The One When Emily Is Dead

Emily loudly groaned as she felt herself slowly beginning to wake up before an even louder moan fell from her lips as she opened up her green irises and felt like her brain was bouncing off every surface of her head. The Gilbert girl just laid there for a moment as she tried to get over this nuisance pain that she felt. However, once Emily felt comfortable to sit up and move around, she couldn't help but release a small gasp after she glanced around her surroundings.

Emily felt absolutely baffled as she looked around the foggy woods right outside of Fells' Church - where her involvement in the supernatural world essentially started with the Salvatore vampires walking into her life, where they had opened up the tomb together and found out about Katherine along with so many other important events that had taken place here.

Emily honestly felt so confused at the moment. She had no idea how she ended up in the woods - nonetheless why she was waking up right in front of the location where the Fells' Church used to be. The Gilbert girl didn't like not knowing what was going on, so she decided that she was going to investigate and figure out how she ended up in the woods.

Emily slowly and sluggishly pushed her seemingly sore body up from the hard and leaf-covered ground before she took a wary glance at her surroundings with a look of utter confusion. "H-Hello?" The Gilbert girl cautiously called out as she took very small steps as if she was afraid that she would fall through the ground at any moment.

"What the hell is going on?" Emily muttered to herself after she waited for a response and not only did she not hear anyone but she couldn't even hear the sound of any animals or insects that she should be hearing right now. It was honestly freaking Emily the hell out as she slowly continued to walk through the dark and foggy woods.

The Gilbert girl continued to randomly call out hello's and can-anyone-hear-me's as she tried to catch someone's attention while she aimlessly walked through the woods for quite awhile. Emily knew it had been some time by the fact that she could feel her heels beginning to hurt from the ankle boots that she had on.

"Is anyone home?" The Gilbert girl obnoxiously shouted as she was slowly growing annoyed instead of afraid from the fact that she couldn't find anyone when she knew damn well that there is usually stoners somewhere in the woods at any given point of any day. Hell, Emily would gladly take a hungry vampire at this point. At least she would know that she wasn't going crazy right now.

Emily huffed out a sigh as she carelessly kicked a pine cone that was in her way while she continued to make her way through the woods. "Hello?" The Gilbert girl called out for what felt like the millionth time as she kept her green eyes locked onto the ground as she glanced at all of the different plants that she passed by. At least it's keeping me entertained, Emily thought as she counted all of the different types while she waited to find somehow.

However, after a solid hour of walking aimlessly in the woods, Emily finally caught a break when she suddenly noticed a pair of black sneakers up ahead of her. The Gilbert girl hurriedly looked up, instead of looking at the ground, before Emily instantly smiled when she spotted a familiar pair of brown irises that she had stared into the second that she was born, her twin sister.

"Thank God I found you," Emily huffed out as she sluggishly jogged up to her other half. The Gilbert girl rolled her green eyes in annoyance before she complained to Elena, "I have been stuck in these woods for too long."

Emily took the chance to get a good look at her twin sister after she had finished speaking before a frown immediately pulled onto her face with even more confusion than she had already felt from waking up in the woods. "What's going on?" The Gilbert girl worriedly questioned as she could see tears clouding Elena's brown irises.

Elena slowly shook her head as she briefly closed her eyes to get control of her emotions before she focused her teary gaze onto her twin sister. "I am so sorry, Emmie," the Gilbert vampire quietly apologized as she shakily placed her hand onto the extremely confused human girl's cheek.

Emily instantly became even more confused - if that was even possible - by how her sister was looking at her so softly. "What?" The Gilbert girl inquired as she honestly didn't understand anything right now, "what are you talking about, Lena?" This whole ordeal was just freaky for Emily from the weird and foggy atmosphere in the woods along with the unnatural silence that surrounded her as well.

The Gilbert vampire gave her sister a sad smile as she tenderly gazed into Emily's green eyes as if she was trying to store them into her memory. "We're dead," Elena finally confessed to the Gilbert girl as much as she wished that she didn't have to because she knew it was going to crush her twin.

Emily's green irises immediately widened as she took a step back from her twin sister in absolute shock. "W-What?" The Gilbert girl sputtered out as she looked at Elena with a hint of fear mixed in with all of her confusion. Emily couldn't even begin to fathom those two little words that the brunette vampire had uttered to her. It just didn't make sense.

Instead of answering the Gilbert girl's question, Elena gently grabbed ahold of her sister's hand before she pulled her over to a small and wooden bench. The brunette vampire gave her sister's hand a small squeeze once they were seated before she focused her brown irises onto Emily. "What's the last thing you remember?" Elena finally inquired after a few moments of silence had passed by as she slowly tried to help her sister understand her predicament.

The Gilbert girl was confused as to why Elena was asking her that but she decided to humor her sister, so Emily closed her green eyes as she tried to look back on her memories. Emily couldn't help but get frustrated as she shook her head when she couldn't automatically remember the last thing that she did or said as her mind just felt blank.

It took another three minutes of the Gilbert girl sitting there with her green irises closed and her twin sister squeezing her hand while she uttered assuring words before Emily finally could remember something. "I-I went to say goodbye to Caroline and she surprised me with Tyler," the Gilbert girl recalled as she moved her furrowed gaze over to her twin sister.

Emily pulled her brows together from her own words before she asked herself, "Tyler's back?" The Gilbert girl then nodded her head once she realized that she had seen Tyler before she continued to recall her memories, "yeah... Yeah and he said Mrs. Lockwood was in the hospital, t-then Klaus' witch took them for the sacrifice."

The Gilbert girl shook her head as she released a disheartened sigh before she muttered from what she could remember, "I felt helpless, so I went to get a drink at the Grill and I-I think I texted Stefan to meet me there." Emily nodded her head as she affirmed that it was true before she recalled, "he had something planned for my last day as a human."

"I sat at the bar with Damon and Ric," the Gilbert girl continued to replay her memories as they came back to her, "bourbon, we had bourbon." Emily furrowed her brows while she mumbled, "t-then Klaus walked in with his real body. He told us that he had his wolf and vampire before he threatened Damon to not get involved."

"I told Damon and Ric that Klaus had Care and Tyler after he left," the Gilbert girl remembered, "but Damon promised that he would get them back." Emily briefly shook her head as she muttered, "I told him not do anything stupid because I didn't want anyone else to get hurt - but knowing Damon he probably did do something stupid."

"I-I think I left after that," Emily guessed as she couldn't recall anything more that took place at Mystic Grill. "Stefan and I went on our first real date," the Gilbert girl noted with a dopey but small smile playing on her lips at the memory before she frowned as she recalled another moment, "t-then we went back to the boarding house, where Klaus showed up and he took me. I stayed with his witch for a while then we went to the quarry for the sacrifice."

The Gilbert girl paused for about a minute or so as she tried to connect her thoughts about what she did remember about the sacrifice before Emily hurriedly look over to her twin sister, who had tears in her brown irises, with her own green eyes widened as her memories came to her. "H-He killed you," Emily mumbled with shock and sadness trailing all throughout her voice.

The Gilbert vampire gently nodded her head as warm tears finally began to fall down the sides of her cheeks. "Yeah, I am," Elena affirmed what her sister had thought.

Emily hurriedly shook her head as she just couldn't accept that her sister was actually dead. "Why didn't our friends try to save you?" The Gilbert girl inquired with her brows pulled together in confusion. "Surely they realized that you weren't there with him and I'm positive Jenna would have told someone," Emily commented before she asked with tears freely falling down her own cheeks, "why didn't they try to save you?"

Elena gave her twin a small smile before she uttered, "they did try." The Gilbert vampire gave Emily's hand a small squeeze before she explained, "John tried to trade his life for mine with a spell but it didn't work since I am a vampire. The spell was meant for a human, so when John did it, it killed him in the process."

Elena had felt a little sadness for her biological father when she had heard that John died trying to save her. The Gilbert vampire had found out about her father's passing and the failed spell about an hour after she had arrived here. Elena met the infamous Maria Radkova herself and she had told Elena all about what had happened and where she was.

The Gilbert vampire carelessly shrugged her shoulders as she glanced at the foggy atmosphere around them before she focused her teary gaze back onto her twin. Elena gave the Gilbert girl a sad smile before she murmured, "I'm pretty much stuck here now." Elena released a small sigh before she began to explain, "it's called the other si-"

However, though, before Elena could explain her situation to her twin sister, the Gilbert girl quickly interrupted her as she practically shrieked, "but I need my sister!" Emily shook her head with a panicked look to her green irises before she mumbled, "I-I don't know if I can continue to live knowing you won't be there with me."

The Gilbert girl briefly closed her green eyes as she tried to stop the tears from continuing to flow down her face before a thought suddenly entered her mind. "Wait a second," Emily mumbled as she turned and looked over to her twin sister as she realized something. "If I'm here," Emily began before she inquired, "does that mean I'm dead, too?"

"You have less than 72 hours until you'll be back in your world," a new and strong voice spoke up before the Gilbert vampire even had the opportunity to her answer Emily's question as the new individual slowly headed towards the twins.

Emily hurriedly stood up from the small bench at the sound of an unfamiliar voice as she pulled Elena up with her. Once the Gilbert girl saw that a woman was heading straight towards them, Emily placed her body in front of Elena's - like the protective sister that she was and always would be - before the Gilbert girl asked the strange woman, "who are you?"

Elena, who automatically recognized the woman as Maria Radkova - someone who she had met a few hours ago - grabbed ahold of her sister's hand before she squeezed it in reassurance. "It's okay," the Gilbert vampire began to tell Emily who Maria was before she was interrupted by the aforementioned woman.

"I'm Maria Radkova," the older woman uttered before she gave her predecessor a small smile after she had introduced herself.

The Gilbert girl's green eyes instantly widened when she heard the familiar name come out of the woman's mouth. "H-How are you here?" Emily confusingly questioned from the fact that she was currently looking at the witch from centuries ago and the witch, who's powers were flowing throughout her veins.

"I was essentially a witch when I died back in the fifteenth century even though I didn't have my magic at the time of my death," Maria began to explain how the Gilbert girl was able to see her. Maria glanced around the dark and gloomy atmosphere around them before she continued, "and this is where all of the supernatural beings who die end up. It's called the other side." Maria briefly looked over to the other twin before she stated, "I mentioned it to her sister earlier. It's like a purgatory or limbo for us."

Emily slowly glanced around her foggy surroundings with her brows pulled tightly together as she inquired, "why does this place even exist?" The Gilbert girl focused her green irises back onto Maria before she continued with her questioning as she tried to understand where she was, "why don't supernatural beings get to go to the afterlife once they are dead?"

Maria immediately, however, pushed away the Gilbert girl's questions as she lightly waved her hand. "You don't need to worry about that right now," the former Radkova witch muttered before she added, "you'll learn about that later on." Maria shot the doppelganger a small, assuring smile before she murmured, "you shouldn't waste your time on that when your time is very limited here." Maria lightly patted her chest as she concluded, "that's why I am here."

The Gilbert girl couldn't help but furrow her brows from Maria's words. "And why are you here?" Emily inquired as she was still trying to understand all that was happening around her and why she was seeing a centuries dead witch right now.

"I wanted to take this opportunity to talk to you before you have to go back to your world," the former Radkova witch explained why she was essentially in Mystic Falls, "I wanted to personally go over a few things with you as the last living Radkova witch."

Emily slowly nodded her head in understanding as it made sense along with the fact that she was glad to actually talk to a Radkova witch instead of getting her information handed down to her by a second party. The Gilbert girl glanced back towards at her sister when she felt Elena squeeze her hand with a soft smile before Emily released that heavy sigh that she didn't know that she had been holding in.

Emily had felt so tense since she had arrived on the other side, so it made the brunette girl feel better once her body had finally relaxed from Elena's comforting presence and the fact that after so many months that she would finally get some answers about her being a witch. "Alright," the Gilbert girl muttered as she focused her attention back onto Maria before she inquired, "so, what am I dealing with here?"

Emily lightly shook her head as she informed the former witch, "Elijah didn't really tell me what will happen." The Gilbert girl rolled her green eyes before she added, "besides from scaring me half death with all this talk that I will end turning crazy."

Maria instantly released an airy chuckle as she heard what the noble original had been telling her predecessor. "Elijah may have exaggerated that factor a little bit," Maria stated before she explained, "a high percentage of the humans who are turned into witches this way did lose control with all that power inside of them but your situation is different."

Maria shot the Gilbert girl a soft smile as she murmured, "you were meant to become a witch in every single scenario and in every single universe. The world always has a plan that is supposed to take place and this is one of them. This is your destiny."

"But why?" Emily immediately inquired with her brows pulled together in complete confusion, "why has this always been meant for me?" The Gilbert girl shook her head before she muttered, "I've never even had the want to become a witch before." Emily then rose her right eyebrow at the former witch as she also asked with a bit of humor in her voice, "and destiny, really? Is that an actual thing?"

Emily was never one of those people that believed that destiny existed or certain things happened in life because it was meant to happen. She gave up on that idea when the world took away her parents way before their time, so Emily was definitely suspicious about the fact that the world apparently thought she was born to become a witch.

Maria released a small chuckle as she nodded her head at the skeptical girl. "Yes, it is," Maria affirmed before she stated with complete confidence and honesty shining throughout her rough voice, "there is certain things that have been set in the world and your destiny is one of them."

"And what is my destiny?" The Gilbert girl immediately inquired as she subconsciously released Elena's hand and took a step closer towards the former witch from the fact that she was continuously getting her questions answered - unlike in the past when she would ask anything that had to deal with being a Petrova doppelganger and a Radkova witch.

"If I tell you, it could disrupt something in the future," Maria uttered as she instantly shook her head and denied the Gilbert's girl request. "It could alter the people around you or something that seems so small could end up turning disastrous," Maria explained what would happen if she would tell Emily her destiny before she stated, "you just need to know that when it's time for you to find out your destiny, you will realize that you were always meant for this life as the last Radkova witch."

Emily couldn't help but frown when she realized that she had spoken to soon about how she was getting all the answers that she had ever wanted when the former witch instantly shut down her question. It was honestly so irritating for the Gilbert girl when she would ask questions to Elijah, Katherine, and now Maria about anything that was important to her and they would always hide the answers with some stupid meaning that she couldn't understand.

However, Emily wasn't going to give up like she usually would when she knew this was her only chance with Maria before she would become a witch, so the Gilbert girl pushed away her annoyance as she focused her determined green irises back onto the former witch. "Okay," Emily mumbled, mostly to herself, before she threw her arms in the air and inquired, "is there anything that you can tell me?"

The former Radkova witch smiled softly at the visibly impatient but determined Gilbert girl as she slowly nodded her head. "I can tell you what your new abilities will be like," Maria mentioned something that she knew would make Emily feel better from the fact that she was feeling clueless at the moment with being on the other side and such.

The Gilbert girl's mood instantly brightened as she brought her hands together and exclaimed with a tint of excitement flowing throughout her voice, "now you're talking!" Emily, once again, took a few steps closer to the former witch before she inquired and stated, "could you? Elijah didn't really explain what I would be able to do once I became a witch."

Maria released a small chuckle before she mused, "Elijah was never one to know everything about us Radkova witches." The older woman placed her right hand to the side of her lips before she whispered as she was telling a secret, "us Radkova witches like to keep some things to ourselves to protect our own."

The ancient woman stood back up until her body was standing straight before she mentioned, "I know you already know what a basic witch can do since you are friends with one, but Radkova witches are much more different and powerful." Maria let that thought enter Emily's mind for a moment before she explained, "you will have enhanced hearing like a vampire or a werewolf. You will also be able to heal anyone by just touching them and focusing onto their pain. You will also be able to make portals to travel from one place to another but that is a more difficult spell to learn but it will be possible for you once you grow stronger."

The Gilbert girl silently nodded her head as she tried to absorb this new information as best as she could for someone who was practically a newborn in the witch world. "What about the powers?" Emily inquired after a moment before she commented, "you mentioned that I have more abilities than a regular witch."

"That's correct," Maria murmured as she slowly nodded her head. "You have quite a lot of skills that will build as you grow stronger and the more that you practice," the former witch stated before she began to go over the powers of a Radkova witch, "you will be able to use telekinesis, molecular immobilization - which is the ability to slow someone or something down enough that they will essentially be frozen. You also will have the ability of molecular combustion - which is pretty much self explanatory."

The Gilbert girl couldn't help but to release a huff of breath filled of surprise. "Wow," Emily mumbled as she shook her head in disbelief. "So, I can freeze things and blow them up?" The Gilbert girl asked her witchy mentor as she tried to see if she had actually heard Maria right. Emily honestly didn't know anyone outside of TV shows and movies could have these types of powers.

Maria released a small chuckle as she she nodded her head. "And that's not all, either," the former witch uttered in amusement before she continued to go over the powers that the Gilbert girl would soon have, "you also will have the ability to sense someone or an item by just focusing and you can push memories or thoughts into anyone's mind."

"This one you might appreciate with you being very protective over your loved ones," Maria commented as she had watched the Gilbert girl from the other side for quite some time before she explained, "you can produce orb shields around yourself and anyone close by like a force field - and the stronger you get, the more area you can cover."

"Also, another helpful skill you will have as well is the ability to understand, read, and speak any language without even having to actually learn them," Maria mentioned another one of the Radkova witch's powers. The former witch lightly shrugged her shoulders as she commented, "you would be surprised how handy that skill comes into play during some situations," Maria uttered as she could recall plenty of times during her travels when she would have to speak to witches from different countries and in different languages.

"That will definitely be helpful during my French classes," the Gilbert girl couldn't help but joke as she released a small chuckle while she also tried to soak in all of these skills that she would apparently have now.

Maria shot the last Radkova witch a small smile as she could only imagine how stressed and nervous she was at the moment, so she let Emily make a small joke and relax before she mentioned another skill, "and lastly and one of the most important abilities to Radkova witches is premonitions." Maria paused for a moment for the information to connect through the Gilbert girl's mind before she explained, "Radkova witches rely a lot on this one power as Protectors of the Innocence to be able to save and help people."

Emily silently nodded her head as she listened to the former witch before a thought suddenly popped into her head. "Is that why I always get a bad feeling when I think something is about to go wrong?" The Gilbert girl inquired as she could recall on both of her hands all the times right before something bad would happen and her chest would start hurting.

"That is correct," the former witch affirmed as she nodded her head. Maria shot the Gilbert girl, who she could see was still skeptical about her future as a witch, a soft smile before Maria exclaimed as she tried to encourage Emily through her future endeavors, "see? You weren't even a witch and you already had the properties inside of you. It has always been meant for you."

The Gilbert girl released a heavy sigh that she didn't know that she had been holding in when she felt as Elena moved to stand beside her and gave her hand a light squeeze. "This is just so much to take in," Emily mumbled as she was in shock from all of that Maria had told her in such a short amount of time.

Emily may have looked calm on the outside but her heart was practically beating out of her chest at the moment. All this witch stuff was making her even more anxious than she had already been. Yeah, the Gilbert girl felt better from knowing what she was walking into but the more Maria spoke about all of these abilities that she would have, the more it made Emily nervous that she would fail.

Emily's only goal in life had always been to take care of her twin sister, younger brother, and go to school so now that she was supposed to be this protector for the defenseless and innocent, it was a lot to take in and understand. It was like Emily was walking into Gotham City and was expected to save the day without any training.

"You'll be okay," the confident voice of the Gilbert vampire assured her twin sister, who she could see was mentally struggling with her new purpose in life. Elena gave the brunette girl's hand a tight squeeze as she nodded her head with a soft smile playing on her lips before she added to give her twin the support that she needed right now, "you can do this. I believe in you."

The Gilbert girl released a shaky breath as she looked back at her positive twin sister. Emily deep down in her heart knew that she couldn't agree with Elena at the moment when she wasn't confident in herself as a witch. "I don't know," the Gilbert girl mumbled as she released her sister's hand and took a few steps away from Elena and Maria before she anxiously began to pace in the middle of the woods.

"I am so not cut out for all of that," Emily mumbled, mostly to herself, as she was practically panicking right now while she tried to wrap her mind around her future. "I have no idea what the hell I'm doing," the Gilbert girl exclaimed as she threw her hands up into the air before she continued to mumble, "there must have been a mistake. I can't be the strongest witch ever."

Emily quickly turned around and looked over to the composed former witch with her green irises glazed over with distress and hysteria before she anxiously inquired as she wrung her hands together, "what if I fail? What if I mess up somehow? What if I hurt someone?"

However, before Maria could come up an answer to the newest Radkova witch's anxious-filled interrogation and assure her that she would be okay, the older woman took notice of a bright light behind the Gilbert girl's head. Maria focused her brown irises back onto Emily with a soft smile playing on her lips before she calmly murmured, "it's time for you to wake up."

The Gilbert girl's green irises immediately widened with even more panic than she already felt at the moment when she heard what Maria had told her. "W-Wait! No, no, no!" Emily hurriedly exclaimed as she took a quick step towards the former witch as she shakily waved her hand. "I can't leave yet! You haven't told me everything!" The brunette girl exclaimed once more before she shook her head and voiced her worries, "I can't be the next Protector of the Innocence. I'm not cut out to be a witch. I-I'll just screw it all up."

The former Radkova witch released a small and amused chuckle as she took the few steps that were left between herself and her predecessor before she gently placed her right hand onto Emily's cheek. "You were made to be the strongest witch to walk this Earth, dear," Maria assured the Gilbert girl, "you were born ready."

Maria slowly brought her hand down until it was by her side before she lightly shrugged her shoulders and stated, "besides, you will never truly be alone as a Radkova witch." The former witch placed her hand over her heart as she explained, "read my your grimoire and you will see that there are certain spells that only you can do as a Radkova witch to reach me."

The fact that Maria would only be a spell away was very comforting but it didn't help that Emily was being forced to leave when there was still so much that she wanted to know about being a witch. "But -" Emily began to argue as she felt like that she didn't even learn half of what she needed to know to become a witch.

If the Gilbert girl was being honest, she was afraid. She was afraid that she would hurt someone from all of these different abilities that would soon be running through her veins. Emily was afraid that she was going to fail at protecting people and most importantly, she was afraid that she was going to end up going crazy like the past witches before her.

However, though, before the Gilbert girl could try to convince Maria to let her stay so they could talk more about her witchy powers, the aforementioned woman interrupted her as she shook her head. "No, it is time for you to go back to your world before you end up getting stuck here forever," Maria uttered as she disagreed with Emily's wanting to stay on the other side for longer.

"You need to go live your new life, Emily Gilbert," the former witch softly murmured as she gazed lovingly down at the young girl. "You will succeed. You will be an extraordinaire. You will be an unstoppable force. You are meant for this," Maria calmly told Emily as she tried to convince the Gilbert girl for the last time that this was her future and her destiny.

"And you are a Petrova," a new but familiar sounding voice had uttered from where the former Radkova witch had left off as she slowly approached the three figures. The new voice, who happened to be none other than Darina Petrova, stopped once she standing directly in front of her doppelganger before she directed, "use that fire that you have inside of you and never let anyone ever get in the way of what you want."

Darina briefly paused in her little speech for a moment as she stared at her carbon copy with a soft smile playing on her lips before she told the Gilbert girl as if she was a proud mother at her child's graduation, "you are strong and I am so proud to call you my doppelganger."

Emily honestly felt like she had a stroke and this was her afterlife at the moment as she stuttered out, "h-huh? H-How? W-What?" The Gilbert girl was just in complete disbelief from the fact that she was looking across at the person who she had heard so much about - either it be reading about her or from what Katherine and Elijah had mentioned.

Emily honestly felt starstruck as if she was meeting Nirvana or ATEEZ (Stan ATEEZ, guys). The Gilbert girl had always wondered what her doppelganger would have been like in person but she had never in her wildest dreams thought that she would actually have the opportunity to meet Darina.

The original Petrova doppelganger couldn't help but release an angelic chuckle as she watched the shock on her doppelganger's face. Darina shook her head in amusement as she slowly moved closer towards her carbon copy. Darina placed her hand gently onto the Gilbert girl's cheek once there was only inches separating them before she murmured with a small smile playing on her lips as she figured Emily must have a million questions for her, "we will have another chance to speak in the future, little dove."

Darina nodded her head in the direction behind her doppelganger's right shoulder, where she could see her own sister's doppelganger. The Petrova girl couldn't help but look at Elena Gilbert with a sad expression from not being able to see Katerina in person for centuries before Darina had to mentally shake her head to focus.

The Petrova girl focused her green irises onto Emily before she quietly murmured, "you should say goodbye like i didn't have the chance to." Darina knew her doppelganger must have so much to ask her but she knew what was really important. Darina regretted everyday that she didn't at least tell Katerina that she loved her before she died.

Emily furrowed her brows in confusion as to what her doppelganger was telling her to do before she glanced over to her shoulder and realized that Darina was looking at her twin sister. The Gilbert girl knew exactly what Darina wanted her to do, so she faced her doppelganger before she nodded her head in agreement.

However, before Emily could do that, she needed to know something before she said goodbye. "Will I ever be able to talk to you again?" The Gilbert girl inquired as she didn't want to walk away from her doppelganger if this would be her only chance of ever getting to talk to Darina when she had so many questions.

Darina released a small chuckle as she nodded her head. "You will figure out a way to speak to me if you really need to," the Petrova girl stated as she knew Maria had hinted at the spell to Emily about how she would be able to contact her in the future.

The Gilbert girl released a small sigh of relief that this wouldn't be the last time with her doppelganger before she quietly murmured, "okay." Emily didn't know how she was supposed to say goodbye to someone that she just met but felt so close to, so Emily just awkwardly waved her hand towards her carbon copy before she mumbled, "uh, I guess I'll see you later."

The Petrova girl and the former Radkova witch both chuckled in amusement at the human doppelganger before Darina sweetly murmured as she nodded her head, "you will, little dove."

Emily silently watched as the witch, who's powers were running through her veins, and her doppelganger walked a few feet away for her with an encouraging nod before the Gilbert girl slowly turned around to face her twin sister, who already had tears freely falling down the sides of her face.

"I didn't think I would have to say goodbye to you twice," the Gilbert vampire practically sobbed as she watched as Emily slowly walked to stand in front of her.

Emily released a small but teary chuckle as she lifted up her hands and wiped the wetness away from her sister's brown irises and her cheeks. "Me too," the Gilbert girl mumbled in agreement before she rested her right palm onto Elena's shoulder and added as to make the horrible situation better, "but at least I can hug and feel you this time."

Elena honestly couldn't stop the water works any longer as she released a loud sob before she swiftly pulled her twin sister strongly into her arms - unlike the last time they were in this position. "I love you so, so much," the Gilbert vampire sobbed into her sister's neck as she knew this was seriously her last moment with Emily.

"I know you are going to be great, Emmie," the Gilbert vampire murmured into her sister's chest before she slowly pulled back. Elena looked into her twin's green irises with a watery smile before she continued to comfort Emily like she knew that she needed right now, "you are going to be the best witch ever."

The Gilbert girl released a small chuckle as she could feel the warm tears carelessly falling down her face. "I hope so," Emily murmured as she still didn't feel confident in herself and her witch status before she told her sister, "I hope I can do you proud." That was one of the things that Emily was afraid of. She was afraid that she would disappoint Elena when she had always been her sister's hero since they were born.

Elena placed her right hand lightly onto her twin sister's cheek with a brighter smile that she hadn't used since before the sacrifice as she softly assured Emily, "you already have."

The future Radkova witch shook her head in disbelief as she stared across at her twin sister with tears in her green irises. "God, I'm gonna miss you so much," Emily mumbled as she expressed rambled her feelings for her other half while tears freely fell from her eyes, "I don't know how I'm supposed to go on without you." The Gilbert girl released an emotionless scoff before she continued, "I mean, I've never even gone an hour without seeing you and now I'm supposed to go the rest of my life without my sister. I-I don't know how I'm supposed to function without you in my life."

The Gilbert vampire heart absolutely broke - even though she was already dead - from her twin sister's words. It pained Elena so much to see Emily like this for the second time. "I will always be right here with you," Elena tried to make her twin sister feel better as she gently placed her hand over Emily's heart. "We are in this forever, you know that," the Gilbert vampire added as her own tears fell from her brown irises.

The Gilbert girl couldn't help but release a loud sob from her sister's words. Emily felt so helpless that she couldn't bring her sister with her to their world. It hurt her heart to even think about leaving Elena alone here but she knew she didn't have a choice right now. "I will bring you back," Emily suddenly exclaimed - despite the fact that she hadn't been confident in her witch self only a second ago.

Emily was never one to fold over, ever, so even though she didn't think that she would make it out as a witch, she was going to do everything in her power to bring her twin sister back. The Gilbert girl knew it might take awhile for it to happen but she was never going to give up on her other half.

"And I'm gonna hold you to it," the Gilbert vampire murmured as she stared across at Emily with a soft smile playing on her lips. Elena didn't doubt it for a second that her twin sister would be able to bring her back. She had accepted her fate on the other side but she also knew Emily and she knew her sister would stop at nothing when her mind was set on something.

However, Elena knew and understood that she might be stuck here on the other side for awhile, so she only had one request for her sister. "Take care of Damon for me," the Gilbert vampire murmured as she thought about her boyfriend. Elena knew Damon was going to struggle for awhile, so she just wanted someone to be there for him instead of Damon turning off his emotions.

Emily instantly nodded her head in agreement, "I will." The Gilbert girl knew Damon was going to be in the same boat as she would once she got back to her world, so it was a no brainer for Emily to help the older Salvatore through this difficult time in their lives with the death of their other half. "And I promise you I will get you out of here," Emily, once again, told her twin sister as a reminder that she would never forget her and that she would bring her back.

"I know you will," the Gilbert vampire murmured with a soft smile playing on her lips. "You're not only Emily Gilbert, the protector of her family and friends, but you are also the last Radkova witch, the strongest one at that," Elena reminded her twin sister before she exclaimed, "everyone should fear you. You will be so unstoppable that Klaus won't know what hit him." The Gilbert vampire playfully bumped her point finger under Emily's chin as she murmured, "raise hell, Emmie."

The Gilbert girl couldn't help the wide smile that lifted onto her face as she told her twin, "you know it." Emily just felt more confident with how much Elena was trusting her and believing in her. "I will make him regret he was ever born," the new Radkova witch muttered as she thought about Klaus before she promised her twin, "I won't disappoint you."

Elena shook her head with a sad smile on her face from the fact that the human girl thought that she could ever do that. "You could never disappoint me, Emmie," the Gilbert vampire told her twin sister as she pulled her into a tight hug. "I will always be proud of you, no matter what," Elena expressed her feelings inside of the loving embrace, "you are the best sister and friend I could ever ask for."

The Gilbert vampire slowly pulled her body away from Emily's familiar embrace before she placed her hands onto her sister's shoulders with a small smile playing on her lips. "You have always been my hero, Emmie, but now it's time for you to be everyone else's," Elena murmured before she gave her sister's shoulders a light squeeze and ordered while tears slowly poured down her cheeks, "now go. It's time for you to shine and show everyone what you are made of."

The Gilbert girl tried to wipe all of the warms tears that continued to pour from her green irises as she released a small chuckle. "You should be a motivational speaker," Emily couldn't help but joke as she stared across at her twin sister. Elena was never one to be the positive one between them, so Emily had to poke fun of her sister for it.

Elena playfully rolled her brown eyes as she stared at her smiling twin. "Yeah, totally," the Gilbert vampire sarcastically agreed before she herself joked around, "I'll start with all of the angry vampires here on the other side."

Emily shook her head in amusement while she gazed at her twin sister with nothing but adoration shining throughout her green irises. "I love you so, so much," the Gilbert girl murmured before she leaned up onto her tippy toes and places a small kiss onto Elena's forehead. "I'll be back for you, I promise," Emily whispered against her twin sister's cold skin.

"I know you will," Elena murmured as she absorbed as much of Emily's presence as she could before she slowly pulled away and gazed into her sister's green irises with tears clouding her brown ones. "Now go, Emmie," the Gilbert vampire ordered as she nodded her head towards the light that was waiting for her sister before she added with a small chuckle, "stop stalling."

Emily playfully and innocently rose her hands up in the air before the Gilbert twins shared possibly their last laugh together. The moment between the two sisters lasted for about a solid three minutes before a calm silence settled between them. Emily looked at her twin with the softest look that she had ever used as she forced her legs to move to take a step back or she knew that she would never end up leaving her other half.

Emily kept her glazed green irises locked onto Elena's brown ones as she slowly stepped back towards the light that would take her back to her world where she would be a witch. The last thing the Gilbert girl could recall as her whole body and mind was overtaken by the light was her twin sister telling her, "I believe in you."

I hope I can make you proud, Lena.
