said she’ll give Teal dinner, so do you wanna grab something on the way...” I don’t think I’ll ever get bored of her looking at me like this.

“What was that, Shorty?” She's too busy looking at the sweat dripping down my abs to hear me.

How is she this beautiful? She’s been working all day, running around trying to get everything sorted so her and Teal can come with me on the European Tour, and she’s still perfect. I can’t be without them for that long, I only agreed to go if they could come.

You’d never know how stressed she is by looking at her, even though the idea of filling in passport forms makes her gag. Her curls are wild and free, her eyes sparkling with the same life as the day we met, and that body... That fucking body...

Come here so I can do unspeakable things to it.

“I... Y-You... You need to take a shower before you get in my car.” We both know I’m not getting in your car. You’ve nearly killed me three times.
