Chapter 17

A hand squeezed her shoulder gently. "Y/n.. um... g- good luck! I'm sure you'll do great," said Izuku, blushing just a bit.

And then she felt a warm hand holding her own. Yaomomo. "Don't worry L/n-chan!"

Her two closest friends stood next to her, providing a sense of comfort. Her breathing slowed down, and she blinked a few times, letting the tears she didn't notice at first dry out.

'Breathe, Y/n. It's okay. You're okay. I'm right here.' Aizawa's soft voice repeated in her head.

She had to stop crying. She had friends now. She had a dad now. Drawing in a breath, she straightened her posture. Y/n clenched her fist. 'Right, I'm here to become a hero. I can do this!'

'Mom, if you're watching, I'm gonna show you how much you're missing.'

"First up is... an anything goes obstacle course race!!" shouted the announcer, Present Mic, from above the stadium.

After about a minute of explaining, the students gathered around the gigantic doors that led to the obstacle course.

Y/n wiped her sweaty palms on her gym uniform and gulped. She was going to win this. She had to win this.To prove her mom wrong. Looking around, she noticed that there were many other students she'd never seen before, and her classmates were nowhere in sight. She was all on her own. 'Good,' she thought, since that was when she did her best work.

A loud noise rang across the stadium-- probably Present Mic's voice-- and all the students barged in front of one another, trying to get ahead of the rest for the race. Todoroki used his ice right away, trapping a large group of the competitors right at the start.

Y/n felt her toes freeze solid and panicked for a second, but then remembered that her quirk didn't work on herself, so she uncovered her right eye and freed herself from the ice. Jumping and gliding across it like when her father took her skating way back when, she raced past multiple students with ease. While she was twirling elegantly across the ice, she noticed Izuku next to her and gave him a small salute, not wasting a moment to pass him under the long tunnel. Izuku was her best friend, but he was also her rival right now. Smirking, she quickened her pace and skated until there were only a few students in front of her.

All of a sudden, a tall, bulky student covered in brown fur stood in her way, so Y/n thought fast and leaned back until she was almost laying down under him, and slid underneath the competitor with the grace of a trained (and quite badass) ballerina.

Noticing the smaller girl pass him, the student growled in irritation. Y/n stuck out her tongue in response, skating away.

Once she was out of the tunnel, a large shadow cast upon her. Looking up, she saw it was one of the giant zero-point robots from the entrance exam. Todoroki, who was in front of her, froze some of them in unstable positions, and Y/n was going to delete them to make it safer for everyone, but then she heard the bear-like student from earlier gaining on her, and decided to go under the machines by using the momentum produced from sliding on Todoroki's ice. She just barely made it by sliding underneath, which Present Mic narrated quite dramatically.

Just barely avoiding some other enemy robot attacks, Y/n made it to the next part of the obstacle course: The Fall.

"Look at that listeners!! It's The Fall! If you fall, you're out!! If you don't wanna fall, you gotta' crawl!!" announced Present Mic over the stadium speakers. 

"What the hell."

The white eyed girl's quirk couldn't help her in this one. She really did have to crawl.
