(Angel's POV)

{1 year later}

I wake up to the sound of a crying toddler. I open my eyes to see Ellie's room. Wiping the sleep out of my eyes, I see her standing in her crib.

"Good morning," I smile at her.

She then stops crying and looks at me, her bright blue eyes glistening from the tears. Yawning, I get up and stretch before going to her.

"Hello, sweetheart," I say, kissing her forehead.

I carry her and she wraps her small arms around my neck, hugging me. Smiling and returning her gesture, we both descend the stairs.

"Good morning, Delilah." I smile.

"Good morning dear," She says.

I sigh and seat Ellie in her high chair before sitting down myself.

"Any new news about her birth parents?" Delilah asks, placing a plate in front of me.

"Nope. Her family is almost as complicated as mine,"

"Oh come on, Angel, your family isn't that complicated,"

"Oh really? Do you really want to start this conversation in the morning?"

"Yeah... Not really."

I couldn't help but chuckle. She then smiles before handing me Ellie's food jar. I grab her spoon before feeding her slowly.

Ever since I got Ellie, I've been trying to find her parents, maybe even find the vampire. I can't get those vibrant eyes out of my mind. Whenever I look at Ellie, they pop up. I have a great feeling that he is her father. I don't really know if I actually want to find her parents. On one side, I don't want her to live not knowing her parents, like me. But, on the other hand, I've grown so attached to her, I can't imagine my life without her.

"Can you believe this little munchkin is turning two in a couple of months?" I ask.

"What? She is?" Delilah asks, looking up from her waffles.

"Yeah. August third."

"Aww. You're going to be two soon? Are you? Huh, are you?" Delilah says in a babyish voice, pinching Ellie's tiny cheek.

Ellie laughs and I couldn't help but smile.

"Well, I'm off to the grocery shop, need anything specific?" Delilah says, grabbing her bag.

"Nope. Thank you," I say.

After feeding Ellie, I put her on her play mat and start eating my waffles. As I watch her play, a strange feeling consumes me. She might not be mine, but I love her so much. She then takes her box of blocks and starts playing with them. Just as I finish eating, my phone rings. I sigh before washing the plate, still keeping an eye on Ellie. I then carry her and go upstairs to my phone. After laying her on my bed, she crawls to my stuffed animals. Checking my phone, I gasp...A missed call from Mason.

Why would Mason be calling me? I haven't seen him since I found out just how complicated my family is. I sit down on the bed next to Ellie as that day runs through my mind.

"Angel? What are you doing?" Mason asks.

"Is this true?" I croak, turning around.

His eyes widen as he sees the letter in my hand.

"Where did you find this?" He asks.

"I was looking for Mom's pelican necklace and I found this in her jewelry drawer."

It was an envelope with my name on it. In it, a letter from Mom. She explained so many things that I never thought were possible. I was a mistake... a result of a drunk night between her and her boss. Then, she said that she's adopted. She explained a long complicated story... Her family, no, who I thought was her family, aren't really related to neither her nor me. So... Mason isn't really my cousin? My whole life has been a lie.

"How could you?" A tear streams down my cheek.

"Angel, I-"

"Just leave me alone." I interrupt him.

"Angel..."

"Mason, please."

My ringing phone brings me back to reality. I look down, Mason...again.

"Hey, Mason," I pick up.

"Angel... I heard that you dropped out of college, is that true?" He asks.

"It's been four years, Mason. Is that seriously the first thing you say to me?"

"Angel, just answer me."

"You know what, Mason? If you really did care, you would've at least called once since you left. So, I'm sorry, but you have no right to ask me about my college life." I say and hang up.

I let out a long breath and throw myself back on the bed. Ellie smiles before placing her hand on my forehead. Smiling, I grab her before hugging her tightly. She lets out a chuckle as I start tickling her and I just couldn't help but laugh along.

"I love you, Ellie." I sigh, giving her a chance to breathe.

She hums and lays her head on my chest. I close my eyes and rub my hand up and down her back softly. How could a person have a heart to give up such an angel? How could they have a heart to give up a child? Being able to get children is a privilege and a blessing. Some people don't get that. There are diseases, injuries, and many factors that steal this gift from women. Once you get the news, you just can't forget it. No matter how old you are, it will crush your dreams.

"Ellie?" I ask.

She then looks up at me, strands of her raven black hair falling to cover her eyes.

"Wanna go to the park?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.

A smile grows on her lips and she nods. A grin spreads on my lips as I get up, still carrying her and head to her bedroom. I place her in her bed and go to the closet.

"Yellow or pink?" I ask her, making a silly face.

She giggles and speaks in her yet to be understandable language, aka, baby language.

"I bet she'd look cute in yellow." A voice makes me jump.

I turn around to see him. Standing there, he has his usually messy black hair slicked back with gel. It's long now, almost down to his shoulders. He then purses his lips, hiding his pearly white smile. Taking off his sunglasses, he reveals his deep green eyes.

"Hey, Angel." He says.

"H-How are you here?" I ask, placing the dresses in my hand on the bed.

"You know, speaking for the fact that I haven't seen you in more than four years, I expected a hug."

"Well, you would've gotten one. But, you called and pissed me off."

"Oh, come on. You can't be mad at your cousin."

"Mason, you are not my cousin."

"Well... a friend?"

"A 'friend' wouldn't do what you did."

"God! Angel, just come and give me a hug. I miss you."

"Nope. Now, if you excuse me, I need to dress Ellie up so we can go to the park."

"Speaking of Ellie... Who is that baby?"

I couldn't help but snort. I can't believe him. He leaves for four years and I hear nothing from him, then he simply calls me and the first thing he says is 'I heard you skipped college'. After that, he just simply lets himself in to my house and expects me not to be pissed off.

"That baby is my daughter."

"Excuse me, your daughter?"

"Yes. My daughter whom I'd like to take out to the park, so if you could please leave so that we could get dressed."

"We're gonna talk about this when you get back,"

"We have nothing to talk about."

"Angel...you know that I couldn't tell you."

"Why? I could've looked for my real family."

"We are your family!"

"My mother's biological family not her adoptive."

He just sighs and runs a hand through his hair. I grab the yellow dress and start dressing Ellie. Turning around, I grab a light sweater and skinny jeans. When I look at the door, he's still there, arms crossed. I clear my throat. He looks at me and I just hold up the outfit in my hands. He raises an eyebrow.

"I want to change...get out," I say.

His cheeks turn crimson as he turns and leaves, closing the door behind him. After getting both Ellie and I ready, we head downstairs to find Mason drinking coffee and chatting with Delilah.

"Well, I'm off to the park with Ellie. See ya!" I announce as I pass through the living room and towards the door.

"Have fun. Take care," Delilah says as I step outside.

Ellie is a surprisingly calm baby. She's never had any tantrums so far. She's also never made me struggle while putting her in her car seat. She's distracted by her fingers as I tie her belt and then sit in the driver's seat. Just as I turn on the car, my favorite song starts.

"I love that song!" I exclaim and dance in my seat, making Ellie laugh, dropping her pacifier.

I smile then start driving. My beautiful hometown, Mystic Falls. It's located in central Virginia. It used to have a population of more than 6,000 people, but our population is currently unknown ever since the town was closed down then eventually restart. Aside from its foundation in 1860 by our founding families; the Fells, the Forbes, the Gilberts, the Lockwoods, and the Salvatores, the town has a long history of vampires, witches and wer-

A man flying onto my windshield springs me back to reality. I stop the car as he drops to the ground. Freaking out, I almost break the door in the process of opening it.

What have I done?

What the hell have I done?

I swear he came out of nowhere.

As I approach him, he groans. I don't see any blood, to my relief. I then squat down next to him.

"Sir, are you okay? I am so sorry, I didn't see you coming," I say.

"I'm fine," He groans.

When he opens his eyes, I freeze.

Those eyes.

Those are the eyes.

I get up and he soon follows.

"I'm so sorry." I manage to say as I pretend not to stare.

"It's fine. It's my fault. Too many drinks for this time in the morning." He rubs his temples.

"Are you sure everything's okay?" I ask.

"Yes. Yes. I'm fine. You can go about your day and just forget about this," He says then vamps away.

That's DEFINITELY the vampire from the other night.

Ellie's father.
