It was a starless night in early April as you hurried over the dark street and to the entry of the subway. It was freezing cold outside; April seemed pretty uninterested in spring weather. You wore only a thin jacket since it had been warmer when you had met with your friend in the afternoon. The planned meeting at the café had later turned into dinner and then drinks at a small bar. Now it was long dark and cold outside.

Your shoes clicked over the asphalt while you pulled up the collar of your jacket to protect yourself from the slight drizzle that fell from the sky. As uncomfortable as the night seemed, it had a magical atmosphere about it. If this had been a movie, cheerful guitar music would have played in the background with a young man singing about falling in love, and the protagonists of the movie would meet for the first time under embarrassing conditions, yet fall for each other in the beat of a heart.

You shook your head to get rid of these thoughts. As magical as this night felt, this was no movie. Your life was pretty boring and you certainly did not believe that something like 'love at first sight' could ever happen to you. Anyway, your chance to fall in love for this evening was over. Your best shot would have been a slightly drunk thirty year old man at the bar who told you proudly he had built a boat himself. You had to admit that was pretty impressive but he was slightly weird and when you noticed the golden band around his left ring finger, you had quickly distanced yourself from him.

You pulled out your wallet and payed for your ticket at the ticket machine. It made a few sounds that made you worry it would break apart any moment, or shoot you with unprinted tickets, but luckily it did not. You grabbed the ticket and the change and headed down the stairs to the platform. Tiredly you shot a glance at the electronic board that displayed the arrival time of your train. Almost fifteen minutes. A shiver went down your spine. You hated being alone in the middle of the night in the middle of the city, and you were still cold. You heard steps on the staircase that you had walked down only a minute ago. Out of reflex you turned your head. It was a young man, short brown hair, a guitar case in hand and a rucksack on his back. He was incredibly handsome and you had to remind yourself not to stare at him. When he arrived at the platform, you shot him another glance. You noticed he looked tired and worn out. His shoes were dirty with mud and his thick jacket was soaked with rain. He noticed your look and you quickly turned away, your cheeks heating up. He really was beautiful. When you noticed him walk closer to you, your heart sped up. Wow, you really were not used to such a strong reaction when a stranger was around.

The steps stopped right next to you and a rather timid voice spoke up.

"Could this be love at first sight, or should I walk by again?"

You looked up at the man, unable to hide the amused yet nervous smile around your lips. He was taller than you had expected and his blue eyes expectantly looked down on you. A blush was creeping on his cheeks making yours heat up as well.

"What a magical world that would be," you answered with a wink. Hey, where did this boldness come from?

The man giggled at that, his eyes crinkling and revealing adorable dimples.

"So you don't," he made sure to ask.

"Five minutes ago, I didn't. Now I'm not so sure anymore," you told him.

"Oh wow, I think we just created magic," he laughed with wide eyes.

It was weird. Usually you were a rather shy person, but something about this man made you trust him, made you feel save.

With a quick glance he scanned your outfit. "Aren't you cold?" he wondered. "Ripped jeans and thin jacket for these temperatures? I mean, not that you don't look exceptionally good, you do, really like, I mean, wow, but you must be cold, don't you?"

Now it was you who giggled. His honest concern was too adorable.

"I am, a little," you admitted. "I just didn't plan on staying out so long, you know? And thanks by the way," you added.

"Thanks for what?" The young man seemed confused.

"For the complement," you explained. "No one's ever said I look good in this." You tucked at your oversized, black Fall Out Boy shirt.

"Oh come on," he said unbelievingly. "It has style. Do you like Fall Out Boy?"

You nodded wildly. "I love them," you exclaimed excited. "Do you know their music?"

"Sure, who doesn't?" he smiled. "What's your favorite song by them?"

"Seriously? You can't make me choose, it's like making a mother choose between their children," you whined, making him laugh again. "Do you make music too," you wondered, nodding towards his guitar.

"Oh, yeah," he nervously glanced down on his instrument. "I play in a band."

"That sounds amazing," you looked at him in fascination. "I always wanted to learn guitar."

"Well actually, this is a bass guitar," he corrected, lifting the instrument up a bit.

"Oh, I'm sorry," immediately you felt terribly stupid for making that mistake.

"Don't worry," he calmed you, "it's easy to confuse them, especially if they are in their cases and you don't have much to do with them."

Shyly you smiled up at him. He was so patient and kind. You were really interested in getting to know him better, but then again this was just a random encounter in the middle of the night. The chances to meet him again were slim. Of course you could always ask for his number, but you were far too shy to do that.

For a while you stood next to each other in silence. It was a little awkward especially since you always felt his eyes on your face.

"Aw man, I really don't know what to say," he suddenly said, making you giggle. "Let's start over again, shall we?"

"You believe in second chances, don't you?" You giggled as he shrugged with a smile. "Okay, so... good evening, my name is (y/n). How are you?"

He laughed at your almost theatrical line and extended his free hand for you to shake. "Good evening, my name is Dallon and I am doing rather fine this evening after having met the most extraordinary person by pure accident, and how are you?"

You quietly laughed at his compliment. "I am doing fine as well, Sir. I just encountered a young musician, a bassist, on my way home. He was very good company."

Dallon laughed too, making you feel warm inside. For a moment he stared at you.

"Could this be love at first sight," he asked, suddenly sounding almost philosophical. You were about to answer when he groaned. "Oh wait, I said that before."

You giggled. "Maybe it is," you told him, making him look at you with a glimmer in his eyes. Dear god above, how could someone you had just met for the first time make your heart beat so fast?

You continued talking. At some point in the conversation you started shivering from the cold, so Dallon took of his jacked and draped it around your shoulders. You had protested, but he had insisted. The jacked was warm and smelled nice. It was a smell that made you feel calm and cared for. Sometime later your train arrived and both of you got in.

"Where are you going," Dallon asked interested as you had sat down.

You told him your station and he nodded thoughtfully.

"And you?"

He hesitated for a moment before answering.

"I need a place for the night," he confessed. "All the hotels I went to were already closed."

A shiver went down your spine, but it was a good shiver. Was he really asking you if he could stay at your place? You had only known him for a little more than twenty minutes, but you liked him, he seemed an amazing person and you were very interested on getting to know him better.

"I don't have much space in my apartment," you told him shyly.

It was true, you only had a single bed and did not even own a sofa; the apartment was too small. You only had an armchair.

"I'd be happy to sleep on the floor," he quickly assured you, looking up at you with puppy dog eyes.

You gently smiled at him when suddenly he sat up straight, a worried look on his face.

"If you don't want me to come over, just tell me, okay? I really don't mean to bother you at all, I swear, if you want me to leave you alone, I'm gonna stop bothering you!"

"It's alright, don't worry," you smiled, reaching your hand out and resting it on his knee. "If I didn't wanna talk to you, I would've said so. Or if I didn't want you to stay over."

A shy smile pulled at the corners of his lips and he relaxed back in his seat.

~*~

Not long after you reached your apartment. You were nervous to bring a stranger to your home, but you felt closer to Dallon than you felt to most of your friends.

You switched on the lights and prepared a makeshift bed in the living room where he could spend the night. When you were done, you none of you were tired, so you decided to watch a movie. You turned off the lights, leaving only a small lamp at the other end of the room burning. You had insisted that Dallon took the armchair after he had given his jacket to you so gentlemanly. You sat on the floor, leaning against his legs.

When the movie was over, you kept sitting in the living room to talk. You talked about everything that came to mind, about the weather, music, favorite painters and best school experiences.

When Dallon told you he loved dancing, you laughed lightly.

"I've never learned how to dance," you confessed.

"Really? I can show you, it's easy!"

Dallon jumped up from the armchair and pulled you up too.

"Do you have music?"

Quickly you shuffled through your CDs until you found the latest Fall Out Boy album and put it into the CD player. Dallon smiled at your choice of music and reached out his hand for you to take.

Nervously you placed your hand in his and immediately he pulled you closer. He placed his hands on your waist and pulled you so you were standing right in front of him.

"Put your hand on my shoulder," he directed.

You did as he told you and he slightly swung to the rhythm.

"You did have to choose Fall Out Boy, didn't you," he smiled amused.

You shrugged, glancing up at him embarrassed.

For a while you kept gently moving to the music before he spun you around. Giggling you followed his lead. After that you felt more confident and both of you continued to dance wilder. You spun each other around; you swung to the melody or hugged each other at the end of a song. For anyone who would have been watching from outside, it probably looked totally ridiculous, but you felt like you were on top of the world.

By the time the album was over you were totally exhausted, out of breath and sweaty. But so was Dallon, which made you feel better. Laughing you hugged each other, both of you high on Adrenaline.

When he pulled back, Dallon quickly pecked you on the lips. Immediately realizing what he had done, he looked up at you worriedly, but you smiled happily and hugged him again.

Just a few minutes later you had fallen asleep on the floor, cuddled into Dallon's chest, who had his arms tightly wrapped around you. A peaceful smile was spread on both of your faces, knowing that things like 'falling in love at first sight' did, in fact, exist.
