The TARDIS materialises in a filing room. A buzzer sounds in Churchill's office, and he smiles. The Doctor opens the TARDIS doors to stare down the barrels of three Lee Enfield rifles, made in Britain, which move aside to reveal the PM, {Y/N} sticks her head out from behind the Doctor, he pulls her out.
"Amy? Winston Churchill" the Doctor says.
"Doctor, {Y/N}. Is it you?" Churchill asks.
"Oh, Winston, our old friend," the Doctor says, going to shake Churchill's hand but Churchill holds out his hand and beckons "ah, every time."
"What's he after?" Amy asks looking up at {Y/N}.
"TARDIS key, of course," {Y/N} replies.
"Think of what I could achieve with your remarkable machine. The lives that could be saved."
"Ah, doesn't work like that" {Y/N} says.
"Must I take it by force?"
"We'd like to see you try."
"At ease."
"You rang?" the Doctor asks
"So, you've changed your faces again."
"Yeah, well, had a bit of work done," the Doctor says, {Y/N} nodding in agreement.
"Got it, got it, got it. Cabinet War Rooms, right?" Amy asks.
"Yep. Top secret heart of the War Office, right under London" {Y/N} says.
"You're late, by the way" he hands the Doctor his cane.
"Requisitions, sir."
"Excellent."
"Late?"
"I rang you a month ago."
"Really? Sorry, sorry. It's a Type Forty TARDIS, it's. We're just running her in."
"Something the matter, Breen? You look a little down in the dumps."
"No, sir. Fine, sir."
"Action this day, Breen. Action this day."
"Yes, sir."
"Excuse me, sir. Got another formation coming in, Prime Minister. Stukas, by the look of them."
"We shall go up top then, Group Captain. We'll give them what for. Coming, Doctor? {Y/N}?"
"Why?"
"I have something to show you two" they all walk to the lift, "we stand at a crossroads, Doctor and {Y/N}, quite alone, with our backs to the wall. Invasion is expected daily. So, I will grasp with both hands anything that will give us an advantage over the Nazi menace."
"Such as?" {Y/N} asks.
"Follow me" a short time later they arrive at the roof where they see sandbags and sentries, and a white-coated scientist searching the skies with powerful binoculars.
"Wow," Amy says.
"{Y/N}, Doctor, this is Professor Edwin Bracewell. Head of our Ironsides Project" the Doctor gives him a V for a Victory salute.
"How do you do?"
"Two flights JU thirty eights approaching from the east" a bomb lands nearby. Amy gazes at all the barrage balloons moored over the city.
"Oh, Doctor. {Y/N}, it's..." she trails off.
"History," the Doctor says.
"Ready, Bracewell?"
"Aye aye, sir. On my order, fire!" energy bolts zoom out from a sandbagged emplacement towards the approaching Nazi planes.
"What was that?" Amy asks.
"That wasn't human. That was never human technology. That sounded like. Show us. Show us. Show us what that was!" the Doctor says running up the small ladder followed by {Y/N}.
"Advance."
"Our new secret weapon. Ha!" a Dalek rolls out from the emplacement. Its designation logo is a Union Flag and it is painted khaki, with an army utility belt around it "what do you think? Quite something, eh?"
"What are you doing here?" {Y/N} asks.
"I am your soldier."
"What?"
"I am your soldier."
"Stop this. Stop now. Now, you know who we are. You always know" the Doctor says.
"Your identities are unknown."
"Perhaps I can clarify things here. This is one of my Ironsides."
"Your what?"
"You will help the Allied cause in any way that you can."
"Yes."
"Until the Germans have been utterly smashed."
"Yes."
"And what is your ultimate aim?"
"To win the war."
*Time skip*
"They're Daleks. They're called Daleks" the Doctor says.
"They are Bracewell's Ironsides, Doctor. Look. Blueprints, statistics, field tests, photographs. He invented them."
"Invented them? Oh, no, no, no" {Y/N} says shaking her head.
"Yes. He approached one of our brass hats a few months ago. The fellow's a genius."
"A Scottish genius, too. Maybe you should listen to-" the Doctor cuts Amy off.
"Shush...He didn't invent them... They're alien."
"Alien" one glides past the open door, looking in, then continues on its way.
"And totally hostile."
"Precisely. They will win me the war."
*Time skip*
"Why won't you listen to us? Why did you call us in if you won't listen to us?" {Y/N} asks.
"When I rang you two a month ago, I must admit I had my doubts. The Ironsides seemed too good to be true."
"Yes. Right. So, destroy them. Exterminate them" the Doctor says.
"But imagine what I could do with a hundred. A thousand."
"We are imagining" {Y/N} says crossing her arms over her chest, a Dalek goes past carrying a despatch box.
"Amy, tell him," the Doctor says.
"Tell him what?"
"About the Daleks."
"What would I know about the Daleks?"
"Everything. They invaded your world, remember? Planets in the sky. You don't forget that. Amy, tell me you remember the Daleks."
"No, sorry."
"That's not possible."
*Time skip*
"Blue leader to Two squadron and six two three five seven. Over."
"Bandits at ten o'clock."
"Two three five seven. Over."
"So, they're up to something. But what is it? What are they after?" {Y/N} asks.
"Well, let's just ask, shall we?" Amy says walking towards a Dalek.
"Amy. Amelia!" the Doctor says, Amy taps on a Dalek's shell.
"Can I be of assistance?"
"Oh. Yes, yes. See, my friends reckon you're dangerous. That you're an alien. Is it true?" Amy asks.
"I am your soldier."
"Yeah. Got that bit. Love a squaddie. What else, though?"
"Please excuse me. I have duties to perform."
"Winston. Winston, please" the Doctor says.
"We are waging total war, Doctor. Day after day the Luftwaffe pound this great city like an iron fist."
"Wait till the Daleks get started" {Y/N} says.
"Men, women, and children slaughtered. Families torn apart. Wren's churches in flame."
"Yeah. Try the Earth in flames" {Y/N} replies, the Doctor puts his hand on her arm.
"I weep for my country. I weep for my empire. It is breaking my heart."
"You're resisting, Winston. The whole world knows you're resisting. You're a beacon of hope" the Doctor says.
"But for how long? Millions of innocent lives will be saved if I use these Ironsides now."
"Can I be of assistance?"
"Shut it. Listen to us. Just listen. The Daleks have no conscience, no mercy, no pity" the Doctor says.
"They are our oldest and deadliest enemy. You cannot trust them" {Y/N} says.
"If Hitler invaded hell, I would give a favorable reference to the Devil. These machines are our salvation" a siren sounds "oh, the All Clear. We are safe, for now," Churchill leaves, followed by a Dalek.
"Doctor, {Y/N}, it's the All Clear. You okay?" Amy asks the Doctor and {Y/N} look at her.
"What does hate look like, Amy?"
"Hate?"
"It looks like a Dalek. And we're going to prove it."
