Chapters with negative numbers:

'Miniature' chapters that don't affect the main story line, and instead reveal more about other characters that are less talked about in the story. Most of these are set in the past.

[I'm writing this to take a break from the main story line.]

"Get out of the way!" A loud crash came from a building that had collapsed in the middle of the road.

"Seiichi!" shouted a strained female voice. "Help!"

The man known as Seiichi ran up to the woman who was stuck under a car. The damage to the city had been worse than expected. He had to get him and his wife out of here. "Kyoko! Don't worry, I'll- I'll get you out somehow!" He fumbled with his words, but was determined to save his wife. He had to.

The man tried to lift the car himself, but it was too heavy. His arms fell to his sides in exhaustion. "I- I promise, I won't let you die!" he said weakly. Looking around, he found a large metal pole laying on the tarmac. It was one of the bars from the bike racks that were scattered across town. He went to grab it, but froze once he saw a large shadow loom over him.

Trembling, Seiichi turned around slowly and came face to face with a huge villain. She had curled red horns and blood-red scales covering her entire body, and venomous black eyes that, when matched with her smirk, made it clear that she wouldn't hesitate to kill him. The man shook with every step the giant took to get to him. He grabbed the metal rod and held it in front of himself protectively, sweating bullets.

The villain's foot landed a meter away from Seiichi's face. He looked up at her devious smile, realizing that this was his end. He closed his eyes, both in fear and acceptance.

"Seiichi!" screamed Kyoko from under the car. She desperately reached an arm out towards her beloved and screamed.

The demon-like villain crushed the land in front of her ruthlessly. She lifted her foot to relish in the pain she had caused, and sure enough, Seiichi was gone. Completely gone.

Kyoko continued screaming, tears falling down her cheeks like waterfalls. Her husband was dead. Dead. They had only married a year ago. Why did this happen? She wished she could rewind time. She wished she could have done something, anything to prevent this from happening. She wished she could have been a better wife. She wished... she wished...

The woman finally closed her eyes and stopped screaming. That was enough. There was no going back. She just wanted to die. Was this what they called Give-up-itis? Kyoko's body relaxed. 'Yeah, then I'll be able to be with him again,' she thought.

As she opened her eyes to look at the broken, horrible world that took away her love and her will to go on, she realized something.

She wasn't under the car anymore.

In fact, she wasn't anywhere anymore, really.

Surrounding the petite woman was complete and utter darkness. No sound, no colour, just empty space. The only thing she could see was her own body. Kyoko got up from the ground cautiously. She looked around with a shocked look on her face.

"Is this the afterlife?" she asked to no one in particular. "Am I dead?"

Of course, no one answered the poor, confused woman. She was left all alone, to her own thoughts. Getting nervous being surrounded by complete darkness, she decided to walk around and see if she could find an exit.

As you would expect, she found nothing. But then, there were footsteps. Kyoko recognised those footsteps. 'Seiichi!' she thought. She ran in the direction she thought she heard them coming from, but didn't find her lover. Her knees gave out and she fell to the floor ungracefully.

"Is this hell?" said Kyoko, eyes getting watery all over again.

Her hands flew to her face, and she began to sob loudly. The world was a truly cruel place. Kyoko was left all alone in a void where nothing and no one but herself remained.

-

And then everything returned in a blast of colours that she forgot existed. Kyoko L/n opened her eyes in surprise, hyperventilating. She tried to calm down her gasping, while observing her surroundings hastily. Trying to ground herself, she noted the things around her. A broken car. A bent metal pole. An enormous hand print on a nearby building, and an even larger footprint on the parking lot near it. She was in the same place where he died.

She was pulled into a tight embrace. "K- Kyoko! You're okay! I'm okay. We're- we're okay!" said the person who hugged her.

"What? But I- you-" Kyoko realized that her husband was, in fact, alive. "This makes no sense. You- you died. I died. What happened?"

Seiichi only smiled softly. "You saved us, honey. With your quirk."

Her eyes widened in disbelief. "But I'm... quirkless?" she said.

Her husband shook his head. "I know. Or I thought I did. I don't understand this at all either. I just know that whatever you did saved my life, and put a stop to that villain."

"I... got rid of... the villain?" she began feeling lightheaded. "I think... I'm gonna..."

The exhausted woman's partner caught her before she fell onto the shattered glass that lay on the road. He made a circular motion with his index finger in the air and opened a portal that lead to a hospital he knew was nearby. Carrying his wife princess style, he stepped through the portal and ran for the hospital, using up all the strength he had left.

They would both be just fine, he was sure of it.
