Sometime after the whole weather crisis with Lugia and the three Legendary birds, Cora, Alain and Mairin had arrived on an island called Kumquat Island, where Cora and Alain could obtain their fourth and final Orange League badge.
"Just one more badge." Cora smiled.
"Espeon!" Kilala smiled.
"What is this island about?" Mairin asked.
"From what I've read; apart from having a gym, Kumquat Island is famous for its luxurious hotels, beaches, and hot springs." Alain informed.

The gang got off Rory and then began to explore the island.
"This place sure is packed." Cora commented, looking around.
"Like I said, it's famous for its luxury resorts." Alain pointed out.
"Hey, can we try the hot springs?" Mairin asked.
"I don't mind but I would like to know like where the gym is." Cora answered.
"I can help with that." A female voice said, from behind them.
The gang turned around, seeing a middle-aged woman with shoulder length red hair and blue eyes, she wore a long dark blue dress with a yellow and green long sleeve coat over the top. Cora knew that this was Luana the Kumquat Island Gym Leader.
"Um, who are you?" Mairin asked.
"I'm Luana Ryuchin. I'm a Manager of Hotel Ryuchin and the Kumquat Island Gym Leader." Luana introduced herself.
Cora was delighted when she heard that. "My name is Cora Joy," she said, "and I wish to have a gym battle with you for my fourth and final Orange League badge."
"I'm Alain Sycamore and I wish to battle you for my final Orange League badge." Alain introduced himself.
"I will accept your battle Cora and we will have it tomorrow. Alain, we'll have a battle the day after Cora's. Also, I propose a double battle." Luana accepted, "So I suggest you three spend a night at my hotel."
Cora, Alain and Mairin agreed to the offer right away, and Cora had to agree too; she couldn't beat that. Just then Cora noticed that an Alakazam was standing next to Luana.
"I take it that Alakazam is yours?" Cora asked.
"That's right," Luana replied, "and my battling partner."
Cora knew that Luana was also going to use Marowak with her Alakazam in the gym battle tomorrow.

Luana led the to her luxury hotel. Apparently, it was not only her hotel, but it was also where she held the gym battles. And it had rooms where both Pokémon and their trainers could relax. Luana offered the gang the night in her hotel's most exquisite suite for free of charge. And right now, the gang were enjoying the hot spring.
"So Cora," Mairin said, "What two Pokémon are you going to use?"
"Well I decided Zunair and Emmett." Cora replied.

"Well we already know that Luana's first Pokémon is Alakazam, but why did you choose Emmett?" Mairin questioned.
"Emmett never got his chance to fight in any of the previous challenges. So I decided to take a chance with him." Cora answered, "I believe that he'll do great."
"If you're sure, Cora." Alain stated.
"Yes, I'm sure." Cora assured Alain, "I'm sure you'll do great in your battle as well." She smiled.
Alain smiled back.

The next day it was finally time for Cora's gym battle against Luana.
"Well Cora, are you ready?" Luana asked.
"You bet," Cora replied, "I'm as ready as I ever will be."
Alain and Mairin were watching from the side lines.
"I wonder what Luana's second Pokémon is." Mairin commented.
"Something tells me that Cora not worried about that." Alain stated.
Soon it was time for the gym battle to begin.
"Alright Cora, here are my two Pokémon." Luana threw two Pokéballs.
Luana's two Pokémon turned out to be Alakazam and a Marowak. Cora sent out Zunair and Emmett.
"Okay Zunair, use Confuse Ray on Alakazam! Emmett, use Water Gun on Marowak!" Cora ordered.
Zunair's eyes glowed blue and Alakazam became confused. Emmett shot a stream of water from his mouth, and it hit Marowak directly.
"Alakazam! Marowak!" Luana called out.
"Zunair, Shadow Ball! Emmett, Water Pulse!"
Zunair opened his mouth and created a black and purple ball in front of his mouth. Then launched it at Alakazam. Emmett creates a huge blue ball of energy in between his hands. He then throws it to the ground, making water hit Marowak and sending it back. Both attacks hit Luana's Pokémon.
"Alakazam, use Psybeam! Marowak, use Bonemerang!" Luana ordered.
Alakazam and Marowak launched their attacks.
"Zunair, use Protect!" Cora called out.
Zunair jumped in front of Emmett and a green colored barrier protected them from Alakazam and Marowak's attacks.
"Zunair, Emmett, Double Dark Jet on Alakazam and Marowak!"
Emmett covered himself in water and created copies of himself as he combined his attack with Zunair's Dark Pulse attack and their attack hit both of Luana's Pokémon.

"Wow," Mairin gasped, "What a combo move!"
"So she used Emmett's Aqua Jet combined with Zunair's Dark Pulse. Interesting." Alain commented.
"Cora gets more amazing each time she battles." Mairin admitted.
Alain nodded, "Yeah."

"Marowak, use Bone Rush and you use Psybeam again, Alakazam." Luana ordered.
Marowak headed straight towards Emmett as its bone glowed light blue and grew longer while Alakazam's Psybeam attack headed towards Zunair.
"Zunair, dodge and use Swift! Emmett, dodge and use Aqua Cutter!" Cora commanded.
Zunair dodged the Pysbeam attack and launched stars from his tail which hit Alakazam. Emmett crosses his wings in front of his body and opens them up quickly, releasing multiple aqua blue 'X' shaped energy from his wings at Marowak. Both those attacks made Alakazam and Marowak faint. So Cora was the winner of the gym battle.
Cora hugged Zunair and Emmett, "You two did great. I'm so proud of you." The two Pokémon smiled.
Luana returned Alakazam and Marowak and walked up to Cora.
"I must say Cora, that was the best battle I ever had, and you did a very good job. So as proof as your victory," She held out a grey conch shell, with a small yellow gemstone, "The Jade-Star badge."
"I finally got all four Orange League badges." Cora said happily.
"Then that means you can enter the Orange League on Pummelo Island, Cora and you must defeat the leader of the Orange League to win. And I must warn you, he won't be very easy to beat." Luana informed.
Cora smiled, "That's okay with me, because I like a tough challenge."

Alain was the next one to face Luana. He went against her Hypno and Rhydon. He brought out his Empoleon and Shiny Zoroark. With some difficulty, he managed to beat her which Luana was impressed by his battle skills. With the battle won, he was rewarded with the Jade-Star badge.

So with the Jade-Star badge obtained, the gang said goodbye to Luana, and left Kumquat Island for Pummelo Island, so that Cora and Alain could finally enter the Orange League.
