Hide Away- Daya
"Where do the good boys go to hide away."
---
"How does this look?" Alice asks me.
She holds up a shirt that's way too low cut for her. But noticing that she has a smaller frame than me, it didn't matter. "Eh," I say.
She rolls her eyes at me. "You're such a prude."
"Hey, I am not!" I swat her arm. She giggles evilly at me.
It's been two days since Jake and I, you know... fooled around. And my vagina was still sore. How the fûck was it still painful? It's been two freaking days. Yesterday it was terrible, I felt like I was on my period the whole day. I kept throwing glares at Jake during class, and he just kept giving me smirks. How was I ever going to be ready for sex if my freaking vag was going to hurt? Today, it's a whole lot better, but I still felt that pitch.
It's Thursday, after school. Lauren, Alice, and I are all at the mall going shopping. I decided to buy new bras because my old ones were getting way to small.
I looked at my Target deal. If I get two, I get one free... Hm... This seems good-
"Dawn! Put down the cheap bra!" Lauren scolds me.
Confusion fills me as I hold the bra to me. "It's cheap, and I need new bras."
Alice walks over to us. "Dawny Dawn... Tsk tsk." Alice looks down with dissatisfaction. "It's time to upgrade."
"Upgrade to where?"
Lauren and Alice look at each other with a bright smile. "Victoria Secret!" They both squeal in my ear.
I cringe at Lauren and Alice but follow them when they both pull my arms towards the expensive store. I didn't want to buy a bra that was going to be 30 dollars or more. Fûck no. But I couldn't deny the support of them when I put the bra on. Alice and Lauren begged me to put on sexier ones, but I tried to find the best ones that just had minimal lace on it. I got a couple.
Next on our trip was frozen yogurt.
I loved this. I really did. Just being with my friends right now made me feel whole. It felt like Lauren, and I haven't had time to connect in a while, and I loved it.
"So," Lauren says while she is in mid-bite. "Reese... Is she a new thing?"
I furrow my brows and start picking at my yogurt. "What does that mean?"
"Meaning?" She squints her eyes, trying to focus on what she wants to say. "Is she like trying to hang out with us and stuff?"
"Yeah. Does that seem like a problem to you?" I ask her knowing she'll say no because she's Lauren, and she loves making new friends.
"Yeah, I do."
I almost spit out my yogurt at her but swallow heavily. "Why? She's a nice girl."
"I don't trust her Dawn!" Her voice raising. "When we get in a fight, Reese came along and tried to swoop you away from me."
"You're acting absurdly. Honestly." Completely ridiculous.
"Alice thinks so too," Lauren tells me.
I stare at Alice who's in mid-bite, and she stares wide eyes back at me. "No I don't, do not bring me into this."
"Whatever I just-"
And at that moment, I saw something in the corner of my eye, a wave in my general direction. I zoned out, at whatever Lauren was going on about, and saw Dawson waving towards me. I've been avoiding him for days now since the whole thing with James and Jake. "Lauren shut up for a second."
"What?"
"Dawson's here." He starts walking over our direction. "And he's coming over here."
"Oh, that's nice." She says ineffective.
What am I going to say? Sorry that my fuckbuddy beat the shit out of one of your friends. He was being a perv.
"Hey girls." He says to us.
"Hey, Dawson," Lauren says. She doesn't seek interest in him, and completely ignores him still eyeing her yogurt.
"Hi..." I say. I really don't know what else to speak to him.
He seems just as awkward as me. He starts to jump on his heels, and I can tell the nervousness oozing off him. What's wrong with him?
"Is everything okay?" Alice asks him before I can.
"Yeah... Yeah." Dawson eyes me like a hawk as I look down at my food. He won't stop staring at me. "Dawn... Do you think we can talk for a moment?"
I'm completely dumbfounded. Why does he want to talk to me? The only reason that I can think of is the incident with James and Jake. I eye Alice, and she nods her head to go. I stand up and follow Dawson who leads me away from them.
Suddenly he stops when we reach at least 20 feet away. "Listen, if this is about the thing with James-"
"It's not, but I am sorry about that. Alice told me everything when I saw you leave... with him." The way he said him, sounded like he was talking about a murderer or something, and it didn't sit well with my stomach the ways he so slyly mentioned Jake, but I let it go for him to continue." Just for you to know, I'm not friends with James anymore."
I nod my head, hoping he can continue what he was going to say.
"So the reason why I wanted to talk to you was... I want to take you on a date."
When did this happen? Did he like me? I couldn't comprehend anything. "What- I uh... Why?"
"Because you're gorgeous obviously." Making me blush. "I've meant to ask you out, but you've been avoiding me. So when I saw you here whiles I was shopping, I couldn't pass up the opportunity."
"I don't know what to say." My blush was becoming redder and redder by the second.
"Say yes." He brings his hand to my cheek and brings it slightly closer to him.
I feel something when he touches me, but I don't know exactly what I feel. Dawson was attractive and very tall too. He seems nice to me, and I liked that about him. One date wouldn't hurt me, so I nod my head yes. I'm not breaking any rules, am I?
"Perfect." He pulls me to him, and I'm panicked that he's going to kiss me, but instead, he kisses me on the cheek. We agreed that the date would be set next Friday, and I was surprisingly excited.
We exchange numbers and a hug. I run to the table to my only two friends and start to squeal like a horse.
Never in my life has someone asked me out or taken an interest in me. It felt weird and unsettling that someone did. Someone like Dawson.
"What happened?" Alice looks amused.
"Dawson just kind of asked me out."
Lauren look at me, really looks at me, a smile spreading across her pink lips, "You're okay with this?" I ask her, I know that she and Dawson hooked up, and a different Dawn would have said no because of that, but I needed my mind off of Jake, so I said yes.
"Of course!" We all laugh together happily. "But you do know if you do go on a date with him, you're going to be doing a lot more then just kissing right?" Her voice is becoming serious.
"What?" My excitement is falling.
"Well..." She stirs her yogurt that's melted a bit. "He's Dawson Peterson. He doesn't just kiss on the first date, he goes much farther or so I've heard. I mean come on... He fucked me before he even knew my last name."
I look for Alice for help, but she just shrugs and says, "Yeah, I heard that too."
Well now I'm nervous. Quite nervous. I've done nothing to please anyone, but Jake, and he's the one pleasuring me since he hasn't called me.
Speaking of Jake, my phone rings unexpectedly. Alice and Lauren eye my phone like a hawk.
Jake: I need you.
"I need you."
Those words rang in my head as I read the words on my phone.
"Who is that?" Lauren asks with a bright smile holding her face.
"Oh... Just my mom." I lie through my teeth. "She wants me to come home early for dinner."
"Do you have to leave now?" Alice pouts.
"I need you."
"Yeah, I guess so- so. She got off early today I suppose." I fumble with my words.
We say our goodbyes, and I start to head to a bus stop, Lauren and Alice wanted to do more shopping, and I wasn't going to ruin it for them just so Jake and I can make out. Once I got outside my phone starts to ring, signaling he was probably calling me.
"I'm coming now," I tell him.
"Where are you?"
"I'm at the city mall, but I'm catching a bus stop right now."
"Wait... Did you just say you're walking to a bus stop?" I can hear his voice becoming once again dominating, and I found my middle weeping for him.
"Yeah." I squeak out.
"Fuck, no you're not. I'm picking you up; stay right where you are."
"Lauren and Alice are at the mall, and if they catch us, they'll know what's up." I reason with him; he's acting weird. It's not like I'm hitchhiking. Why would he care anyway?
I hear him groan. "Fine." He sighs. "Just be careful." His voice is becoming somewhat calm.
Mood swings much. I didn't know what he thought of half the time. Why would he even care if I was safe or not? I end the call and rush towards the bus stop.
