[Third year high school, 1998]

Sungyeol's POV

"Mom, I'm going," I shouted for mom to hear after I finish tying up my shoelaces. I went back inside all the way to our kitchen and to the fridge to search for an apple.

"Mom, do we still have apples?" I shouted once again not knowing that she's already right beside me.

"Ne.. It's inside the drawer for vegetables," I heard her say. They are there indeed. I got two and slid it inside my bag.

"I'm going mom," I said as I zip my bag and slid the slings on my shoulders.

"Here, take these too. I'm sure she'll like those," she said and unzipped my bag to put the a container full of green grapes inside.

"Gumawo eomma," I said and kissed her cheek. I went out of the house and readied my trusty 'buddy' for three years bike.

"Don't hang out in there for too long. You might be late for school," she said, standing on our doorstep.

"Ne..." I smiled. I hopped on my bike and waved her goodbye.

Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Lee Sungyeol, a playful but loving high school student. Let's not talk about how I do at school for I'm just an average guy who pass each semester.

As of popularity? Well let's say that I have the looks. I belong to a group at school who girls go gaga whenever they see us.

I turned my bike on the opposite direction where my school is. Where am I going right now? To my bestfriend who lives in Mr. Choi's farm.

"Good morning, Mr. Choi," I greeted the beloved farmer of our little town as I park my bike near a tree.

"Here to visit again?" he asked with a smile. He's doing his morning routine. Feed his farm animals and clean the barn after.

"As always," I smiled back. I hurriedly run at the far end of the farm, up the little hill... There, surrounded by beautiful pots of flowers - who she planted, is her little house made just for her. Mr. Choi loves her so much and takes really good care of her. He acclaims himself as her real father.

The reason why she is here is the usual story. She was abandoned by her parents and left her here when she was a baby. Mr. Choi tried to track her parents and unfortunately, her parents are already dead due to an accident.

"Annyeong, Nurunggi," I greeted Iseul's golden retriever dog. He barked once like a response and I ruffled its fur.

Iseul stopped what she's doing when she heard the creaking sound of the door. She turned to face me, then she gave me her sweetest smile. She looks so perfect to me. If only her lips and complexion isn't pale due to her condition.

Yep, she has a disease, a heart disease. Her heart is weak ever since she's a baby. That's the reason why Mr. Choi takes good care of her and make sure she maintains her diet and drinks her medicine.

"Shouldn't you be at school?" she asked as she approached me. She fixed the necktie of my uniform, it must have been messed up because of the wind while riding my bike. It feels nice when she does something for me even the simplest things.

"What are you doing?" I asked as I placed my bag on the couch and unzip it to get the apples and a container of green grapes.

"Making decorations for my garden," she replied. I handed her the apple as I got near her. She just stared at it and pout her lips a bit, which I always find cute. I always bring her apples and I know that she's already tired eating those.

"Remember-"

"An apple a day keeps the doctor away," she finished my sentence and rolled her eyes.

"But I'm tired of eating those," she whined.

"It's good for you," I forcedly let her hand clasp the apple then I had a bite of mine. Whenever I let her eat apple, I always make sure to show her that I'm eating it too.

She stared at the apple like she's disgusted with it. Then she looked at me. "I'll eat this only if you'll bring me my favorite."

"Eeii~ You know those kind of food aren't good for you," I scolded her. She's referring to unhealthy snacks like junk food.

She placed the apple down on the table and continued what she's doing. "Okay. Then I won't eat it," she said, challenging me.

I scratched the back of my head. "Arasso arasso! I'll bring it after school!" I said, feeling defeated.

She jumped from joy and kissed me on my cheek. She wiped the apple on her shirt and happily eat it.

"Ah! I almost forgot," I run to get my bag and got my walkman (since the setting is 1998).

"I've got the cd of songs you told me you want to listen to," I said and handed her my walkman. She smiled widely and plugged the earphone on her ear and the other one on mine.

I stayed for a while before saying goodbye and go to school. I really want to stay the whole day but I know she won't allow me.

She envy me for being able to go to school. Her doctor recommended her to stay indoors, she cannot be tired. Too much stress and overflowing emotions can make her heart stop. I pity her for just always staying in here, not able to do what she wants. I always thought that this kind of situation just appears in a drama or movie.

I promised her to come back after my school so I waved goodbye and pedalled to school.

---------------------

"Yo!" Dongwoo wrapped his arm around my shoulder and walked with me as I enter the school gate.

"Where are the others?" I asked and as if on cue, they all ran towards me.

"Sungyeol-ah!!!" Sungkyu beamed as he shoved Dongwoo's hand for him to wrap his arm around my shoulder. Dongwoo scratched his head and turned to Hoya and is about to wrap his arm around his shoulder but he gave him a sharp stare.

We entered the school gate and girls immediately fangirled when they saw us. And as our daily routine, we smile and wave at them. Well that made all of them fangirl even more.

This is my daily life at school. How I wish school ends immediately so that I can go to Iseul and hang out with her again.
