Shota Aizawa was a tired man in his thirties who had somehow ended up as a teacher of heroes in training. He had no idea how or why he agreed to this; it was an exhausting feat for sure. Nevertheless, he still cared for his students and wanted them to do their best. That's why, when he saw you not doing your best in the quirk apprehension tests that he initiated, he was partly confused and partly frustrated.

"Why aren't you using your quirk? Why aren't you trying harder?"
"I don't want to cause trouble, sir." You stated simply.
"You'd better use it during the ball throw," Aizawa said, sighing tiredly for the fifth time today.

You went through all of the tests without using your quirk.
For the grip strength, you got a measly 30 kg.
For the 50 meter dash, you reached the finish line in 7 seconds. A pretty average score.
For the long jump, you got around 5 meters. Not bad. Or at least it wouldn't be, if almost everyone else didn't jump over the entire sandpit using their quirks, leaving you to literally bite the dust. Gross.

Finally, the ball throw came along. Aizawa grumpily stood in front of the class, on the field, and explained the rules.
"You can do whatever as long as you stay inside the circle. Try and throw the ball as far as you can. As a reminder of what I said beforehand, whoever gets the lowest score in total will be expelled."

"First: Ochaco Uraraka." Aizawa said, looking up from his tablet.
So the tests went on, pretty much all of them getting amazing scores. Then it was the turn of the second last person, who just so happened to be a kid named Izuku Midoriya. Your childhood friend who you hadn't seen for almost ten years now.

He stepped up and into the circle, sweating buckets. You stared at his messy, curly green locks in anticipation. From what you remembered, Midoriya was quirkless. You wondered how he'd approach this challenge without a quirk.

Then he threw the ball forwards, but it only landed a couple of meters away from the circle. You stared on in a bored manner. So he was still quirkless after all, huh?
Then, after conversing with Aizawa sensei for a bit, he went back into the circle for a second chance.
He lifted his arm and then swung it forward, putting most of the force in his index finger, and sent the ball flying.
Aizawa sensei looked up from his tablet and confirmed that he got it to go 705.3 meters. 0.1 meters more than that angry kid from earlier got with his quirk.
You gulped nervously. How could you top that? The farthest you've ever thrown a ball was probably around 57 meters. You couldn't even use your quirk to help you in this one!

...or could you?

Technically, if you 'deleted' the ball with your quirk, it would vanish from existence. Therefore, it would be sent to the void. How far is the void? The void is both infinite and nonexistent. And nothingness is both infinite and zero. So basically, the ball would be travelling forever and never within time and space.
That made no sense, did it? Well, you could only conduct your little experiment to find out what would happen, really.

So after Midoriya was done, you stepped into the ring, took a deep breath, and removed your eyepatch. You turned your gaze towards the baseball in your left hand and opened your right eye. The ball disappeared immediately. You closed your eye again and replaced your eyepatch in its original position. Now all you could do was wait for Aizawa sensei to tell you how far exactly the ball went, if it did at all.

You turned to Aizawa sensei as he wasn't saying anything, even though a minute had already passed since you deleted the ball.

"So? What's my score?" You asked.

Aizawa sensei looked at you, and then at the tablet he was holding, and then at you again. He turned it around so that it would project in front of him like a hologram.

It showed the symbol for infinity (∞), but at the same time kept glitching back and forth to show zero as well. Seems like you broke it.
But at least it looks like your idea worked. It produced the result that you hoped for... sort of. Maybe this would help you not get expelled?

You were so deep in thought that you completely missed all the admiring looks and shocked faces of your peers around you.

Once everyone finished, the results were projected: the people who got the best scores had been placed higher, and vice versa. You somehow got second last, leaving Midoriya's name beneath yours. Poor guy. You couldn't help but feel a little bad, since you knew from before how much he wanted to go to this school.

Right when said boy looked about ready to die right then and there, Aizawa sensei spoke up.
"By the way, I was just kidding about the expulsion. I just said it so you'd all do your best."

Almost everyone started to fuss about his exclamation in protest.

Yaoyorozu, on the other hand, started to go on about how she knew from the start, making it clear that she was quite smart. Some people complained that she should have told them. You tried to avoid the conversation, but Yaoyorozu roped you in by pulling you to her and putting an arm over your shoulder.
"You knew too, didn't you, L/n-chan? You're quite smart, after all, using your quirk like that during the ball throw." She said.

"I guess I didn't expect him to be serious, but it's not like I actually knew for sure," you answered truthfully.

Yaoyorozu seemed happy at your honesty. "You did great, L/n. Even if you placed second last."
You could tell she meant no harm when she said this, so you gave her a lopsided smile. "Thanks, Yaoyorozu."

"Please, call me Yaomomo."
