THERE IS A STORY famous among werewolves, among children and parents and grandparents alike. It is shared on wintry nights, under the starry sky and around warm campfires, when the moon is at her peak and the wind, a whisper between the trees.
A story of four young wolves who formed a bond in the midst of war.
Decades have passed, maybe centuries even. The world has moved much further on. Not many remember their names or how they appeared anymore. But it's what they did, that is remembered and celebrated after all this time.
They came together, fought together and defeated an immortal creature.
Some say, a fifth pack was created after the war of the wolves. A pack so new, yet oldest of all. Some say, it was run by two wolves—a black and a white—two of the legendary four. Others say, they only helped rebuild and grow, while living a simple life away from politics. That it wasn't them, but their children who grew up and ruled after they passed on. No one knows for certain; each new spun-off version is as intriguing as the last.
But the truth remains the four were chosen by Selene, the Moon Goddess. While that does sound privileged, it also meant more responsibilities and sacrifices.
Perhaps there will come a time when the Chosen Wolves need to return with a new name and new face, but souls still the same. When their world is at war again and there is a new enemy to destroy, they will find their way towards each other, put aside their differences, unite and strive to restore peace in the land.
But until then, they will live on through this little story.
