CHAPTER 13

'I'm just glad you're home safe'

"You came! It's nice to see you." Gayle hugged me and I did the same. Sinundo niya 'ko sa airport at paglabas ko ay siya agad ang sumalubong sa 'kin.

"Salamat sa pambubwiset mo sa 'kin." I whispered in her ear.

I heard her chuckle. "Your welcome." Kumalas ito sa pagkakayakap sa 'kin. "Anyways, that's Dan, give him your luggage and let's go home. Mom has been wanting to see you." She said enthusiastically.

I knew something's very wrong with her. She was never this lively seeing me and lively Gayle means sad Gayle. She's trying to make people believe that she's been living a happy life.

Nauna itong naglakad papasok sa kotse niya at nasunod naman ako. Hindi ko inakala na pati rito ay dala pa rin niya ang bodyguard niyang ilang taon nang loyal sa kanya. I've never seen a person as loyal as Dan to Gayle. Kahit dati pang parents ni Gayle ang nagpapasahod sa kanya ay kay Gayle pa rin ang loyalty niya.

Well, his father has been the bodyguard of Gayle's grandma: Austria. So, I should not wonder, right? Nagmana lang talaga siya sa Ama niya. Or his father might have taught him well. Yeah?

"I'm so glad you're one call away." Nakangiting ani Gayle nang magsimula nang umandar ang sasakyan

I rolled my eyes out of her ungenuine facade. She called me a lot of times though. I thought coming at this time would be late.

Sumandal ako sa sandalan ng kinauupuan ko at hindi na nag abalang sagutin siya. I don't know what she wants from me but whatever it is, I hope I can give a hand.

"When are you going to come back?" Unang tanong ko sa kanya.

"Maybe, soon."

Maybe soon? I hope that 'soon' is not when everything's getting out of hand. I hope that it will not be too late for her when she finally decides.

Pagkarating namin sa bahay nina Kris ay agad akong sinalubong ng Mama at asawa ng kapatid niya. I respectfully greeted them and we talked for a while before they left me with Gayle in the kitchen.

Nagsimulang magluto si Gayle ng tanghalian habang nagsisimulang magkuwento ng kung ano sa 'kin. Habang ako naman ay nakaupo lang sa kitchen counter habang naglalaro sa laptop niya.

"I just saw Louryn, Kris's niece earlier. Kris's right, she really does look like you." Mahinang ani ko. Nakapangalumba ako sa kaliwang kamay habang ang kanan naman ay gumagalaw sa mouse.

"She's my daughter." Ngumiwi ako habang pinagmamasdan ang likod niya. You wish, Gayle.

"How's everything going in here? Out of all the places, bakit nandito ka?" Tanong ko sa kanya bigla.

I just can't understand. Kung gusto niyang lumayo, bakit sa lugar pa kung saan mabilis siyang mahanap.

"Everything's falling to places. And I'm here because Kris's family is here. At least I could still feel her here-"

"You think that's right, Gayle?"

"No. This is not right at all but I'll just figure it out."

"Hm? Figure it out? It's been almost four months, Gayle. When are you going to figure it out? Kapag huli na ang lahat?"

"Dhayne, hear me out first. I'm trying to protect Kris. Lumayo ako nang hindi nagpapaalam sa kanya and that was wrong. But I did that para isipin ni Simon na hiwalay na kami. In that way, he would stop trying to harm Kris."
