33| start of some things

The party was in full swing. Yet, the Russian boy was unable to enjoy the night. Elijah sat outside the glass mansion, near the patio with a glass of Scotch in his hands. It was quiet here. There were people littered inside, dancing and grinding to the beat, as far as he could see from the glass windows.

Expensive chairs stood next to him in a straight line while the grass and the night sky twinkling with a crowd of stars stretched endlessly.

He twirled the glass around his hand aimlessly, not having enough heart to enjoy even the only glass he had slowly drunk the whole night. Jade hadn't returned yet and he already felt as if she'd been gone for an entire year.

It really was impossible. They'd been dating a long time, and had always been together. Always. Even for trips, they had gone together, without leaving another behind.

Sighing, he unbuttoned one of the buttons of his Hermes crisp black shirt, feeling more suffocated than ever. Strong wind blew through the dark night, ruffling his short black hair.

"Elijah."

And there she was. Tangled blonde hair lay on her shoulders as her grey eyes looked at him. The whites of her eyes were red like she'd been crying and the way her mouth quivered by saying a word rather than a sob only confirmed it. Her black shorts and tank explained that she didn't really come here for the party but for him.

He didn't really remember what he was thinking about. All he knew was that he saw the love of his life standing just two feet away from him and not 12,000 miles away. He didn't know when or how his muscles started working but when he finally breathed, his hands were around her waist and his head was buried in the crook of her neck and her shoulder.

"Hey-Seth said that you were outside-and hey are you okay? I mean-"

"I'm fine." He could hear himself mumbling. "More than fine honestly. I've missed you more than you can ever imagine." He could smell the Dolce and Gabbana on her, the scent of flower and innocence wafted and encapsulated her. Just like she was. Like she'll ever be.

"I've-I've missed you too." He could hear the hesitation in her voice by her gestures. She was always emotional, so she mostly spoke with her body. A slight movement of her limbs could alert Elijah of anything.

He let go of her, more specifically the touch between his head and her shoulder. His hands still remained intact with her, now no longer resting on her waist but at her shoulders, gently massaging them.

"What's wrong? Was your trip to London not good? Love the brown roots by the way." He complimented.

She smiled. But unlike other times, the smile didn't reach her eyes. "No no, it was good. Thanks."

"Then what's wrong?" He questioned. "Your shoulders are really tense."

She sighed. "You're too quick for me."

"I've dated you for a long time. I know you."

"Sometimes I wonder if you really do." She muttered under her breath softly. Soft but Elijah heard it.

"What's that supposed to mean?" He asked, laughing. He couldn't think of a bigger lie. He knew everything about her.

She bit her lip, looking around, grey eyes not meeting his black ones. "Nothing. Nothing." She sighed. "Look I have something to tell you."

He cocked an eyebrow. "What?"

She looked around as Elijah stopped massaging her shoulders. Hugging her herself because of the chilly air, she said, "not here. Come to my house and then I'll explain. I drove here so it's fine I'll drive. I'd rather you wouldn't drive while being intoxicated."

Lisa couldn't believe that her best friend had taken the side of some nobody instead of her. If people thought that she was mad a few seconds ago, she was furious right now.

Lisa was never mad. Most of the time. Her bubbly facade made sure of it. Of course on the inside, her narcissistic personality would get mad but never on the outside.

Being narcissistic had always helped her mood. That meant that she knew that she was pretty and nothing could ruin it. She was perfect. At least that she thought to herself. Her grades were amazing. She was at the top of the social hierarchy. She had a numerous amount of zeroes in her bank account. She was worshipped and looked like she came straight out of a Vogue magazine.

So why wasn't she good enough for Alex? Why was that blonde bimbo better than her?

She just couldn't comprehend it.

He thinks that she's prettier than me. That's definitely it. The brunette thought bitterly.

He always did like blondes better. Most of his exes were dumb blondes who had bigger boobs than Lisa.

She was salty and mad at the same time, unsure which emotion to give priority to.

She sashayed down the grand staircase in anger, heels clacking against the floor. When she reached the bottom, she immediately went over to the bar, sliding onto one of the bar stools that were lined.

"A Martini please." She asked, burying her head in her hands while the bartender served her drink. A slight clack that echoed through her ears, telling her that her Martini made contact with the black marble caused her to unbury her head and focus her attention towards the martini.

She drunk it on one go, the alcohol of gin and vermouth filling her system. She asked for another and dunked it onto her mouth as well. Again she asked for another, and then another one and so on.

By the fifth martini, she was already feeling more drunk than she previously was. Her need to see the blonde bimbo face to face strengthened and off she went, hunting a clueless Alessandra down, searching for her in every nook and cranny.

She at last found her, arm in arm with Alex, talking and laughing with Bethany Mallows.

Fury clouded her thoughts as she took long strides toward her target, alcohol clouding her vision.

She cut right in front of Beth, just a few touches away from her ex and his current.

"Hey Alex." She greeted them. Although her lips were quirked up in a smile, her eyes reflected venom, her words poison.

He hesitated slightly, knowing full well what kind of girl Lisa Treenton was. "Hey. What's up."

From the background and over the loud music she could hear Bethany politely excusing herself and she took that opportunity to back a few touches away.

She didn't want to attract or get any disease from the bimbo. She kept her smile intact as her line of gaze switched from Alex to Alessandra.

The blonde wasn't that tall. Pretty short to be honest at a probable 5"2 as far as Lisa could see. She looked shorter, with her boyfriend being a solid 6"1. Her white two piece dress fit her nicely, hugging her large breast and curvy ass. She was pale with soft blonde hair in waves reaching her collarbone.

"So," she inquired falsely, "who is this?"

She could feel Alessandra's gaze on her and she couldn't help but internally applaud herself for a job well done. Her rose gold lace dress reached the middle of her thigh gracefully, her arms covered halfway with a breezy sleeve made of lace that reached 4 inches abound her elbow. She had straightened her hair and left it to loose to fall to her back and the Mac makeup she was wearing indicated nothing but sophistication.

Alex rubbed the back of his neck nervously. He really was handsome. Despite Lisa's anger at his poor choice of a girlfriend she couldn't help but admire the breathtaking French and Irish boy who was in front of her. His copper hair was mussed to perfection, a delicate jawline lining his face as strong and fit arms tightened it's hold on Alessandra's waist as his Adam's apple bobbed.

"Uhh...this is Alessandra. My girlfriend. Alessandra meet Lisa." He said nervously.

Alessandra raised a brow. "Wait. Lisa as in your ex-girlfriend Lisa?" She asked, her gaze switching from Lisa's to Alex's.

Good. She knows who I am. It's time for me to be the jealous ex.

"Yeah. But we're still friends."

Now that stung. Nothing hurt her more than the 'just friends' comment. She wondered how he could've ever forgotten ever touch, every kiss and every morning they had spent together. Granted it was only one summer but it was special to her. She thought it was special to him too.

Now she knew what she really was to him. Just a summer fling.

"Oh. So you're just friends with her?" Alessandra questioned, snapping Lisa out of her reverie.

Oh god.

"Yeah. Is it that weird? I mean we were friends before we dated. So we're friends after as well."

Lisa couldn't stand any word that was spewed out of Alex's mouth right now. Hoping that her smile was still etched into her face, she said, "Alex? Could you please get me and Alessandra a drink?"

"Get your own-"

"Please?" Alessandra butt in, sensing the mood. "My throat has been dry for a while now."

Alex sighed. "Sure sure. Y'all good with punch?" He asked. "I want a martini, dry please." Lisa said at the same time Alessandra said, "yeah."

Alex hesitated for a slight second before he went off in another direction, heading towards the bar and kitchen.

Lisa turned her attention towards the blonde. "So." She mused. "You're Alex's new play toy huh?"

Alessandra grimaced. "I'm just his girlfriend. But I'm guessing you were his play toy. Considering he's told me all about you and seeing as if you were just some summer fling." She grinned.

Oh that was it.

"Please. He was serious enough." She lied. No he wasn't. "We would have continued if it wasn't for-" she stopped herself knowing the mistake she made. She was almost about to reveal what happened last summer. She may have wanted to create a web of lies to prove that she and Alex were serious but she couldn't do it with revealing vital information that she herself didn't know until a few weeks ago.

She wondered how she and Alex could've missed it. The signs. The crime. The disappearance. The fire. And the shocked look on everyone's faces when they came to bid the night goodbye.

"Anyways, it won't be a matter of time before he gets tired of you." She clarified, trying to not stray from the topic.

Alessandra scoffed. "Like he got tired of you? I don't think so."

"What do you know about me?" Lisa challenged. This bimbo was testing her patience. And Grey actually defended her.

"A lot in fact." She smirked. "Alex told me all about you. All about how you were really clingy and needy." She went on. "Oh and apparently you were really talkative in bed. He told me that took the fun out of fucking you."

Lisa swallowed as hot tears sprang into her eyes. And before she could let them fall, she plummeted herself onto Alessandra, a cat fight ready to begin.
