Chapter 29: Necklace Revelations
Lily's Point of View
The next day thankfully was a Sunday. After spending all day dress shopping and helping Harry practice more advanced spells, I completely forgot to do any homework. There was one more thing we had to do though, and that was tell Dumbledore about Nikki and Bella's necklaces. "Are you ready to go?" Hermione asked me as she walked down the steps. Harry was coming along as well.
Ron and Hermione had a little bit of a 'fall out' the other day. We were talking about dates. Ron was talking about how he couldn't find anyone to go with and asked how everyone kept getting dates. He then, very rudely, turned to Hermione and pointed at that she was a girl and they should just go together. Hermione found it really insulting how he assumed no one would think to ask her. He even repeated it once she stormed off. Harry and I were a bit torn between the two. I went after Hermione that day. Ron hasn't really come around us since. Even though Hermione wouldn't tell me who it was, I knew she had a date. Hopefully it was someone good too, to prove to Ron that she could easily find a date. I knew it hurt her though, because deep down she really liked him. It was weird to think Bella had a crush on Ron herself when we first met everyone, now they couldn't be more opposite.
"Yup," I said jumping up to my feet. Harry met us right after that and the three of us went to Dumbledore's office. Alaina was going to meet us by the time we got there.
"Lily, Hermione, you'll never guess what, I'm going to the dance!" Alaina sang skipping over to us.
"That's great Alaina," Hermione said happy. "I'm glad you're coming."
"With who?" I asked me sister, happy but also jealous she managed to get a date before me. I was still praying Harry would ask me.
"He's a fourth year Ravenclaw, Gavin I'm sure you know him," she said and I nodded recognizing his face.
"I'm so glad you're coming," I said to her hoping Harry would hurry up and ask me. "Should we go inside now?" The other three nodded. Harry muttered the password and the four of us went up the staircase as the Phoenix twisted in the middle. We had Harry knock at the door, being that Dumbledore and he were closer than the rest of us.
"Come in," a voice called and Harry opened the door. Dumbledore smiled as the four of us entered into the room. "Welcome, lemon drops?" he offered holding up a bowl and we all took one. "Have a seat. May I ask the purpose of this visit?" We sat down on the chairs in the room. Alaina and I just looked over at Harry and Hermione, hoping they'd say something.
"Er, yes sir," Hermione began saying. "We discovered that there were dangerous, dark magical artifacts on school grounds, and figured you should know." Dumbledore sat up a bit. "Nicolette Eclipse and Bella Stone, have these identical heirloom necklaces that were said to be passed down by Slytherin himself."
"Yes, I've heard of them," Dumbledore said darkly. "Did not know if they still existed. The Ministry was supposed to have taken care of those years ago. Are you sure? This is a very serious matter."
"Positive sir," Harry added in. "We read the excerpt from a book on Salazar Slytherin and Hermione researched the Eclipse background, which was said to have been given one."
"And it shocked me, sir, when I touched it," I said, hoping to know we weren't just accusing them without actual proof. "Back when we first found it. I touched it and felt as though I was being electrocuted. Then Bella touched it, and she was fine. But I'm a half-blood and they're both purebloods, so it wouldn't have effect on them anyways." Dumbledore nodded in deep thought.
"And fatal to muggle borns..." he added. "This is very serious, thank you for bringing this to my attention." We stood up to go. "Wait here, I'll have Professor Snape come alongside the two girls." We all shared a look...Bella and Nikki were going to be pissed. They'd probably be expelled for this, they'd never forgive us. Dumbledore left to call for Snape. My heart was beating a million miles a minute.
We waited in silence, none of us really knew what to say. Snape would be here any minute with Nikki and Bella. When the door opened my heart fell out of my chest, and I turned to see Nikki and Bella walk in, glaring at us all. They didn't look frightened though, which concerned me. I mean, I'm positive they didn't know exactly what the necklaces did, but if I was called to the Headmaster's office I'd be frightened myself. Around their necks hung the matching necklaces. Dumbledore stood up as they entered. "Good day," Dumbledore said politely. "A concern of dark magic has been brought to my attention," he said looking at Nikki and Bella. "Would you two mind removing your necklaces and placing them onto the table?"
Bella and Nikki looked at each other before taking off their necklaces and placing them onto Dumbledore's desk. He took out his wand and muttered an enchantment. The necklaces rose from the desk and lit up in all different colors, but gently fell back onto the table as Dumbledore lowered his wand. "I see nothing out of the ordinary," he announced. "Severus, would you double check for any signs of dark magic?" Snape nodded and stepped over to the necklaces.
Snape spent much longer, muttering various spells and enchantments at the necklaces. "Nothing," Snape said dully while turning and looking at us. "Replicas of the originals, I assume? Sometimes when items are confiscated by the Ministry, the families would replicate them for pure memory and tradition. Harmless," he added to Dumbledore.
"I swear we weren't lying," I added quickly, there was something wrong with those necklaces! "I'll prove it too you," I said taking a deep breath and walking over to pick up the necklace. As my skin made contact with the silver I expected to feel the shock but...nothing. I turned to look at my friends embarrassed.
"Well if you four are down with your rumors. I'm sure we all have much more important things to be doing with our time," Snape said turning and leaving the room.
"You may go," Dumbledore said to Nikki and Bella. "Thank you for coming." They nodded, but as they stepped out of the room they both quickly turned to smirk at us, as if they had gotten away with murder.
"Sir, we weren't lying," Hermione said.
"I understand your intentions were good, but the Ministry spent a fine amount of time riding of those necklaces. Severus was probably right," Dumbledore said. "Now, off you go." We all looked defeated as we left his office. I know we weren't wrong, they must have done something to cover it up. I would find it out.
Bella's Point of View
"You my friend are a genius," I said as Nikki and I stepped into Slytherin house. Once we found out about our necklaces, we knew they would go crying to Dumbledore about it eventually. We didn't want to risk such giving up rare heirlooms so Nikki suggested we make our own replicas.
"I know," Nikki replied with a smirk. When Draco copied the page in the book about her family, Nikki got the idea to copy our necklaces just in case. After practicing a duplicating spell, we were able to make two identical copies of the necklaces and hide the real ones. They were hidden where no one would find them in an invisible pocket in Nikki's trunk that could only be seen by someone who knew it was there. It was the perfect plan.
Draco was waiting for Nikki by the fireplace. We went our separate ways. When I stepped into the dorm, a few other third years were there including Britta. "Out," she commanded at the rest of them, "Now. You can come back in five minutes." The two girls glared at her but listened and thankfully left the room. "You're back." She smiled. "Meaning you didn't get in trouble?"
"Of course not," I said sitting down on my bed stroking the fake necklace.
"Excellent," Britta said. "So the real necklaces will be kept safe, until necessary that is."
Nicolette's Point of View
"So they're not shipping you off to Azkaban I suppose?" Draco teased. I sat down on the arm of the chair next to him and kissed him quickly.
"Nope," I replied proudly. "Those duplicating spells really do come in handy. I just can't believe those bitches were going to turn us in." I shook my head. I couldn't believe they would do that to me when they knew how much I dreamt of being at a place like Hogwarts. Now I had another reason to hate them. "Remind me why I was ever friends with them again," I added dryly. They could have easily ruined my life right there.
"Because you didn't know me at the time. Obviously," Draco replied. "And I still can't believe your a Parsletongue. My father owled me back this morning by the way. He was shocked as well. He learned about the Eclipse family a while back from his parents but forgot about it. It all adds up now." He shook his head in amusement. "My family wants to re-meet you. The last time doesn't count." I still remember meeting Draco at the Quidditch World Cup. Everyone warned me not to trust him, and they all turned out to be wrong. They were the ones who were planning on backstabbing me in the end.
"I'd love that," I said. "Too bad we lose our Christmas break with the Yule Ball." Everyone attending the Yule Ball had to stay at Hogwarts for break. It was going to be fun having nothing but free time around here, but it would have been a good time to meet Draco's family.
"Well what about summer break then?" he asked me. "Bella is already invited to stay over break if she doesn't want to return home. You should come as well." It wasn't like my parents cared too much. I bet they were loving not having to worry about leaving me home when they went on all of their work trips. They could use a summer vacation too.
"That sounds like a great plan."
