Chapter 6

The next morning, Joshua got up with a smile on his face. He was staring his new job and he couldn't wait. He was looking forward to it. He wanted to move out of this dump that he was living in now. He wanted to find a better place for Clara.

He got up and got dressed. He fed Clara, got her dressed and then got ready to drop her off at Marie's. That's where Alex was picking him up. But before he left, he made sure to look at himself in the mirror. He looked nice and he wasn't afraid to admit that. He couldn't help but smile. After dropping Clara off at Marie's apartment. He hopped into the backseat of the SUV that Alex was in.

"Morning, Alex." Joshua greeted Alex as he got into the car. Alex smiled at him. "Morning, Joshua. How are you feeling about starting your new job?" Alex asked him. Joshua was nervous but he was excited.

"I'm feeling nervous but I'm excited. I love graphic design. I always have and I'm excited to actually do the job that I've always wanted to do." Joshua told Alex. Alex nodded in understanding.

"I want a better life for Clara." Joshua stated.

"Your daughter?"

"Yeah, she was left on my doorstep when she was five months old. She's one year old now. So, I have her a couple of months." Joshua replied. Alex's mouth dropped open. He couldn't believe that she was just left on Joshua's doorstep.

"She was just left on your doorstep?" Alex asked. He was driving through the New York traffic now. They were stuck at the lights.

"Yeah, I could've given her to the foster system, but I didn't want to. She was already too attached to me and I didn't want to let her go."

"Did you ever try to find out who her mother was?" Alex asked. Joshua nodded. "I worked with social services to try and find her mother, but we couldn't. So, I decided to adopt her. I named her Clara since there was no birth certificate filed." Joshua replied.

"There was no birth certificate filed?" Alex asked. Joshua shook his head.

"Nope. The mother just left the hospital with Clara. I guess, she tried for a couple of months but then she just ended up on my doorstep. I'm not complaining, Clara is an amazing baby. She doesn't cry very often so that's a good thing." Joshua told Alex.

Alex still couldn't imagine leaving a child on a stranger's doorstep.

Alex was going to let Joshua decide if he wanted to tell Clay or not. They pulled up outside the office building. Joshua looked up at the big building that was sitting there.

That's a lot of floors. Joshua thought as he looked up at the building that he had been the day before. He opened the door to the car and got out. He straightened out his suit. "You ready?" Alex asked him. Joshua nodded. They both walked into the building and, Joshua got his ID badge for the building.

"Hey, you must be our new graphic designer." A woman comes up to him with a smile. "I'm Emily." She held a hand-out for Joshua to shake which Joshua took with a smile. "Thank you, I'm happy to be here." Joshua told her.

"If you'll follow me, I'll show you to your desk." She told him and Joshua stared following her into the elevator and the elevator stopped on the fifth floor. Which was just one floor below where Clay's office was.

Emily stopped at a desk that was clear and it looked like it had just been cleaned. There was a computer and a couple of desk drawers. "We can get everything set up and then you can start working right away." Emily told him with a bright smile on her face.

After getting everything set up on the computer and getting Joshua's company email set up, Joshua started working right away. He smiled as he worked through some stuff that was left to be done.

"Hey, Joshua. How are you liking things here?" Joshua looked up and saw Clay standing there with a smile on his face. Joshua smiled back at him. Man, he is hot. Joshua thought as he couldn't help but stare at the man in front of him that was wearing a three-piece suit.

"Things are going good." Joshua replied, Clay nodded in response.

"I'm sorry that I couldn't greet you this morning. I had an early meeting but I'm sure that Emily met you and showed you to the desk, right?" Clay asked him. Joshua nodded.

"Yes, she did, and we got the email set up and now I'm just working on some stuff that Emily said that was left to be done." Joshua replied. Clay's eyebrow rose.
"Oh. Can I see?" Clay asked and came around to look over Joshua's shoulder. He could the man's aftershave. Damn, he smelt good. Joshua thought. He couldn't help but breathe in the smell.

"This looks really good, Joshua. Damn, I'm glad that I hired you before anyone else saw how good your work was. You said that you went for other interviews, did they not ask for your portfolio?" Clay asked. Joshua nodded.

"Some of them did. Some didn't. They still didn't hire me." Joshua replied. Clay chuckled. "Well, they missed out because your work is amazing. Well done. Alex will give you a ride back home after you finish work here." Clay told him. Joshua nodded.

"Thank you for that. I wouldn't have a ride here if it wasn't for Alex." Joshua told Clay.

"Your welcome and if you keep producing work like this. It is definitely worth it." Clay told Joshua. Joshua blushed. He couldn't help it. His cheeks started to turn a deep shade of red and Joshua was hoping that Clay wouldn't notice so he turned his head away. Clay checked his watch.

"Well, I have to get to another meeting, so I'll see you later." Clay told him. He squeezed his shoulder and left his little desk area. Joshua sighed. Damn, it had been a long time before another man had touched him like that.

Joshua distracted himself with his work and tried not to let his thoughts linger on the sexy CEO that was in a meeting upstairs with someone.

Clay was just finished his meeting and he walked out of the meeting room and back into his office. He thought back to the time where he was with Joshua. Damn, he wanted him so bad. He would do anything to get this man into his bed. He started to wonder if anyone ever touched him before. Before, he could think about that any longer, he got an email.

Clay looked at his computer. He had just received an email about a charity ball that he had to attend. He would probably be expected to being a date. He was Clay King after all. He didn't want to bring just anyone. He wanted to bring Joshua.

Clay didn't know why but he just did. And that's exactly what he was going to do.
