So yesterday, I kinda binge-watched Pokemon, so that's why I wasn't able to post much...or I think I wasn't able to post much. I mean...I was gonna post Drew's Oneshot for CPCQ Challenge #2, and I might have written the next parts of either PIA: Quest for Love or Pokemon World: The Johto Journeys.
I usually pick random episodes to watch, but for some reason, I decided to watch the Kanto Grand Festival arc. I don't usually watch that whole arc as....whole. I usually just watch the Drew and May battle because it's one of the best battles evah.
So...yeah. The Kanto Grand Festival arc consists of three episodes: "May, We Harley Drew'd Ya!", "Thinning the Hoard" and "Channeling the Battle Zone".
While watching these three episodes, some random stuff just came out of my mouth. I don't think I've realized these things before, or I just ignored some things, or I repeat the same things over and over whenever I watch the episodes again...but yeah...I just want to share the thoughts I had when I watched them.
1) May, We Harley Drew'd Ya!
- I wonder if Milani is in the audience watching the Grand Festival. Ok...I know Milani is my OC, but hey. In the LMNOverse, Milani took on the Kanto/Indigo League during the times Ash took on the Battle Frontier. In the animeverse, the Battle Frontier is in Kanto. Since she is my OC, I can actually answer this question myself. She's there because let's say that the Indigo League starts right after the Grand Festival, at the same time, she's there to watch Drew compete. She probably talked to Drew during the times he was off-screen.
- Wait...Caroline couldn't make it to the Grand Festival because she was busy...but what exactly does Caroline do for a living anyway? If Norman is the Gym Leader, what does Caroline do?
- When Solidad introduced herself to May, why did she smile like that? Especially when Sol said she has heard so much about May from Drew. Please explain this to me, Pokemon anime writers.
- Jessie is so conceited.
- When Solidad and the crew where having some juice, why is Solidad pretty telling May everything? Like the time Drew cried after his first contest. It's either she feels like it is important for May to know to motivate her I guess or she is terrible at keeping secrets. And my fellow Contestshippers, I know you're saying that Solidad wants May and Drew to be together and stuff, but I'm trying to be real here. But then again, the anime leaves us with so many questions left unanswered, and that's why we write so many fanfiction.
- I still wonder why Roselia is so effin big in the anime when it's supposed to be only a foot long. But then...imagine seeing Drew with a foot-long Roselia. You barely could see the Roselia. Maybe that's why they made Roselia that big. In the games, the NPC's Roselia looks really small that you could barely see it. Now imagine Drew with a tiny Roselia with him all the time.
- So...why would Harley give May a black and fake rose?
- So...how come Drew only talks about May when there are tons of good coordinators he could talk about? And get this...they didn't compete against each other in a single contest in Kanto. Drew made an appearance in some contests, but he was just a spectator.
- "Since he's been watching you grow stronger in your performance, he's gotten feelings for you." What you trying to say Solidad-senpai???? There are so many feelings in the world, but seriously, when you hear that, what's the first thing that comes to your mind?
- Drew used Masquerain for his first round appeal. When you realize, the last time we saw Masquerain was at the last Grand Festival. Masquerain used Silver Wind. Haven't seen that since the last Grand Festival as well.
- "If I didn't know better, I'd say that Harley's got a huge crush on my sister." Max...you're making me throw up over here.
2) Thinning the Hoard
- Everybody was amazed by Absol, yet somehow Drew is not impressed.
- Munchlax might be May's best appeal performer yet. It wasn't specified, but I think May made it to the Top 10...at least that's what I saw on the screen. I even paused at that part just to count. May is at 10. Drew is at 9. No wonder he's so stressed, and he's putting all the stress on Absol. Ouch. But then...if Roselia or Masquerain did an appeal, they'd be at the top 5 or top 3, perhaps they'd get a perfect score.
- HEY LOOK BRIANNA MAKES A CAMEO APPEARANCE.
- Allow me to breakdown Harley's schemes to bring down May: First, he tricked gullible little May into thinking they were pals. He did this three times. After that, May never trusted Harley again (but seriously May, three times?). Since tricking her won't work anymore, he decided to use Drew. He knew very well that Drew is stressed and he wasn't in the best mood for anything. He knew that Drew was in the condition that he would take his anger out on May, and thus hurting her feelings. So...how did he know that May's feelings would get hurt that way? Um...I guess you can say that May is fragile and she gets upset whenever someone gets mad at her. Or maybe there's something else?
- "Your Absol tried it's absolute hardest." I know this is a freaking serious situation over here because right after this is the part where Drew just shouts at May without a freaking care in the freaking world. But seriously...the Poke-puns. May, why did you have to throw a Poke-pun now??? Maybe that's why Drew's so mad.
- Drew just has a lot of issues, I guess. I mean...he liked seeing her improve in her contest skills and stuff, but now that she's right there behind him in the standings, he's suddenly so mad at everything. Throughout the arc, I called Drew 'The Guy with Issues' or 'Mr. Issues'.
- Drew and Ash might just become the most unexpected pair of pals.
- Hmm...we know Drew doesn't really like hearing advice and shizz, and yet Ash and Brock decided to talk to Drew. So...why didn't they leave Drew alone to clarify stuff? They must care about Drew too, or they care so much about May that they care for Drew. Wow. Or they can sense something because both of them are clearly upset at that point. Hey. No relationship is perfect.
- "Watching ya there earlier made me think of the rivals I've faced over the years." Again...I know this is a serious situation because Ash is trying to help or enlighten Drew. But seriously...over the years? Over the f**king years??? Proves that Ash is forever ten.
- And yet Drew is enlightened by Ash...I guess. Maybe because he can relate to him. Like what I said, unexpected pair of pals.
- "We're rivals - May and I" Probably the strongest words I have ever heard. Like...ever.
- I guess Drew now knows the true meaning of a rival. Thank you, Ash. Ok...I don't really know if Drew didn't know that prior. But seriously...the whole Drew and Ash convo shizz with Brock not even saying much is pretty powerful.
- Wait...Harley is higher than both Drew and May in the standings??? This is the real reason why Drew was so upset. May has nothing to do with it. He is completely aware of May's steady improvement as a coordinator. Harley just tricked May into trying to talk to Drew at his worst moment. May went for the bait, and Drew got mad at her. Ok...this one is just a theory.
- So wait...Harley and May are in match number one. Drew and whoever that person is are in match three. Yet...in the next round, May and Drew battle. Was it reshuffled or is that how their bracket works? And after that, May and Solidad battle...and Solidad is in match eight.
- I assume Drew and May didn't speak to each other since that moment until they battled.
- Harley, you're ruining Wigglytuff for me!!!
3) Channeling the Battle Zone
- Is their clock broken or something because there is no way so much has happened in just one minute. But then again...anime logic. The whole battle is like more than 10 minutes (takes up half the episode, plus a few minutes from the previous episode). Let's just say that their battle is too f**king epic that so much happened in a minute.
- Drew is still undergoing puberty here because his voice is kinda cracking.Eh. He's like 11 or 12 in that episode.
- This is not related to the episode, but I'm still saying it. If Drew was already an experienced coordinator when he first met May, how come he only had Roselia up until the Rubello Contest? I mean...he might have had a Surskit or Trapinch or Vibrava hiding there somewhere. We'll never know. That's why people make fanfiction.
- I guess things worked out between Drew and Absol because that Razor Wind is hella strong.
- "Drew's finally playing 'no more Mr. Nice guy' with that squirt." Harley, you obviously didn't know about these two when they first met. Sheesh. Drew was barely nice to May. He said mean things about her skills. He's just nice to May when it comes to you. And you were there when he got mad at May. You call that nice? Ugh.
- Remember when Squirtle cried because it couldn't take a hit from Flygon? (Oh they ended up working together to save the Arcanine and the baby Growlithe). Now...Squirtle kicked Flygon's butt with that Ice Beam. I'm so proud of Squirtle.
- What's with Combusken learning new moves at the middle of a battle? First, Mega Kick (against Brianna) and now Overheat?!
- May has learned a lot, and this is proven in this battle. She never thought of these combinations and comebacks before.
- So...Drew pretty much knows all of Combusken's moves towards the end of the battle. Sike. He forgot Sky Uppercut, which is the most effective move to use against Absol. I guess it really is over, Drew.
- May finally beats Drew. Biggest. Accomplishment. Ever. BAE. Wait...what?!
- Ash and Max bromance is real.
- Seriously girl, you worked hard for this, why are you so surprised you won? Why do you have to wait for Drew to say he's okay before you cheer to the heavens?
- So...a lot of people showed up when Ash was catching Aipom. First, where the heck did you people come from? There's a battle going on inside the arena! Did you guys get tired because May and Drew's battle was just too epic for you to handle?
- Ash really wants to be a celebrity, doesn't he?
- Wait...so I guess they don't reshuffle match-ups because Drew knew that May was going up against Solidad next.
- That moment when Drew and May shook hands. It's more of a respect thing, but it's like the first time!!!
- So...I guess May used all her tricks against Drew. Or Solidad is just that good. I'll go for both.
- Wait...why is May crying? Why?! Why?! Do people always cry after the lose to Solidad? Solidad is OP. Teach me your ways, Solidad-senpai.
- Wait...who did Drew want to win in that battle? He didn't seem to happy when Solidad won. Hmm...I mean...I think he doesn't look too happy. He could have had a neutral face on. I don't think. I think he was a bit upset for May.
- Drew really cares, doesn't he?
- May has good friends. They knew she would be upset. Wait...I know Drew was there in the competitors lounge or something, and he was already eliminated. Did he see her cry or something?
- Of course Drew doesn't attend the party and he left a rose to Solidad for her to give to May. AND THE ROSE HAS RETURNED. Haven't seen one since the last Grand Festival. This proves that the roses are NOT for Beautifly since May didn't bring Beautifly to Kanto.
- Someone needs to tell May what red roses mean. I mean...didn't she ever think of searching?
--
In a series of ups and downs for both May and Drew, Drew has finally learned to see May as an equal rather than as an amateur trying-too-hard girl. His respect for her grew even more. We know that they would still see each other in Johto because May chose to follow her rivals instead of following Ash, but we were never told of what happened when they were there. MAY IS THE ONLY MAIN NON-ASH CHARACTER WITHOUT A SPECIAL EPISODE. Misty and Tracey appeared in a lot of Pokemon Chronicles episodes. Brock as well. Even Team Rocket has some. Dawn, Iris and Cilan also had special episodes, but they were only released in Japan. We never knew what happened to May when she got to Johto except for that time she went to Sinnoh to compete in the Wallace Cup. That is why so many fanfiction have been written about that topic. I haven't, and I don't plan to anytime soon.
Wait...why did Brianna say that May is the only female coordinator Drew has respect for? It's either she doesn't stalk him enough to know about Solidad, or she has other reasons, and she's just using that respect thing as a decoy? Eh...I leave this in another part...or maybe a oneshot...IDK.
So yeah...I'm done talking here. I didn't expect this part to be long. So guys...I kinda want to make more opinion-based stuff or some rants. What topic (should be Pokemon related) do you want me to discuss in a Elemeno POV next?
See ya :P
