The gun in my hands made my body tremble with fear. Or was it? Maybe it was anger and sadness. Maybe it was because my powers were rising, surging through my body as they came forward-breaking through my shell my body had put around them for so long. This was who I was.
I am Hailey.
~~~
"Hailey!" Hesh hissed next to me. "Pay attention!"
Narrowing my eyes, I looked forwards to where Logan layed on the ground, almost looking dead. Blood seemed to be his new skin color on his face. Bruises were painted on him all over the place. My powers flared when I still saw the knife sticking out of Logan's shoulder.
"Keegan, are you in position?" Hesh whispered.
"Yes," Keegan's voice came in through the radio. "I have eyes on five enemy targets guarding Logan."
"Only five?" I hissed and Hesh glanced at me. "This doesn't sound like Rorke."
"I have your back," Keegan whispered. "Get in, get Logan, get out!"
"I'll place C4 around while you make your way to Logan, Hailey," Hesh murmured. "Got it?"
"Yes," I hissed, my powers still flaring.
"Finger off the trigger," Keegan hissed to me personally in the radio. "I understand your powers are flaring at seeing Logan, but you have to be smart about this. When you kill those guards, don't shoot your weapon."
"Stop commanding your Commander!" I practically snarled and then started off towards my route to Logan.
Sliding my gun behind my hip, I twirled my black knife in my hand. Narrowing my eyes, I crouched in the shadows. The Federation man in front of me said something into his radio. Before he could finish, I covered his mouth, brought him to the ground, and then sliced his neck.
This is who I am.
Why that voice came back inside my head, I didn't know. I only felt like I had to obey it. I had to obey who I was right now. Was that voice telling me to always be this person who's power was forever flaming? Maybe I wasn't even human at all. But if I wasn't human, then what was I?
"Logan!" I practically cried.
"Ha.....ey," Logan coughed out blood when he tried to talk.
"Shh," I whispered, putting my gloved finger to his mouth. "I'm here, you're safe."
Your powers.
Was this voice my mother or something? It sounded so familiar.
"What?" I whispered.
Use your powers to help him.
"Ha...ey....h..el..p......me," Logan whispered.
Rolling him over so that he was on his back, I clutched Logan's hand in both of mine. Clenching my teeth and shutting my eyes tight, I pushed for my powers to go into him.
"Please, please, please work!" I said in my head.
When I opened my eyes, I slouched down. Logan was still the same. Why the hell weren't my powers working?
"Logan!" I cried out when he coughed and stopped breathing.
A laugh in the corner made me narrow my eyes and bare my teeth.
"Oh Hailey, don't you see? I killed him on the inside. Now it's your turn."
Turning in one quick motion, I grabbed my knife, charged at Rorke, and pinned him against the wall. That all had to be in two seconds. My eyes, now red, were narrowed and staring into Rorke's eyes.
"What the hell did you do to him?" I snarled.
Rorke only tilted his head and then smiled. "You're so pretty, Hailey. I don't understand why you fell for a Ghost. Why don't we take off all that paint?"
"Shut the fuck up Rorke!" I elbowed his collar bone and suddenly Rorke screamed in pain.
Feeling something enter me through my gut, I widened my eyes. Before I knew it, I was flung back across the room and slammed into glass. Touching my head, I felt blood running down the side of my face.
"You fucking bitch!" Rorke was holding his shoulder.
Standing up-and ignoring the dizziness- I charged at Rorke. I brought my knife to his neck again. Rorke only smirked as I ran him into two giant glass windows. I released him and screamed in pain when he pressed his hand to my stomach. I was launched back and slammed down onto the broken glass. Clenching my teeth, I looked at my ripped gloves. Glass stuck out from any open spot. Flicking all the ones I could out, I dizzily looked up to see Rorke walking towards Logan.
"L-Logan!" I shouted and got up from my hands and knees to my feet.
Charging at Rorke as fast as wind itself, I tackled him to the ground. Rorke rolled me over and then I rolled him over.
"Leave him alone!" I snarled and went to stab my knife into him, but I felt the tingling again.
When I slammed back into another wall, I gasped in pain. My head was ringing and my vision was extremely blurry. My hands still had glass in them and bled from it. Through my vision, I could see Rorke picking up my knife and limping towards Logan again.
"No!" I murmured and raised my hand from where I was lying on the ground bleeding.
Finally, I sighed in relief as I felt the light blue-almost clear-power came out of my hand and into Logan's slightly open mouth. Using my other hand, I stood up- slowly and painfully. Raising my other hand, I felt the angry and upset side of me surge through my hand. A red-almost clear-power came out of my hand and hit Rorke.
"Hey! R-Rorke!" I yelled and Rorke turned towards me when I hit him with my power.
As he turned, I felt something go through me again and I was slammed against the wall. My power drew back into me and I was stuck without my attack powers. Rorke, stalked up to me and the tension released as he grabbed my neck in his hand. Lifting me up against the wall and off the ground, Rorke glared up at me. I grabbed his hand with mine and tried to pry his hand, but it was no use.
"You are a fucking stupid girl!" Rorke snarled. "You have no idea how to use these powers, so I shall take the rest of my property out of you!"
My eyes widened and I suddenly tilted my head back and screamed. Once my mouth opened, Rorke took advantage of that and sucked in. A beautifully bright colored light began coming out of my mouth and going into his. I screamed and soon closed my eyes from all the pain rushing through my body.
~~~
Logan's POV:
I could hear her screams.
I could feel her pain.
I could feel Hailey.
My heart. It seemed to turn into something. Turn into something much, much more.
I felt my body jerk violently and snap all the broken bones back in place. I felt my muscles becoming even stronger, my eyes becoming sharper, my thinking becoming quicker. I felt something like a shield wrap me in it's arms and then squeeze me close.
I felt powerful.
Gasping, I jerked upwards as I came conscious. Narrowing my bright blue eyes, I felt a loud growl come from my throat.
"Rorke!"
Hailey's screaming continued.
Getting on my feet, I reached for the knife still stuck in my shoulder. As I breathed with anger, my shoulders shook up and down. Yanking the knife out of my shoulder, I felt it heal automatically. So I knew what my strongest power was now....self heal.
"Rorke, you and I both know she's not the important one!" I yelled and Rorke stopped taking power from Hailey to face me.
"Logan!" Rorke almost sounded...like an animal.
"Fight me," I narrowed my eyes and put a shield around Hailey's weak and practically dead body as she fell to the ground with a thud.
Rorke charged at me and turned so that he started running past me. Lifting the knife up, I stabbed Rorke's spine and then kicked him out the window. I could only hear Rorke's yelling getting fainter as he fell down the mountain.
"Fuck you," I muttered as I looked down at his shape getting fainter and fainter.
"Lo..gan," Hailey coughed.
Turning around quickly, I saw her reaching out to me with a bloody hand. Running to her, I slid through the glass and wrapped her up in my arms. Holding her head, I looked down at her with sadness.
"You have....power," Hailey weakly touched her hand to my heart.
"You need it," I whispered, a tear falling down my face.
"My power is in Rorke," Hailey closed her eyes.
This was it. Hailey was going to die. And when she did, I knew this war was over. I couldn't do shit if she wasn't with me.
"Is it this power?" a voice quietly called out.
Turning my upper body so that Hailey and I could both see, I felt Hailey's spirits brighten.
"Keegan! Hesh!" Hailey sounded stronger.
In his hands, Keegan held a ball. He tried to put it in his other hand, but the light only stayed where it was. "I think it attached to me, Hails."
Keegan walked over to us and sat on his knees, the glass making a crunching sound beneath him. Holding Hailey's head, Keegan gazed down at her happily.
"Thank you," she put her hand on the ball and watched as it disappeared.

Hailey's POV:
Sitting on the edge of the ambulance, I watched as Hesh wrapped his arm around Logan's shoulders and smiled. Tilting my head, I smiled and watched them.
"Are you okay?" Keegan made me jump.
Looking to the left of me, I saw him leaning against the edge of the ambulance.
"What?"
"I mean, I saw everything. Hesh and I were fighting so hard to get in there. When Logan pushed Rorke out of the window, your powers floated straight towards me. I'm just wondering if you're okay," Keegan explained quickly as if he didn't want to remember any of it.
When Keegan sat down next to me slowly, I sighed and leaned my head on his shoulder. "My head's a little sore, but I think I'm just fine now."
Keegan wrapped his arm around me and kissed my cheek gently. "Do you think Rorke is dead?"
I watched as Logan and Hesh shoved each other playfully. "No."
"What?" Keegan hissed. "How?"
"Rorke has my powers somehow. I think he took some of my blood when I was with him almost a year ago. He's not dead."
As if hearing me from far away, Logan looked up to meet my eyes. His look was flaming with his powers.
"We have to finish him off!" he said.
"We don't have to," I murmured.
"Why?" Logan and Hesh were next to us now.
"Because he's already on his way," I whispered.
And, miles away in the big cities, I could hear the bombs going off. London, Chicago, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Paris, and any other big city you could think of. But they weren't bombs of the Federation...they were bombs of something else. Something much, much bigger.
This was the war.
This had been Rorke's plan along.
And now we had to stop it.
