Gojo often didn't depend on people. Or rather, he didn't think anyone would be interesting enough to depend on.
Being in school, having a job, and just living life was all he needed. Yeah, of course he had acquaintances. A lot of them to say the least, but none of them were people he really cared to be with.
He gets invited places, but his ego never lets him live down the fact that he instinctively wants to be better then everyone there. Gojo lives on a cocky pedestal where he breathes to prove himself better then the best.
When he met you for the first time however, none of those feelings rushed into his head. Instead, his initial reaction was to help you because you looked scared. Not to pull moves on you. Not to seem more respectable to his peers. Simply to help.
Well, that may be a lie, he did want to pull moves on you. He has to admit that he could barely take his eyes off of you. Honestly, he's not one to really care about someone at first sight, but you incited a feeling of comfort within him.
But then he got too confident, too loud, and yelled about taking you on a date. It was honestly a shock when you said yes, but he still lit up with excitement.
Now he was expressing that excitement to Nanami, who looked about one word away from slamming his skull into the counter.
"And so that's why I'm taking the day off!" Gojo concludes loudly, pointing his thumb at himself.
"Gojo, I really don't care. Just please don't draw away customers with your loud antics." Nanami replies, rubbing his temple and glancing at the customers who were looking at the two with confusion.
"As your elder, I will be your roll model and teach you how a true date works!"
"No, you won't do that."
Gojo goes to quip back but is interrupted by the bell over the door ringing quietly, signaling a new arrival. He looks over his shoulder to see you walking up to the counter, putting your earbuds in your pocket as you walk.
"Oo~ Nanami, Nanami, they're here." Gojo whispers excitedly.
"I can see that."
You walk to stand next to Gojo, throwing up a hand to wave, "Hey. Are you ready?"
"I should be the one asking you." The white haired man replies.
"Well you're just not quick enough then. Minus points."
"Minues points?! What?"
You just smile, turning to Nanami, "Hey, I'm Y/N. I'll be taking this dork off your hands for a while."
"Thank you. So much." He says, nodding.
Gojo watches the exchange with an open mouth, swiveling his head to look between you two.
"Why are you all buddy buddy now?"
You turn your attention to him, "I'm being polite."
He rolls his eyes, "Whatever. Let's go! I have things to prove!" Grabbing your wrist, he tugs you back toward the enterance.
Once you get outside, you say, "What if I wanted a drink while we were in there? Minus points."
"Hey!" He pouts, "That doesn't count."
"Yeah yeah, I'm just joking."
Gojo's smile returns, and he looks down at his fingers that were still wrapped around your wrist. Quickly, he moves his hand down to lace his fingers with yours.
You look down with shock, but shrug and tighten your fingers around his in response.
"So! Where are we going?" You ask, swinging your clasped hands as you both start walking in the opposite direction then you went yesterday.
"You'll see, you'll see."
"Does it have to be a suprise?"
"Yes! Suprises are always better."
"You don't have to act all wise, old man."
"Ah, but I am wise." He gloats, tilting his head up to the sky and smirking.
You laugh, "I'll take your word for it."
Looking around the scenery, you're glad that he seems like a good conversationalist. He can take most of the reins and you can just listen in, adding in quips here and there.
Gojo likes when people let him talk, and actually take him seriously. He knows that he's a very extravagant and outgoing person, so being able to talk comfortably like this felt wonderful.
Maybe you were simply refreshing to him, and that's where the attraction to you is coming from. No, that doesn't make sense. Maybe he just actually likes you. A pure adoration that he hasn't felt in years.
Interesting how that works.
He startles randomly from his thoughts, turning his head away when he realizes that he's been staring at the side of your face. That shit's embarrassing.
You laugh, causing him to turn back to you again.
"I wouldn't take you as someone who gets embarrassed about staring." You say.
"I just got caught up in your beauty."
"That was really bad."
"You know what's also bad as hell? Me."
"I'm choosing to interpret that in a negative connotation."
"Oh, we're here~" He starts, unclasping your hands and throwing up jazz hands next to him.
You look at the sign, "An arcade, huh?"
"Yes! This is obviously the perfect place to prove myself."
"We'll see about that." You smirk, grabbing his elbow and yanking him into the building.
After getting your coins, which took embarrassingly long for the both of you to figure out, you set off to find your first game.
"Y/N! Y/N! This character looks like a penis." He says giggling, bending next to a machine.
"On what planet does that look like a penis?"
"Penis planet." He smiles, "That's what this game should be called."
"I don't- I don't even have anything to say anymore."
"What a coincidence, dicks don't talk either."
"But you talk."
He stares at you blankly before bending down and getting closer to your face, "Nevermind that, I have some things to prove. Shall we begin?"
You smile at him, moving even closer, "Oh we shall."
The next 2 hours are full of games, yelling, and laughing. You even managed to get weird stares from everyone in the arcade.
Gojo has to admit, you're actually better then he thought you'd be. Despite that, he still successfully blew you out of the water. It was inevitable.
You were currently flopped face first on the ground, messed up over the most recent devastating loss.
"Oh. My ego is broken. My life is a broken trench of despair." You wail sarcastically.
He laughs at your antics, bending down and throwing you over his shoulder. Apparently he just loves demonstrating his strength.
As he walks toward the prize center, the stares are minimal, everyone being used to it at this point. Whenever someone did look, Gojo would smile as wide as he could just to make them uncomfortable.
"Ugh, let me down." You say, hitting his back lazily.
"Nu-uh. I'm getting my prize first."
You can't see anything, so you just let your body completely relax, listening to the cashiers confused voice.
Soon enough, Gojo grabbed the bag from the cashier, walking back the other direction. Once you got outside, he finally set you back down on your feet.
"Stop carrying me places, it's not good for my mental health at this point."
"Ah, you love it."
"I don't know about that."
"Besides that!" He says excitedly, "I got you something."
You look down at the bag he's shoving in your direction. You grab it, pulling out the objects inside.
Two cheap ass crowns. Interesting.
"I thought we could match!" He takes one out of your hand, placing it on his fluffy hair. He then takes the other one, placing it much more carefully down onto the crown of your head.
He laughs, grabbing your hand and pulling you to a nearby bench, pulling his phone out in the process.
"Let's take a picture!" He says, putting the camera out in front of you.
You both smile, pressing your cheeks together and you throwing bunny ears up behind his head. At least you'll win at something.
"Lemme see." You say happily, leaning over his shoulder to look at the screen.
It's... actually really nice.
Your faces are bright and cheery, your own eyes are closed while he's staring dazedly at the camera. Of course, he had the same idea as you, since there's a peace sign sticking up behind your head as well. Fucking cheat.
You continue to stare at it softly, and Gojo takes that chance to look at you. He likes the sight of you so close to him, crown displaced and a comfortable look on your features. Maybe he just liked to feel like he has no restrictions, and that's what you're giving to him.
You look up, gazing at him a little lost, "What is it?"
He smiles wide, "Just admiring your beauty."
"Shut up, handsome."
"Ah~ I got a compliment back!"
You groan, resting your head down on his shoulder. You have to admit that he smells really nice. Not too expensive, sharp, and fresh. It felt safe.
"Hey Y/N?" Gojo asks, resting his head on yours after taking off your crown.
"Yeah?"
"Can we do this again sometime?"
"Of course," You laugh, grabbing his hand in yours, "Just actually give me your number this time."
Of course he agrees to that.
After exchanging numbers and parting ways, he remembers that he forgot to ask you something. Pulling out his phone, he decides to send you a message.
Gojo: Did I prove myself yet?
Y/N: Almost.
Gojo: Only almost? :(
Y/N: That's farther then anyone else has ever gotten... and I want you to go farther.
Gojo: Then I will. You best believe it!
(My writing looks like a fucking 10 year olds. The entire time I was writing this I was like, "Yo, you're really emulating the fics you used to read years ago." and I'm honestly not that mad about it. It's a comfort thing I presume.)
