A silvery hedgehog floated through the air, staring down at the destruction and fire below him. Buildings had broken, collapsed, sat reaching for the sky only to fall into the fiery pit of despair. This was his world, a place where hardly anyone could survive, those that did weren't happy, weren't living, just doing what they could to make sure they woke up in the morning.
What had happened to make his world like this was the only story the hedgehog knew of his time. A (a/t) had done it. Some said she was good to start with, others said she was always evil, a devil in disguise. The hedgehog was skeptical considering she wouldn't be alive anymore, no one would really know what she was like. But the story was always interesting to the hedgehog, hearing of how this (a/t) was pushed to their limit, to finally snap and unleash all sorts of chaos on the world.
The heroes of old had failed to stop them, they had been betrayed by the (a/t), someone that was apparently considered a friend. To hear such legends had fallen to the power of the (a/t), it was awe inspiring to the hedgehog, it was terrifying, and it was something that would keep him up at night. Because for some strange reason, it felt like he could do something to prevent such a calamity.
He had had this feeling for a long time, and it was the only reason the hedgehog had bothered to collect the famous Chaos Emeralds. He had finally managed to collect all seven and was preparing to use them to travel back in time to try and save his future. It was a terrifying ordeal, as he had never done something like this before, however the hedgehog had no choice, if he wanted to save his world, he'd have to take the risk.
So here he stood, the seven emeralds floating around him. The silvery hedgehog closed his gold eyes and started thinking of the past. He wasn't sure exactly what timeframe to travel to, he just knew the events happened in the past 200 years. So where else to start than 200 years into the past?
A light feeling took over the hedgehog, and the heat of his time disappeared. Instead, he was met with a cool breeze, and when he opened his eyes, he was surrounded by bright green trees. The hedgehog looked around with wide eyes, taken back by the wonderful colour. He had never seen such... Bright... Vibrant... Life.
"Wow..." He said, spinning on his heal as he took everything in, "This is amazing!"
The hedgehog stopped, before a turquoise glow surrounded him and he took flight up through the trees, appearing over a forest. He spun in the air, a huge smile on his face. Seeing such a beautiful colour... He could hardly imagine it was real. And to think this is all destroyed in the future.
The smile faded, turned to a frown. That's right, he wasn't here on some field trip, he had a job to do. The hedgehog would have to figure out what was going to happen, and how he could stop it.
But... Where to start...?
That was when a blue blur appeared through the trees, zipping and zagging around them, disappearing in and out of the leaves. The silvery hedgehog tilted his head, before following the blue blur. Eventually he made his way to a house by itself in a field, and the hedgehog kept his distance, watching as the other came to a stop.
A blue hedgehog stood outside the modern looking house, scratching his ling blue quills before disappearing inside. The silvery hedgehog huffed to himself, making his way over to the house. Hopefully, he could find a lead here.
Once in front of the door, he knocked, lines already in his mind. It didn't take long for it to swing open, the blue hedgehog staring at him in confusion.
"Uh... Can I help you?" He asked, tilting his head.
"Yes." The silver hedgehog nodded, "My name is Silver, I'm from the future and I'm here to save it."
"Silver huh..?" The other put a hand on his hip, "How far into the future are we talking?"
"Exactly 200 years. From the light research I managed to do all evidence pointed to the event that causes the planet's destruction to happen around this timeframe." Silver said.
The other hedgehog blinked, "Right... Well Silver, I wish you good luck in finding whatever that cause is."
"Wait." He stepped forward, "I know I'm a complete stranger, and you have no reason to believe or trust me. But I've... I've never seen the planet like this before. Whether you believe me or not, I could really use some help."
The blue hedgehog stared at him for a bit, emerald eyes searching the other, before he let out a long sigh and shook his head.
"Fine." He said, stepping aside, "Name's Sonic, come on in."
Silver gave a wide smile and stepped into the house, looking around at the décor. The pale blue walls and white trim seemed to add a cutesy feel to the house, as well as the houseplants that lined the windows in the kitchen and dining room. This was like nothing the futuristic hedgehog had ever seen before.
The blue hedgehog, Sonic, lead him into another room with a dark grey couch. The two sat down and at first Sonic started asking questions of the future. Silver did his best to respond, considering there wasn't much to talk about. Everything was destroyed, on fire, there was never a blue sky nor rain, food was extremely hard to come by. There were hardly any Mobians alive in the future, those that did survive were built to, only the strong would survive.
Sonic took all this information in, nodding to some information, staring at the floor hearing other things. Once Silver had finished answering his questions, he seemed to be in deep thought, his thumbs tapping together. The silvery hedgehog got nervous, holding his arm and looking around the room.
"Well, I doubt someone would just make all that up." Sonic finally said, and Silver felt himself relax.
"Thank you..." He said, smiling at Sonic gratefully.
"So, got any info on what happened to your time?" The other next asked. He leant back into the couch, "If it's someone I know I could probably pull you in the right direction."
Silver nodded, he then told his new friend the story of the powerful (a/t) that wiped everyone out. Sonic sat and listened, but the more he heard of the story, the deeper the frown on his face got. The futuristic hedgehog was confused, this was either good news or bad, and he couldn't read Sonic's face anymore than the disappointment in his eyes. As soon as he finished his story, Sonic got to his feet.
"The information wasn't a lot. Some powerful (a/t)?" He scratched his head, "I know a (a/t), but I doubt it's her. We're good friends her and I."
"Any lead is a good lead." Silver said, also jumping to his feet, "If you wouldn't mind, could we please go meet her?"
"I don't know her plans, but I can call her and invite her over." Sonic said with a shrug, "But I'm serious, I don't think it's her at all. She's been a part of my friend group for a long time."
Half the day passed before there was a knock at the door, startling Silver. He had been chilling out on the couch, waiting impatiently for this mysterious (a/t) to arrive. But now that she was here he was feeling nervous. What if she was the cause of the destruction of his planet? What was he going to do? He knew he wouldn't be able to kill her, so would talking be enough? He really hoped so.
Sonic opened the door and all Silver could see was a flash of (f/c). The blue hedgehog stood in the doorway, greeting his supposed friend before letting her inside, and Silver couldn't believe his eyes.
The (f/c) (a/t) was gorgeous, with (e/c) eyes that looked around the room before landing on the silver hedgehog and (h/l) (h/c) hair that sat cutely around her face. She stepped into the living room and held her arm, glancing around the rooms once more as if expecting something.
"(Y/N), this is Silver. Silver, this is (Y/N)." Sonic introduced, stepping between the two.
"Hi Silver, nice to meet you." The (a/t) said, sounding awfully kind.
"Likewise." Silver responded, nodding his head.
Sonic looked between the two, before letting out a sigh and sitting on the couch. He mumbled something about her 'being the wrong person' and the (a/t) tilted her head in confusion. Silver huffed, rolling his eyes at the other, but he realised that he really didn't have much of a lead. So, he decided to explain himself.
He told (Y/N) that he was from the future, that it was destroyed by a (a/t) who betrayed her friends, and that he was here to stop that from happening. The (a/t) listened, but the more she heard of the story, the more uncomfortable she became. Sonic was watching the two, keeping his eyes on his friend in case anything happened.
As soon as Silver finished his story, the (a/t) gave a weak chuckle and shook her head. She seemed nervous now, and the futuristic hedgehog narrowed his eyes at her. The girl was gripping onto her arm tightly and she wouldn't keep eye contact. Something was up and he knew it. (Y/N) glanced over at Sonic and something flashed in her eyes, like a sort of hatred.
"So this is why you called me here?" She asked, her tone light compared to the glare she held, "Not to hang out or anything, but to accuse me of being evil?"
The blue hedgehog's ears perked and he held his hands up, shaking his head, "No definitely not! I invited you here to prove you weren't the bad guy."
"Well sorry to say, but your friend is right." The girl said, a smirk spreading out on her muzzle.
"Wh... What...?" Sonic blinked, tilting his head at her. She only chuckled in response, holding her head as if in disdain and shaking it.
"Man, I wanted to do this differently, but since you were so fast to accuse me of being evil... Alright, I'll play your little game."
And with that, she held up her hand. A canon appeared around it and lit up, and she shot Sonic out of the room. The hedgehog yelled as he crashed through a wall into another room, and the (a/t) took the distraction to run off. Silver was shocked, he thought he was right but... Well he actually was.
And on the first try.
But he shook his head. No, stay focused. Running over to the hole in the wall, he leant into the next room calling Sonic's name. The blue hedgehog responded with a groan, slowly getting to his feet and dusting himself off. The fur on his stomach was singed, but otherwise alright. The shot clearly didn't have enough power behind it.
"Alright, you were right." He said, sounding annoyed and confused, "Guess it was her... I just want to know why."
"I do too." Silver said, "As soon as I figure it out, I'll get to the bottom of it and save the world."
Sonic smiled at that, giving him a thumbs up, "You're clearly a good guy Silver, and an excellent hero. Hopefully, we can get to (Y/N) before she becomes unstoppable. Let's go."
Silver nodded, and the two took off out of the house. After running and flying for a while they come to a stop, Sonic gripping his stomach in pain. Silver landed next to him and gave him a worried look, but the other waved him off,
"Probably just broken ribs, I'll be fine." He said, searching the area, "It's no use, we lost her."
Silver bit his lip at the remark, also searching the horizon for any hint as to where the (a/t) could have gone. There was no sign of her, she must be just as quick as them to have lost the two so easily. That, or this was a trap.
"Looking for me?" A female voice came from behind the two, and Silver's ears perked to the sound of a powered-up cannon.
"Look out!" He yelled, jumping in front of Sonic and pulling up a shield. The contact of the energy ball hitting his telekinetic shield caused the two to skid back, but otherwise they were unscathed.
Sonic growled to himself, staring at the (a/t) through the turquoise coloured shield. He glanced at Silver and gave him a nod. Silver nodded as well, and Sonic jumped up. After turning into a ball, Silver caught him in his telekinesis and threw him at (Y/N). The girl growled and fired a weaker shot at Sonic, but he broke through and hit her into the ground.
She yelped as she hit the ground, and Sonic landed next to her, shaking his quills. They were singed slightly now. Silver flew over and stood next to Sonic, staring down at the (a/t).
"Why?" Sonic asked, stepping closer to the girl as she let out a groan of pain, "Why are you doing this?"
"Why? Why not?" The girl giggled, glaring at the other, "If it's a way to make you and your friends see me, then why not?"
"What do you mean?!" Sonic yelled now, growling.
"I mean I'm sick of being in the background, of being the one behind the pack! I want to prove myself, prove my worth by destroying all those that dared to ignore me!" (Y/N) yelled, throwing her hands in the air, another cannon appearing around her other arm, "You can only push someone so far before they snap!"
A ball of white light appeared between her hands, growing in size as she spoke, and by the time it was the size of a beach ball, it was thrown at the two hedgehogs. Silver flew out of the way, growling as he saw Sonic barely dodge it. There was no way he could fight this, his shield before barely kept up with that amount of power. And the futuristic hedgehog guessed she had a lot more in store considering she manages to defeat Sonic and destroy the planet.
No, the hedgehog would have to find another way to stop this from happening. He growled to himself, trying to figure out what his next move should be. And then it hit him. He flew down to Sonic, grabbing his arm and pulling him away from the (a/t). Taking flight, he explained his plan to the hedgehog.
"If I don't do this, you will all die." Silver finished off, "So I'm going to leave now. All I can suggest is running away, don't fight her."
"Right." Sonic nodded, grabbing onto his new friend's arm, "And Silver, you were right. The future is counting on you."
Silver nodded, before letting go of the blue hedgehog. Seeing Sonic take off in a blue blur, disappearing over the horizon in seconds, helped him relax. Good. Sonic would be safe for now. But it was time to put his plan into action.
The hedgehog glanced around, deeming the area safe and taking cover in the forest. Once his feet hit the ground, the Chaos Emeralds appeared around him. Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath and thought about going back in time once again. Feeling light, and then a much stronger breeze, the hedgehog opened his eyes.
He was still in the same forest, but something seemed different. Hopefully, that worked. Going back another 2 years shouldn't change the world that much, should it? Silver didn't have much information on nature in that sense.
But what did make sense was his plan. Considering what he had learnt about the (a/t), knowing who she was, what caused her to turn, he knew exactly what he was going to do. Now was just the challenge of finding her.
Thankfully, he managed to find the (a/t) and her group of friends at a café in a very populated city. Seeing such a place was awe-inspiring to the hedgehog, considering all his buildings in the future were destroyed. To see what they used to look like, and recognising a few, really made the hedgehog happy.
But no, he couldn't get distracted. Now that he had found (Y/N), he had to put his plan into action. And so, the observing phase started. To start his plan, he wanted to understand just how bad things were for the (a/t) and her friends, try to figure out what pushed her to betraying them. As soon as he knows what he's dealing with, then he'll act.
So, for now, he sat at the café, watching as the group of people spoke and laughed. He spotted (Y/N) instantly, sitting a little bit further away from the group than the others. She seemed to be watching them almost sadly, sitting in silence and leaning on her arm. After a while, having no one talk to her at all, she pulled out her phone and started scrolling through it.
Her friends noticed this and commented on her being antisocial. The girl went to protest but was shut down. So, she put her phone away and continued to listen to the others talking about Gods know what. That's when Silver saw Sonic in the group. He was more around the middle, surrounded by a pink hedgehog, yellow fox, and a few others. The hedgehog couldn't help but feel angered at them, their blatant ignorance was going to lead to their deaths.
But they didn't know that, and Silver couldn't do anything to change how they acted. All he could do for the moment was observe, and he did so for the next few weeks. Watching as the group made plans in front of the (a/t) and left without asking her, left her alone multiple times whether it was at the shops or a restaurant, a park. It happened multiple times and every time the girl would just look... Sad.
Silver couldn't help but feel terrible for her, watching her being left behind like this, it made sense that she would become the bad guy, even he would eventually snap and maybe yell at them.
But one day in particular he really did get mad. It was a particularly nice day, and (Y/N) actually seemed to be really happy. She was running to the park where all her friends were hanging. Seeing them there already, joking around and laughing, she faltered, but shook her head and hurried over to join the group. They welcomed her, and Silver heard them wish her a happy birthday.
She thanked them, before asking what the plan for the day was. Turns out they were planning on going to a concert, and all the tickets had been sold out. The (a/t) glanced around the group, tilting her head almost hopefully that they may have gotten her a ticket as a present, but they only watched her, already expecting her to have one.
When she told them she didn't have one, they all seemed to complain. Apparently they had spoken about it a whole bunch before this, but the (a/t) insisted she didn't know of any plans. The pink hedgehog eventually told her they had spoken of it on some form of technology Silver had only seen since he'd been here. (Y/N) got upset at that, telling her group of 'friends' that they know she doesn't use social media, and one of them should have called or mentioned it.
But it was too late now, they already had their tickets and plans, and they didn't include the (a/t). On her birthday.
After changing the conversation, the (a/t) was again pushed to the back of the group, having fallen sullen, and then everyone left to prepare for the concert. As soon as they were gone, (Y/N) fell to her knees, holding her head in her hands as she started to cry. Silver could tell as her shoulders shook, and he finally broke.
Floating over, he landed gently next to the (a/t), trying to figure out what to say or do. He felt strange, just standing here, watching as she cried. He'd have to say something before she noticed he was just staring at her.
Clearing his throat, he knelt next to the upset girl. Her ears twitched but she didn't raise her head, instead she tensed up.
"Are you okay...?" He asked, blanking on what to actually say or ask.
"D... Do I look okay to you...?" The (a/t) asked, sniffing and wiping her muzzle.
"No... Sorry." Silver took a seat next to her, "I couldn't help but overhear the conversation with your friends... That's pretty terrible."
"You'd think they'd maybe think about me on my birthday..." She said, hugging her knees now. The (a/t) sniffed again and turned her head to look at Silver. She blinked, seeing him for the first time, "What's your name..?"
"I'm Silver." The hedgehog said with a small smile, "Happy birthday by the way."
"Th... Thanks..." The girl averted her gaze, "I'm (Y/N)..."
"Do your friends do that to you often?" Silver asked next, "Ditch you, I mean."
He already knew the answer, but not wanting to come off as a creep, decided to try and earn her trust. The (a/t) scoffed, wiping her nose, and getting to her feet. She told him that they did it all the time, and she was sick of it, especially now that it had happened on her birthday. She had been so excited to maybe be treated a little differently, but no, they just never saw her.
Silver listened and nodded, and the (a/t) snorted,
"Sorry, I don't know why I'm bothering you with this. It's not like it matters anyway..." She held her arm, staring at the grass as if in pain.
"No, it matters a lot." Silver said, reaching forward and touching her arm lightly, "I... I know you don't know me all that well, but would you like to spend the day with me? It saves being alone on your birthday. We can do whatever you want."
(Y/N) looked at him and offered a small smile, "If that isn't a bother... You seem like a nice guy. Why have I never seen you before?"
"I'm... Not from around here." The hedgehog scratched his head, deciding not to tell her about his reasons for being here, "I'm new to this city, I have no clue what to do here. I could use an escort."
"Then what are we waiting for? There are so many great things to do here!" (Y/N) said, sounding much more enthusiastic now. She grabbed Silver's hand and started dragging him through the park, smile on her muzzle. And he smiled too, his plan was in action; to befriend her and treat her the right way, and she was already really nice.
So Silver hung with the (a/t) for the rest of the day, and the day afterward, and after that. Soon enough they were close friends, and (Y/N) introduces Silver to the group. They were wary of him at first, but with enough pestering from the (a/t), the group finally eased up and welcomed him. With the addition of a new-found friend that actually paid attention to her, the girl's confidence grew as well, and she started pushing herself into the conversation more.
Silver stayed with that group, and specifically with (Y/N) for the next few years. He made sure to include her in everything, to strike conversation with her. It was actually very easy, considering the two had created a strong friendship, Silver forgot of his plan to save the world, and instead focused on living in the present. All he cared about was making sure the (a/t) was happy, making sure she knew her worth, making sure she wasn't left behind or out of anything.
For two years, Silver built a life in the present. He figured out how society worked, got a job and saved up to rent a cheap apartment. He got his hands on an old phone and kept in contact with (Y/N) whenever he wasn't able to hang out with her. It didn't take long for the hedgehog to develop a crush for the (a/t), it was something Sonic and his other friends made fun of him for.
And Silver couldn't deny that his feelings were strong. They just felt right to him, and he was reminded of that feeling he had had in the future, of being pulled to the present, of the feeling that he was the only one who could do something to save the world...
And he realised that that was what the feeling had been all along. It was (Y/N) calling for him, whether she knew it or not. It was fate, bringing the two together. And Silver was confident in his feelings. Surely the (a/t) had to feel the same way.
So, he did the next thing he knew he could do. On the day of the (a/t)'s birthday, exactly 2 years after they had first met, Silver lead (Y/N) to the very park where they had met, the same place they had spent so much time together talking, reading, doing fun projects. Today, on her birthday, he was going to ask her out.
"Alright Silver, we're here. What is it?" (Y/N) asked, a hand on her hip as she stared at Silver expectantly.
The hedgehog couldn't help but smile, any nerves he may have had in any other situation just didn't exist. They sat under a tree near a pond, and the hedgehog took his friends hands in his, and he stared into her (e/c) eyes.
"(Y/N), these past two years have been the best two years of my life." He said, and the girl smiled wide. She knew, she totally knew what was about to happen. Silver returned the smile and continued, "You made my life so much better, more than you could ever understand."
"I feel the same way." The (a/t) said, her tail wagging behind her, "Before you came into my life, I was bitter and cold, and I didn't believe in myself. I don't know what would have happened had you not come into my life, but I'm so so so grateful you did."
The hedgehog was beaming now. Knowing he had been able to make her so happy, so confident, knowing he had changed her fate, his fate, that they were here together...
"Please be my girlfriend." He blurted out, his cheeks turning red. That wasn't exactly how he imagined asking her, the hedgehog having planned some other grand way. But the girl only giggled and leant forward, giving him a kiss on the lips,
"Happily."
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THIS REQUEST IS NEARLY 8 DAMN PAGES LOOOOOOOONG!!! This is by far my longest one-shot ever, standing at 4,512 words!
I just couldn't make this a short chapter. I took forever thinking of a plot for it as it was, but as soon as I had and idea, I knew it was going to be hella detailed and long. AND HERE IT IS, nearly 8 pages of hopefully good stuff!
I admit this was probably very crammed considering it's just one request, and I didn't break it up for once, but I just couldn't. This had to be a singular story. And I am SO proud of it, like this took me three days to write (had some trouble – I was motivated, just lazy), a little bit on one day, like maybe a page, another 3 pages another day, and then 4 pages on the third day (it's like nearly 1am rn when I'm finishing the story/writing this note)
Either way, I hope you all enjoyed this story! I put so much effort and planning into it, I was up hella late the night before too just trying to plan the last 4 pages so I could get it all in order XD
