You found yourself standing alone while you stared at night sky. Even thought it sounded dramatic you had to let hongjoong go. You knew you couldn't make him wait for you to return his feelings, not when you knew how much heartbreak that could cause.
You sighed as you smiled softly, you knew hongjoong would be alright. He was truly an amazing person and one day he would find someone who could love him like he deserved, not someone who's heart already belonged to someone else.
"yeah, someone who isn't even here. Why are you waiting here again" you spoke aloud scolding yourself knowing the person you had feelings for, the person you were always waiting for would never come. Seonghwa...he would never be able to return your feelings no matter how much you waited.
Suddenly you thought back to why you had stopped in front of the tree with the bright lights in the first place.
"hey y/n...the lights, you want to see them together when they turn them on"
"sure hwa, I would really like that. I'll wait for you then"
You had got so emotional seeing them as you walked by with hongjoong. You had stopped without thinking and now here you were, waiting again. You knew no matter what your heart seemed to always lead you back to seonghwa and you couldn't help but sigh again as you stared at the bright lights
"you're always waiting y/n" you whispered to yourself as a sad smile formed on your face but soon the smile was replaced with shock as you heard the familiar voice call your name
"y/n"
You immediately looked away from the trees, their bright light soon forgotten as you stared at seonghwa. You knew you were technically waiting for him but you had never expected to see him.
You still stared at seonghwa surprised to see him but as he took a few steps forwards you could see his watery eyes and the hurt expression on his face.
"h-hwa" you said softly not understanding why he looked so heartbroken, but then you just remembered your own words
"I know you're hurting hwa, I know this is breaking you but just know I'm here. Just know that I will always be waiting for you with open arms if you need me"
You meant every word that day, so even thought you were confused your gently opened your arms and his eyes widened as more tears fell down his face and he quickly hugged you.
His arms were wrapped tightly around your waist while he leaned down and buried his face in your shoulder
"always waiting" he spoke out softly while you gently wrapped your arms around his neck in comfort not really understanding why seonghwa was so upset
"I'm an idiot, a terrible person. You've always been waiting for me. You've always been waiting all alone even as your heart was hurting, even now in the cold while it snows...you've always waited for me to return your feelings" seonghwa croaked out while you froze, you heart raced as you realized seonghwa had somehow found out about how you felt. You quickly pulled away from the hug but seonghwa kept his arms around your waist holding you in place when all you wanted to do was run.
All you could think about was how you friendship would change, how this would affect everything, but soon your panicking was interrupted when seonghwa spoke again
"you were always waiting and I never deserved it. I'm sorry I kept you waiting for so long, but I'm here now y/n, you don't have to wait anymore" your heart stopped and suddenly you felt your own tears well up in your eyes while your voice cracked
"w-what" was all you managed to choke out while you tried to hold in your tears and process what seonghwa was saying
"I mean it, you don't have to wait anymore y/n. I'm sorry I made you wait this long" his one arm moved from your waist while the other still held you in place. His free arm moved up and then his hand went to your face and gently wiped away the tears now falling from your eyes.
His hand rested against your cheek while he continued the wipe away the tears falling from your eyes and they seemed endless as you heard him say "I love you y/n and I'm sorry you had to wait this long to hear me say it"
"y-you idiot" you sobbed out not containing your own emotions as you felt like your heart was going to burst
"w-what about yeonsoo, y-your perfect ideal girl" you said while you continued sobbing and seonghwa's tears seemed to have dried as he gently spoke
"she may have been 'perfect' yes...but not to me, we broke up because I could only think about you. You are the perfect girl for me y/n, and I wholeheartedly love you and I'm truly sorry it took me so much time to figure that out"
You sniffled as you wiped your tears trying not to look like a mess while seonghwa chuckled "are you going to say it back...or do I have to wait" he teased while you glared up at him with teary eyes
"I love you too hwa" then seonghwa smiled and instantly he pulled you in and kissed you. You were surprised at first but soon you melted into the kiss. His arm wrapped around you tightly as he slowly pulled away from the kiss and your face was bright red
"you're blushing, so cute" you then glared up at seonghwa "you are too" you pointed out seeing his red face as well and you giggled as he looked away in embarrassment
Then his arms wrapped tighter around your waist as he pulled you closer and he spoke "I'll make sure you never have to wait again y/n, I'll say it as many times as I have to. I love you" you smiled as you looked up at seonghwa and you spoke
"I love you too"

Your feet slammed against the ground as you ran down the street. You had just ended work and you had told seonghwa you would be back for your anniversary a half hour ago, but the bus was in traffic.
When you arrived at your apartment building you were confused when you saw some people standing outside, well more specifically a few of your friends
"hongjoong, san, yeosang, and mingi. What are you guys doing here" you asked and hongjoong lifted the familiar jacket in his hands "seonghwa said I could come over to get this" your eyes widened seeing the old jacket, you almost forgot about it
"it been a while since I was ready to get it" hongjoong smiled at you brightly and you were about to question what 'ready to get it' meant but soon you heard a scream "y/n" you looked back to see jongho, yunho, and wooyoung running down the street towards you
You looked at them questionably as you clutched your jacket tighter to provide more warmth as the snow fell from the dark night sky
"it's seonghwa, he needs you" your heart hammered as you followed your group of friends down the street thinking about how seonghwa could be injured.
After a few moments and a lot of concern you were surprised to be seonghwa standing perfectly fine by the park entrance near your apartment
"HWA, you scared me" you grumbled out while seonghwa turned to you
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you. I just wanted to see the lights with you" seonghwa said while you looked up at the familiar lights
"this is where I first confessed to you, and even after only two years I know it was the best decision I ever made. I want to be with you every second of everyday. I want to spend the rest of my life with you y/n, will you...will you marry me" your eyes widened as seonghwa pulled out the small box from his pocket and you already knew your answer as your eyes watered
"yes" you spoke out and seonghwa smiled brightly as he opened the small box. You watched as he placed the sparkling piece of jewelry on your finger as you heard your friends cheering. He wrapped his arms around you still smiling brightly as he leaned in and then he kissed you.
You two soon pulled away from the kiss and you noticed seonghwa's slightly blushed nose. You realized he must have been waiting in the cold for you since your bus was late
"I'm sorry, you must have been waiting for me hwa" you said
"it's alright, you were always waiting for me and I would wait forever just to be with you. I love you y/n" seonghwa smiled and you knew you felt the same.
Even if you would both wait for each other forever, you knew then that you would never have to wait because the person you loved...he loved you back, there was no more waiting. You smiled brightly while you spoke
"I love you too hwa"
