Mateo POV
“Rufus open up” Francis knocked on the door and tried to open the locked door
“Coming” Rufus said through the door as he buckled his pants up and I put my shirt back one
"You good?" he asked me and sat down next to me
"Yeah go one stage, I'll see you when your off stage" I told him and we kissed again and Rufus walked out of the room
When he was gone I grabbed my phone and did what I’ve been avoiding to do; I finally called Lidia
I clicked on her number and held the phone to my ear, the phone rang once, then twice, then another time, then she finally picked up
“Mateo?” Lidia yawned
“Hey…did I wake you up?” I asked her
“Yeah it’s like 10” Lidia told me and I became very aware of the time
“Oh sorry about waking you up and about how I’ve been acting” I said and I could hear her sighing
“Well I did kinda unload a lot on you, I know I should’ve talked to you first just-”Lidia started
“No it’s okay, I know you want more support and-”
“Mateo that's not the reason, Your amazing and you’ve been an amazing friend and an amazing uncle” She told me which made me smile
“But I need to be on my own, before you I lived with Chirstian and before Christian I lived with my parents; I need to be an adult and take care of my daughter on my own; that's what I moved into my abuela's second home so I can be independent” Lidia explained to me
“I…I understand and I’m really proud” I told her and even thought I couldn’t see her face I knew she was smiling
“I also decided I’m not gonna finish the paper” I told her
“Why?” She asked sounding slightly concerned
“Because writing isn’t what I want to do, I’m going back to school undecided and gonna explore my options until I find what I want to do” I explained to her
“That actually sounds really cool” Lidia said sweetly
“Thanks, It’s almost a gift that Penny deleted my entire essay” I joked
“She did what?” Lidia asked shocked and sounded more awake
“It’s fine, really” I laughed and got an message from Francis to get onstage
“I have to go, I’ll call you later” I told her and hung up the phone and ran out of the room
