Meanwhile, flying above her went Katsuki Bakugou, Yuuga Aoyama and Mezo Shoji. She was also quickly overtaken by Iida-kun and Uraraka-san, both of which were able to use their quirks to pass easily. Reminding herself that envy wouldn't get her anywhere, she swallowed her insecurities and kept on crawling across the rope to get to each platform. Looks like she was going to be slowed down a lot just because of this part of the race.
When she finally made it to the end, she found herself in around tenth place. "Ah, I have to find a way to go faster! At this rate I'm going to lose!!"
She approached the final section of the race.
"It's a minefield!!"
Huh. Good to know. Maybe she could propel herself forward with some of those landmines... but first maybe she could make it harder for some of the others. Y/n turned backwards and opened her eyepatch while making a rectangle around her eyes with her hands, like pretend goggles. A huge, rectangular shaped portion of the soil was deleted, leaving a gaping hole in the ground that the other contestants would have to go around somehow. It was like the last portion of the race, except there were no ropes to use. 'Perfect, just what I was going for!'
"Oh, what a twist!! Y/n L/n of 1A has made another obstacle for the later competitors!"
Now that she had bought herself a little more time, Y/n was able to gather some of the mines from under the ground and pile them up. But... did she really want to do this? Y/n shook her head. She was far better at running than she was at getting blasted across the sky. She abandoned her old plan and started to sprint across the minefield, paying only barely any attention to where the mines were. She was almost at the end, when she accidentally stepped on a mine and was flung ten meters forwards and into the air, passing two students in the process. Well, at least it worked in her favour.
She made it to the finish line in sixth place.

Up in the stadium booth, Present Mic turned off the annoucement system. "Shota? Everything okay?" he said in the quietest voice he could muster. Which was actually just the normal speaking volume for everyone else.
"Of course I am. Why wouldn't I be?"
"Because you're smiling."
Shota's shoulders lowered. "I do smile occasionally, Hizashi."
"I mean, like, a non-threatening smile. A genuinely happy smile. You don't make a face like that every day, Shota." Hizashi adjusted something on the control panel. "Does it have to do with... parenthood?" he asked, grinning.
Shota sighed. "I've only had Y/n for about a month, but yes, I do feel like a proud parent, okay? Now shut up and do your annoying narration, 'zashi."
"Hehehehe! Gotcha! Alright, I'm turning on the system again. Testing, testing, 1 2 3-"

"WOW!! What an AMAZING PERFORMANCE by our first years at UA!! Now I'm gonna' let Midnight here explain the next segment!"
"That's right, lovelies~ The next segment is... " The big display screen behind the Pro Hero started scrolling through random names, too fast to read... and then stopped. "A CAVALRY BATTLE!!"
"Whaaat? I have no idea what that is!" exclaimed a blonde with cream-coloured horns next to Y/n. She was speaking in English! Y/n got a little excited at hearing the more familiar language, and turned towards the other student.
"M- me neither!" said the h/c haired girl in English, whispering loudly.
The horned girl grasped Y/n's hand in a show of comradery, and then released it quickly, giving her a curt nod.
