I went out with Ronnie as soon as my dad had left to go visit his parents on Friday evening.

Practically a few minutes after my dad had pulled out of the driveway, waving me goodbye for what seemed like the hundredth time, Ronnie was pulling into my street and parking outside of my house, urging me to come out with him.

I was relieved when the whole night passed without him trying anything stupid—we had a small argument when he got to the point of being extremely drunk and decided to yell at me for apparently wearing too much eye makeup, but considering we were around other people, I just brushed him off and ignored him.

By one AM, I decided to leave the party, and Ronnie was too out of it to notice. Saying goodbye to the half-decent people I’d spent the night with, I began to drunkenly make my way home on foot as always. For once, I felt okay with walking home on my own. It’d been a pretty good night and the alcohol was bringing out Happy Midge tonight, so I stuck my headphones in and listened to some music, texting away on my phone as I walked.

It appeared to be quite a calm night with barely anyone about, which was surprising for a Friday night, but it made my mood even better. The music also seemed to make the journey go by quicker, as I when I properly zoned back in and became more aware of my surroundings, I realised I was walking along the promenade and staring at out over the beach.

What actually snapped me out of my happy drunken thoughts was the fact that over the loud music playing through my headphones, I was pretty sure I could just about hear the sound of running footsteps. I yanked my headphones out, immediately making the sound become louder, but before I could turn round to figure out who it was, somebody grabbed my arm and spun me around.

My eyes were immediately met by Zacky’s green ones, and the corners of his mouth lifted into a grin.

“Hey, Tiny!” He enthusiastically greeted me, lifting me up.

It was at that point that I immediately knew he was as drunk as me, but it didn’t matter because he seemed as happy as me, too.

“Whoa, hey!” I blinked, a laugh escaping my lips. “Where have you been?”

“A bar.” He replied, placing me back down on the ground and smiling.

I also smiled. “Nice.”

“And where have you been?” He then tapped my nose, causing my smile to widen.

“A party. I uh...I was just heading home but I realised I left my key at home.” I shrugged. “Typical Midge.”

“Well then, let’s go for a swim!”

With a grin, he began to pull me towards the steps that went down to the beach. I couldn’t help but laugh at his enthusiasm, and it was about time that I got this swim with him that he’d promised me.

As soon as we were on the sand, he ran past me, ripping his shirt off and throwing it to the ground. Considering I was so drunk, I let out a laugh and proceeded to do the same, not giving any thought to the fact that I was walking into the sea in just my bra and a pair of shorts in front of the guy that was supposed to be like an uncle to me.

He immediately swam over to me, stopping in front of me, and I sent him a nervous smile.

“So...” He attractively murmured, taking my arms gently and pulling me closer against him.

So...” I repeated, raising my eyebrows.

“You’re pretty.”

“And you’re drunk.” I kept my eyebrows raised. “Who’d you go to the bar with?”

“Me, myself and...wait for it...” He slurred, “I.”

I couldn’t help but tip my head back and let out a hysterical laugh. I’d seen Zacky drunk plenty of times, but never this happy. It was nice to see, as well as amusing.

My laughter was short-lived though, when he gently pinched my chin between his thumb and forefinger and tipped my head forward again to look at him. At that, I raised an eyebrow, but he just looked at me with adorable puppy dog eyes.

“What?” I questioned, chuckling.

He simply shrugged, at which my laughter continued. I guess the alcohol was the reason for all my laughing, though it was once again short-lived when he tugged on my arm and made me float on my back, while he did the same beside me.

We floated in silence for what seemed like ages, staring up at the night sky. It was nice, because the water was a warm temperature and I felt truly comfortable around Zacky. There was barely any sound, apart from the calm trickle of the water, but the silence around that was soothing.

Soon growing the want to do something other than float on my back, I dipped under the water, allowing my whole body to go under. I soon felt Zacky join me, and he took hold of my hands. Of course, it was only so long that we could hold our breaths, and we soon bobbed back up again.

I raised my arms to run my hands through my hair, though he gently grabbed hold of my wrists, just holding onto them and staring at me.

“Is my makeup smudged?” I questioned, blinking.

He chuckled, shaking his head. “Nope.”

Feeling relieved at that, I began to look around the place to avoid his gaze. It wasn’t long before my eyes landed on the cave that I’d spent a whole day drinking in the other day, and suddenly felt the want to go back inside it.

Without saying anything, I slowly pulled myself out of Zacky’s grasp and began to walk out of the water, grabbing my shirt from the sand but not pulling it back on.

Zacky quickly followed, ignoring his shirt on the sand and quickly catching up with me.

“Where are we going?” He asked interestedly.

“To that cave.” I nodded towards it, quickening my pace slightly.

“Can I also look?” He smiled.

“I’m not stopping you.” I giggled, stepping into the cave and being met with a sense wonderment now that I was seeing it at night. “Whoa...”

There was a gap right in the roof of the cave, wide enough for the moonlight to shine through, which lit it up enough for us to see each other. It was literally amazing.

“It’s pretty dark in here...” Zacky stated, also staring around as he stepped further in.

“I like the dark...” I murmured, my eyes fixed on the moonlight shining through the gap.

“Me too.” He chuckled attractively.

With a smile, I leant against the wall of the cave, still staring up at the roof. I could feel Zacky edging closer to me, but I didn’t meet his gaze. I was too mesmerized by the moon.

Until he kissed me.

It was so sudden and passionate that I could do nothing but stand and blink. He deepened the kiss immediately, and while I was too shocked to do anything, he raised a hand and gently stroked my cheek.

When I realised he wasn’t planning on pulling away any time soon, I pushed away my morals and the fact that he was supposed to be uncle, and began to kiss him back. At that, I felt him smile into the kiss, and I ran a hand through his hair while he deepened it even more, making it become even more passionate. Growing more comfortable, I pulled him closer against me and wrapped my arms around his neck.

It was then that I felt him raise a hand to my back and begin to play with the clasp of my bra. I knew the both of us were overstepping boundaries just by swimming together in our underwear, but it felt right. Being with him like this felt good. And that was why I didn’t stop him.

While he continued to play with the clasp, he parted his lips from mine to trail kisses down my jaw line. Immediately, I sharply inhaled, digging my nails into his shoulder. The teasing didn’t stop there, as he went down a little further and forcefully kissed my neck, and I breathed in even sharper than before. He chuckled against my neck and I couldn’t help but chuckle along, simply elated that this was happening.

He returned my lips, kissing me deeply again, and I immediately reciprocated. As he gently ran a hand through my hair, I placed my hands either side of his head, allowing the kiss to become more heated.

But that was when he abruptly pulled away.

I blinked, completely unsure of what I was to say or do.

At first, he smiled a little awkwardly. I couldn’t even bring myself to meet his stare, but his gaze stayed pinned on me. It was silent for a moment, but there was only so much I could take of it. I soon had to speak up.

“What?” I whispered, now disappointed that it had ended.

“Nothing.” He immediately said, a little harshly.

With a nod, I sat on the floor of the cave, grabbing my shirt and pulling it onto me. He sighed deeply, and I knew at that moment that he completely regretted what had just happened.

I tried to ignore his obvious disgust with himself, but it was as if he was trying to shove it in my face, as he sighed again, this time a lot louder.

“What is it?” I stupidly questioned, already knowing the answer.

He shifted a little. “You’re my best friend’s kid...”

It was my turn to sigh then, and he grew visibly angry. I wasn’t sure if his anger was directed at me or himself, but it caused him to let out some sort of frustrated growl and punch the wall of the cave, causing me to jump ever so slightly.

“What am I doing?!” He exclaimed, shaking off the pain from his knuckle and beginning to pace.

“Don’t ask me...” I murmured, my voice coming out all raspy as I shrugged. “I didn’t make you do it.”

He began to tug at his hair then. “Fuck!”

I tried my hardest to ignore him. To ignore the feeling that was coursing through me right now—the feeling of disappointment and hurt. Whether he was drunk or not, he could control himself many times before. Why did he have to do that to me if he was just planning on getting mad about it moments after?

I watched him pace the ground, staring into space as he angrily muttered to himself about how stupid he was. About how he didn’t understand how he could’ve been so careless and ridiculously betray his best friend by kissing his eighteen year old daughter. All it did was make me more and more upset, and I knew if I didn’t yell at him, I’d end up bursting into tears instead.

“Look, I’ll save you the guilt, alright?!” I angrily yelled, jumping up and immediately gaining his attention. “If I’m such a problem to you, stop hanging around me all the time!”

“I—‘’

“No more phone calls!” I interrupted him. “No more getting me out of trouble, no more deep talks, or...holding hands! Charles and Linds don’t do that with you and I shouldn’t either. You’re latching onto me because of what happened between you and Gena, and I...I’m doing the same because of all the shit that’s happened in my life recently. But it’s got to stop now.”

I didn’t mean a word of it. I didn’t want any of that to stop. I loved how close Zacky and I were. But obviously, he didn’t.

He immediately nodded. “I should go.”

And to save myself from crying, I shook my head. “No. You’re fine. We’ll just keep our distance and forget this even happened.”

And without another glance his way, I walked out of the cave, only letting myself break down into tears when I was too far away for him to hear.

All I knew was that I was that to save myself from any more embarrassment or hurt, I wasn’t going to go anywhere near him.

No matter how hard it would be.
