Chapter 38 - It was a roller coaster

Start from the beginning

"I've never been to an amusement park before," Austin distantly looked at the rides, his eyes looked as if he was remembering something from long ago.

"Why?" She asked.

"My father didn't allow me to muck around. He thought that if I had time to play then I should have used that time to study or train," a memory from long ago began to resurface in his mind. He was back to his younger self looking out of the window watching the kids his age play while he sat there by himself with a book in his hand.

There was one event that he remembers vividly even to this day. It was one of the many things he could never forgive his father for. One of the tutors that used to teach him pitied him for being the only child that didn't play games. He had children of his own very close to his age, so he knew how easily lonely they felt so one day, he let him skip one of his lessons to play with the other kids, his father eventually found out and the next day he received a new teacher. Austin never saw him again but he was at an age where he understood the cruelty of his father.

From that day on, he closed that window and never dared to leave again. For years he was plagued with the guilt of what happened so when he finally challenged his father and became alpha, he sought out that teachers family and begged for forgiveness.

Austin clenched his jaw. His eyes were filled with a mixture of emotions. His figure seemed so pitiful and lonely that Amara felt a tinge of pain in her heart for him.

Like a child, she patted his back and comforted him, "It's ok, I'll play with you so don't be sad okay?"

Austin's heart warmed, his desolate expression melted into that of a tender smile and he couldn't help but once again kiss her on her cheek.

"It's alright, it's all in the past now,"

Not expecting this Amara's mind blanked. After blinking a couple of times, her cheeks burned red. Fortunately, Austin didn't notice this and pulled her towards one of the rides. He didn't want to turn their date into something sad so he quickly tried to make the atmosphere light and cheerful again. It was only a couple moments later did Austin realise the that the ride he was pulling them to was a rollercoaster ride and it was the biggest one in the whole park. He looked at the contraption which had many twists and turns and gulped 'is this a good idea?'.

It was funny to see an alpha who could fearlessly run through a battlefield with bullets being shot at him in all directions, be scared of a mere ride. Just as he was about to tell Amara that they should go on a different one, they had already reached the front of the line. Before he could even say anything, the worker had already led them to their seat and strapped them in. Knowing that it was too late to leave, Austin sat anxiously beside Amara. Contrary to his mood, Amara excited held onto the bar in front of them.

Once the worker finished buckling them up he said a quick 'have a fun ride' and walked away to his station. A minute later, the cart began to move forward. As they began to climb higher and higher the people on the ground looked smaller and smaller until they were mere dots.

Austin rigidly sat down not daring to move an inch from his seat. His entire body was tense. When they finally reached the top, Austin looked down before instantly regretting his decision. The slope was steep, it was a straight fall down with many twists afterwards.

'No no no' He tightly gripped the straps for dear life. When he felt the cart lean forward he closed his eyes and held his breath in anticipation for the sudden drop. One, two, three seconds pass but still nothing. He reluctantly opened his eyes to see what was going on when...

'Whoosh!'

Large amounts of wind slammed against his body at once. His eyes remained wide open but even with his superior senses, his vision was nothing but a blur. Screams surrounded him from all sides but due to his prideful nature, he did not let out a peep. The speed in which they were moving in was exceedingly fast and yet the five minutes the ride was supposed to last felt like an eternity.

When the ride had finally reached the end of the coarse the cart came to a halting stop, everyone couldn't help but gush at how exhilarating it was and enthusiastically talked to their friends about it. One by one the people stepped out of the cart in high spirits but a single individual remained in his seat. His face was slightly pale; his posture straight as a ruler; and his hand fiercely gripping the bar in front of him showing his protruding veins.

It wasn't that Austin did not want to move but that he was unable to. He couldn't feel his legs making it difficult for him to stand up. It was only a couple of seconds later that he unsteadily stepped out of the cart. Afraid that he would topple over by himself, he leaned on Amara for support. Inwardly, he felt a little embarrassed for having shown her such an embarrassing side of him but Amara found it strangely cute. He resembled a big, fluffy bear and which she wanted nothing to do but pat.
