They are Mates: 33

The magical feeling of the late sunrise after a deep sleep, with someone- who we never knew that they meant a lot to the heart- staying close as ever, watching the orange ball was an enchanting feeling of the mates that Lucas's mother read to him when he was a kid.

The new surge of joy that slowly built up like a small sand house inside his heart made it feel enchanting when Ava patched her foot inside the magical land, holding his hand for dear life.

The look of admiration that spammed his eyes within a blink made him crazy as he couldn't help but stare at her form. She breathed the same air as him, she held his hand as tightly as him, she stood in his house where he grew up-

No.

The situation a while ago was completely quiet and warm yet confusing but it wasn't a destruction like how it was now.

Ava screamed when a sudden thunder went off, bathing the entire Kouzlo with darkness followed by an unexpected pain at the bottom of Lucas's heart that terrifyingly crept to his veins as if to high-jack his brain, resulting in an animalistic growl from his chest.

Ava's heart thumped for a second and the next thing Ava saw was only darkness and nothing.

" A- " Lucas flinched at his own body movements that pulled him to catch the limp body of the Queen, who breathed but paled like a lifeless body.

All of Lucas's emotions curled up into a ball with a menacing growl and he, in turn, immediately galloped into the portal stumbling on his feet with the Queen in his arms.

" ASLAN- "

Aslan felt a terrible twitch and was immediately jolted up by the scream of his dear King, who wasn't seated on the Emperor's chair where he was supposed to be.

He looked around cautiously trying to understand what was going on and why he was unconscious, sitting on one of the chairs while his hands and legs were tied. He pulled them apart as if they were only ribbons and widened his eyes when the King suddenly stormed inside the study with the unconscious Queen in his arms.

" Your- "

" Call Elijah! " Lucas wailed, running inside closely followed by Isaac pulling one of his loose t-shirts over his body, quickly jogging inside in a panic.

" Where were you- "

" Call Elijah- " Lucas only wailed for Elijah while laying down the Queen on his bed.

Immediately after a blink, he felt exhausted as he had to pull himself up to stand when Aslan quickly held him up in his arms.

Feeling the King shivering due to the hold, Aslan's eyes widened.

" Your Maj- "

" Call...Eli... " Lucas wavered trying his best to keep his eyes open but the unknown energy which surged throughout his body, drained the will to stay up.

Not even after a minute, Aslan saw the King slowly giving into his arms into a deep slumber.

Aslan's yell echoed all around the castle as the once darkened castle was illuminated with lights one by one with multiple screams here and there, searching for the particular doctor, who was in between the apple trees in the middle of the night, going through an old book.

" What the hell is happening? " Elijah screamed when he was carried to the King's study by two of the most huge men he had ever seen in the castle while Isaac stormed from nowhere with all of his medical equipments in hand, looking oh so terrified yet trying to pull everything in a breath.

Aslan was panicking inside the study, letting no other people get near his King on the bed, including the old and former Royal couple, who were now standing at the corner of the chamber, totally frightened.

Once Elijah was assured inside the Study, Lydia squeezed her husband's hands gently assuring him that they'll be fine and slowly pulled him out of the chamber.

Finian breathed a sigh and forcefully pulled Sofia out of the chamber so that she could look after the children meanwhile.

Lady Oh was nervously staring at the unconscious couple, her hands were trembling whenever they raised to wipe the flowing tears while her lips moved in a soundless prayer.

" Are they- Are they okay? " Aslan gulped, his eyes jumping to the King, to the Queen and to the King back.

They were laying like logs except for Ava, who sometimes moved as if she was just sleep, winced and sometimes rarely twitched.

" The Queen is fine... She... She must be overwhelmed or frightened, that's all. But- B-but I'm not sure about the King. He's...he's not reacting to any of the treatment, " Elijah mumbled, gulping hard to try push away the unwanted opinions his overly genius mind came up with.

" Should we get him to the hospital- "

" No. " Lady Oh yelled, clutching her hands close to her heart and on the verge of crying.

" Gramma- Gramma, understand, he's...he- " Aslan couldn't get to complete or talk further due to the bubbling fear inside his heart.

He didn't want to think of any of the consequences, he didn't want to see his King lying lifeless.

He had encountered him facing civil and political wars, standing as a shield to the people of the country whenever they were in need.

He knew him as a protector for the deserved, he knew him as a hard-working labour for his country, he knew him as a great brother, spending his time by playing with his sisters.

But never once in his last 10 years of his Knightship, he had seen the King unconscious and out of his right mind.

" He's fine. He-he will be fine. Let them rest, " Lady Oh barked at her grandson and pushed him out of the chamber, followed by a confused Elijah.

" Lady Oh, we can't let them just like that... "

" We should, Elijah. They need rest and most importantly...they need each other. " her voice suddenly softened when she turned to look at her deserted grandson, who in return gave her a gaze that told her that he was aware of what she was about to do next. " Honeybear, call my Gramma. Tell her what happened, please..."

Aslan looked dishevelled when Lady Oh requested with pleading eyes. Though his heart screamed for stepping away from the King's wing, his heart ached at the experienced eyes.

Lady Oh watched him storm off into the corridor after a few minutes of struggle. She knew he'd be standing before the door until the King himself come out of it all healthy like always unless she send him somewhere.

Gulping slightly, Isaac stared at his disappearing figure and bit his lips. Soon with a sigh, he stared at the floor, defeated.

" I'll check on him, " mumbling gently, Isaac followed behind the head Knight in silence.

Lady Oh breathed, finally, in peace when she asked Elijah to stay with her for a while, outside the bedroom in the King's Study.

" Lady Oh... Di- Did our Master choose his Mistress? " The only one that was left behind with the old woman slowly raised his head, his voice was barely above a whisper as if he was afraid of disturbing any of the unknown creatures around the perimeter.

" He didn't. " Lady Oh whispered that hardly reached the medic, though he didn't miss the flight of goosebumps that ran through his veins while they both witnessed the magical sight around the Royal couple inside the bedroom.

The sparkling lights of the night, the heliosa flowers slowly sneaked inside the dimmed chamber, lightening the space along with the moonlight when the cold lights slowly started swarming over the King when Ava's hands flew up and rested on the King's stomach automatically. She clutched his cloth and pulled herself to the King's side for his warmth.

Elijah saw her snuggling to the older with her head pressed to his arms as if she found a comfortable position. He found her slowly calming down and even after five minutes, they didn't see her wincing around in sleep.

" He didn't choose her... He found her. "

Elijah gasped, unable to tear his eyes away from the couple. He wasn't sure if Lady Oh had purposefully dragged him and pushed everyone outside the study for the King and Queen to be alone with nothing but magic.

And just like that, as if he knew by heart, once the numb body of the King slowly flattered with the soft breathing over his side, his hands instantly found the small frame of the Queen and pulled her furthermore into him as if she wasn't practically pressed over his side already. With a content sigh, they both fell asleep, oblivious to everything around them.

" What the hell is happening here? " Elijah shrieked in a whisper, his heart racing out of his rib when the soft lights of the heliosa flowers encircled the room, filling the couple with the warmth and the needed magic.

He was, of course, knowledgeable about the certain flowers and had been thought that they were the way for the lost ones. But this sight was something magical and wordlessly horrifying to him.

" You don't understand, do you? " Lady Oh dryly chuckled, wiping her tears off with a swift smile, saying: " They are mates, Elijah. Heliosa is the Sunlight of the Nights. It becomes a new path for the one who lost their previous one. They had found each other after a long battle of living different lives without knowing each other... "

After a long day of sleep... It was Ava, who gently wiggled inside the stronghold around her petite form, close to something warm in the air-conditioned room. Her eyes slowly fluttered open to the beautiful view of the evening sun slowly running down to the lap of his mother to get a peaceful break from his day duty.

It was only after a few minutes, Ava realised where she was in as she slightly squinted her eyes around the familiar bedroom of the King in his study chamber.

Even breathing behind her neck now gave her a prickling feeling running down her spine that made her slightly mumble some incoherent words that were only some puffs of air and nothing. Her eyes were screaming to shut off again to just run back to the most peaceful sleep ever.

After a long debate with her own eyes, she finally came to her sense and jolted out of the hold, with nothing but her deadly anxieties crawling through her bones. She turned around immediately stepping back to the wall for support before staring at the peaceful sleeping face of the King on the bed.

Ava's deep panting only was the sound that she recognised for about five minutes until Lucas's limp body slowly shuffled and he opened his eyes, looking completely exhausted.

He stared at her in silence.

Ava's breath slowly subsided to ease before Lucas's eyes gently closed again as his posture grimly slackened to the mattress.

She didn't know what was wrong with the man that his eyes were so tired and sore. After calming down with a gulp, she waddled to the mattress and touched his cheek. The touch was so gentle, her fingers were gliding over his smooth skin as featherly as possible as if to not wake him up from his slumber.

" What happened last night...? I'd never heard you in...pain... " she whispered before her eyes slowly closed as the tears made their way down without requesting their unwanted presence.

On struggling to breathe with a lump forming inside her throat, she stumbled to her feet and shakily tried walking to the nearby door, hoping for it to be the washroom.

But it wasn't even a minute or two that Ava marched back immediately at godspeed hearing the loud groan from the King.

***

" Are they awake? " Elijah asked the King's Knight standing before the King's study with a hardened face closely accompanied by the Queen's Knight on his side.

Aslan closed his eyes feeling Isaac's fingers barely brushing past his as if he was trying to show the other Knight a sense of warmth before answering Elijah's question with a head shake.

He nodded understandingly, rubbing his temple a bit before sighing out loud at the silent general.

" Aslan, I know you're worried. But it's already late. You should go rest for some time. "

" No. I'm fine. " Aslan's face darkened as he averted his gaze from his friend and continued guarding the closed door, the warmth that barely surfaced for a few golden moments slipped right between the gaps of his fingers.

" It's okay, I'll... We'll manage. " Isaac mumbled, assuring Elijah with a gentle nod and turned to look at Aslan- who already was staring at him- only to find him quickly turn his head away.

Elijah sighed giving Isaac an apologetic look after noticing the Knight's reddened eyes.

" Isaac- "

" We're fine, Elijah. Trust me, I'll take care of him. " pressing on a nerve inside the older Knight, Isaac breathed, now, calmer than ever. " The King and Queen will be alright- " he added soon, not wanting to be the centre of attention for the older Knight when his assurance was soon interrupted by a loud groan from inside the study which didn't let Aslan stand still for an extra second as he was long gone inside the room before Isaac hurriedly turned to stop him.

" Sh*t- "

He gritted his teeth, running inside the chamber only to stop midway when he saw Aslan right before the bedroom staring at something.

There over the bed, Ava knelt beside Lucas and cradled his face with her gentle hands, assuring him with soft words as if he was really a baby, putting him back to the comfort of sleep.

" They're mates for sure... " Panting hard behind them, Elijah mumbled to himself as he saw how the rays of discomfort over the King's face slowly faded into a facade of calmness after her gentle touch.

Isaac's eyes widened as he whipped his head towards the dude and found him slowly nodding and also signing them to let the couple alone.

This time it wasn't hard for Aslan to step out of the room as taking in the sight of both the King and the Queen like that was enough to control the raging tiger beneath his human facade.
