I wrung my hands as I sat on the bed, waiting for Christopher.
This was a bad, bad idea.
It wasn't going to work.
The sound of a key card being put in the card slot made me more nervous.
Christopher walked in.
"Hey" he smiled awkwardly.
"Hi" I said from my spot on the couch.
"So...." He says
Awkward talk. Got it.
"Where have you been?" I say, trying to make conversation.
"Practising for the wedding and recording" Christopher peels his shirt off and I feel my face heat up.
"W-W-What are you doing?"
"Going for a shower, obviously"
He smirks.
I snort disdainfully.
"Anyway" I call as he walks into the bathroom, averting my gaze from his nude silhouette.
"Yep?"
"What were you recording?"
"Our new album and shooting a music video"
"Oh" He's clearly not in the mood for conversation.
"Wanna hear it?"
I perk up at this.
"Sure"
He seemingly clicks something on his phone and an upbeat song fills the empty room.
"That sounded pretty familiar" I say after the song ends.
"Yeah" Christopher steps out in a t-shirt and pants "It's sampling Rhythm Of The Night by the DeBarge"
"Oh, cool"
"Peyton" I look at him, his hazel eyes boring into me.
"Hm?"
"What happened to you?"
"What do you mean?"
"You're different"
"Yeah...." I swallow
We moved out of that town so fast I didn't have the chance to commemorate the old me.
Because I couldn't think about that.
It hurt way too much.
"Why?"
"I don't know" I say honestly "You probably changed me"
He winces
"Peyton, I just wanna say, you can take your revenge. I was stupid and childish. It wasn't you who I wanted to hurt. I'm so sorry"
"Who?"
"Huh?" He leans back
"Who was it? Who did you want to hurt through me?"
I always thought I could take whatever the world threw at me, especially after that hellish time period.
Nothing, absolutely nothing prepared me for what he said next.
