Everyone has problems. Light problems, like what to have for dinner tonight. Heavy problems, like what to do with life. As life goes on, you pile all your problems in the shopping trolley of responsibility, and you pull it up the hill of life. Some of your problems grow so light they just float away. Some are so heavy, you have to stop and figure out how best to proceed. But if you have a few really heavy problems, that trolley might just start sliding back down hill, and drag you with it.
Kurt's got an ex-girlfriend, his symbol of pain, a best-friend, an irrational fear, and a whole lot of dirty looks and stifled laughs aimed at his back.
Layne's got a history of black eyes and broken bones, a new school to map, new faces to memorise, and a big pile of boxes to unpack.
When you add the two together, you get unresolved feelings, more black eyes and broken ribs, tears, very unmanly giggles, a fed up Dave, and more than a couple pissed off ticking time-bombs.
Both of them have problems, but when a cute boy jumps on top of your pile of problems, this is your chance to either give up and let him weigh your trolley down-hill, or ask him nicely to get off and help you push.
Without the mask of this stupid analogy, the line is a lot more blurred than you think.
