Josh
“Are you going to ask Mandi to be your girlfriend today,” I asked Dillon as we
drove to school the next day.
“I don’t know,” he answered with a sigh.
“Just ask her,” I told him, “you two belong together.”
“Okay, I think I’m going to take her out to lunch and ask her,” he said.
“That sounds like a good plan,” I said as we arrived at school.
Mandi and AnaBella were waiting for us when we got there.
“Hey guys,” AnaBella said as we got of the car.
“Hey beautiful,” I told her giving her a hug and a kiss on the lips.
“Get a room you two,” Mandi laughed.
“Just you be quiet,” Dillon laughed, “you just might hurt our poor friends’
feelings.”
Dillon gave Mandi a hug and a kiss on the forehead before the four of us stared
walking towards the school building.
“How are you feeling, Mandi,” I asked her.
“I feel okay,” Mandi answered. “I don’t really want to be here right now, though.”
“Oh, just suffer through it for a couple of hours and then you get to leave fore at
least an hour,” AnaBella told her.
“Why do you get to leave,” Dillon asked Mandi.
“Doctors appointment,” she answered. “I have to come back right after I’m done
at it.”
“Will you be here for lunch,” Dillon asked.
“Yeah, should be,” she said, “why?”
“Do you want to go out to lunch with me?”
“Yeah, that’d be perfect,” she smiled.
“All right, AnaBella and are gonna go on a short walk and leave you two to talk,”
I said. Dillon looked confused for a minute before he started understanding.
“Okay, we’ll meet up later,” he said, “see ya.”
“Bye,” AnaBella and I said simultaneously.
At that, we separated and went opposite directions.

“What do we need to talk about,” Mandi asked me confusedly.
“Well, I was actually planning on asking you at lunch, but Josh obviously wants
me to ask now,” I laughed nervously.
“Ask me what,” she asked.
“Mandi,” I said, “would you like to be my girlfriend?”
“You’re asking me to be your girlfriend?”
“Yes,” I said nervously.
“I don’t know what to say,” she said covering her face with her hands.
“I know that I didn’t do anything fancy when I should have, but I really like you
and I want to make us official,” I said. I was more than just beyond nervous.
“I’m not saying that I don’t want to be your girlfriend, I just need time to think
about it,” Mandi said. “I’ll tell you at lunch, okay?”
“Okay,” I agreed, “let’s get you to class.”
I walked her to her first class, gave her another hug and a kiss on her forehead,
and then walked myself to my first hour.
“What did she say,” Josh asked as I sat down next to him.
“She’ll think about it,” I muttered under my breath.
“Well, that doesn’t mean no so cheer up,” he told me.
“I can’t “cheer up”, Josh,” I said. “Her saying that she’ll think about it doesn’t
exactly mean that she’s going to say yes.”
“Calm down,” he replied, “everything will turn out perfectly okay in the end.”
“Yeah, whatever,” I mumbled before the teacher started welcoming us back to
school.
Ugh, I thought, it was going to be a long four class periods.
Mandi
I kept finding it hard to stay awake while Mr. Davis taught us math and
welcomed us to class during second hour. AnaBella kept having to nudge my
arm to get me to stay awake.
Finally, the bell rang and we were free to go.
I took my phone out as I got a message from my mom, it read:
Come out to the front -Mom
“Hey, my mom’s out front waiting for me,” I told AnaBella. “I should be back
sometime during third hour.”
“Okay, bye,” she said giving me a hug before I left to go outside.
My mom and I had talked this morning about what happened last night. We had
come to an agreement that we did have to sit down and talk about some things.
Although, she promised that we could just stay home to talk instead of going out
to eat.
“Hey,” she said as I got into the car, “how’s school been so far?”
“Boring and tiring,” I answered buckling my seatbelt.
“Really,” she asked. “It’s boring and tiring?”
“Very,” I said. “All I want to do is go back home and go to bed.”
“I bet,” she said. “Don’t worry, though, the end of the day will be here before
you know it.”
“Sure,” I replied. “Oh, you’re going to have to call and excuse me because I
totally forgot to go to the office.”
“I’m pretty sure that Dr. Bradshaw will give you a doctor’s not to excuse you,”
she told me.
“Oh, yeah I guess I forgot that there’s that,” I laughed.
“Are we in a good mood today or something,” she asked me.
“Shut up, I’m just really tired,” I answered pretending to be mad at her.
“I can tell,” she said. “Let’s go get this appointment done and over with.”
I followed her into the clinic and waited for my name to be called.
“How are you feeling today,” Dr. Bradshaw asked me when she walked into the
room that a nurse had led me and my mom to a few minutes earlier.
“Okay, I guess,” I answered.
“How were you yesterday with having to stay in bed all day?”
“It was boring and absolutely horrible,” I told her. “Why did you say I needed
bed rest and then later decide that I didn’t need it?”
“I thought you might ask me that,” Dr. Bradshaw said. “When I told you that
you would need bed rest I thought that your condition and your baby’s condition
was worse than what it really ended up being. Either way it was probably best for
you to take it as easy as I hope you did for at least a day after what happened to
you. I really do believe that it might have helped the baby. I know that it probably
sounds weird and confusing, but the main point is that even though it was only for
a day the bed rest did benefit you and the baby since you were able to regain
some of your strength.”
“Yeah, that is kind of confusing so I’m not even going to try to wrap my mind
around it,” I said. Basically all that I had understood was the fact that Dr.
Bradshaw thought that the one day of bed rest helped me regain some strength.
“Okay,” Dr. Bradshaw laughed. “If you want to lie back and pull your shirt up a
little bit we’ll go ahead and listen to the baby’s heartbeat.” I did what she asked,
and then she squirted some cold gel on my stomach and I flinched.
“Do you know how far along she is,” my mom asked.
I was shocked because my mom never spoke when were at my doctors
appointments.
Dr. Bradshaw thought about it for a second, then she said, “Nine weeks which is
three months.”
“Oh, okay,” my mom said.
“The baby’s heartbeat sounds nice and healthy,” Dr. Bradshaw said wiping the
gel off of my stomach. “Do either of you have any questions or concerns?”
“I’ve been feeling a little lightheaded over the past few days, is that normal,” I
asked.
“It’s perfectly normal as long as it doesn’t last long and it only comes
occasionally,” Dr. Bradshaw answered. “Although, in your case it might be your
body still recovering from the other night. It should go away in the next couple
of days tops, but if it doesn’t give a call and we’ll see what the problem is, okay?”
I nodded my head in response and started getting lost in my own thoughts, but
my mom’s question got my attention.
“Should we be concerned about her’s and the baby’s well-being if she’s going to school on a daily basis?”
“I don’t really think that there is going to be any problem with her going to
school,” Dr. Bradshaw answered. “Most mothers of mothers-to-be who are still in high school are worried about their daughters going to school. If
both you and Mandi really wanted to, you could take her out of public school
and do online schooling. I really wouldn’t suggest this unless rumors are started
and are really horrible and unbearable. But in all honesty, there is absolutely
nothing to worry about heath wise. Do you have any other questions?”
My mom looked to me and I shook my head, and then she said, “No, I think we
were good.”
“All right then don’t forget to set up another appointment before you leave,” Dr.
Bradshaw said.
“Thank you,” my mom said before we left the room.
Before we left the clinic my mom and I set up another appointment for a month
later.
Now it’s back to school I go, I thought dreadfully to myself.
