avoidant personality disorder
(avpd) in a group of conditions called anxious personality disorders; marked by feelings of nervousness and/or fear.
people with avpd have poor self-esteem. they also have an intense fear of rejection and being negatively judged by others.
these feelings make them very uncomfortable in social situations, leading them to avoid group activities and contact with others.
people with avpd are also characterized with feelings extreme social inhibition.
when in social situations, a person with avoidant personality disorder may be afraid to speak up for fear of saying the wrong thing, blushing, stammering, or getting embarrassed.
people with avpd spend a great deal of time anxiously studying those around them for signs of approval or rejection.
