I know I mentioned that I didn't particularly care for crowds, which was one of the reasons why I pursed my lips at the sight of the mall I had just been in not too long ago with Naomi. Normally, it was fine to go and just hang out during the week since people were working. On the weekends, however, it was crowded to a point where I was uncomfortable.

Also the fact that people looked at Lucian like he was a whole ass god walking through the mall didn't help either. For the most part, people didn't really look at me. But when they did, they looked somewhat confused. Like I was the odd part of the picture that didn't belong.

"Is there anything you need," he asked, completely oblivious to the stares.

Or maybe he was used to it and it didn't phase him. Being who I was, I would have been even more uncomfortable. I'd never leave home if I looked like him.

"No," I answered honestly. "I just wasn't ready to be jumped when I got home."

He snorted, and the noise made me stop walking, my eyes widening in shock at the sound. I didn't think the man would snort, but holy crap it was adorable.

"You snorted," I pointed out.

He was still laughing. "You caught me off guard. Like I said at the restaurant...I wouldn't jump you. The plan is to get you to jump me."

That too.

I opened my mouth to reply, but stopped when I saw Kieran with another one of his vampires beside a store across the aisle. When his violet eyes moved and met mine, he immediately looked at Lucian, then back at me.

"Shit," I mumbled when he started walking over to us.

Lucian took a deep breath in, then rolled his eyes.

"Moving on to the alpha," Kieran asked in way of greeting when he reached us.

"No," I responded. "I'm not moving on to the alpha."

There was no moving on to be had, but he didn't need to know that.

"I met him not too long ago." I motioned towards Lucian with a flick of the wrist. "I asked him to come out so I could talk to him."

Also not really a lie because I just didn't want to go back to my place and fuck him quite yet. And once again, he didn't need to know that.

"I actually would like to speak with you anyway." He finally acknowledged Lucian. "It's about your missing werewolf."

Lucian raised his eyebrows. "Is a public setting a good place for this conversation?"

"Probably for the best," Kieran answered. "Mateo can take Nova where she needs to go as we talk."

Meaning I wasn't invited into the conversation. That was nice. If only he knew I was actually helping Lucian find Jason. I knew I couldn't say anything, but boy did I want to.

I just hoped Lucian would tell me after he was done.

The vampire that was with Kieran stepped up beside me, smiling at me. "Hello, Nova."

"Mateo," I greeted.

When he turned, I gave both Lucian and Kieran one last glance before following the other vampire.

"First thing's first," I heard Kieran murmur, low enough that I could barely hear, "she's off limits."

"For whom," Lucian asked.

Before I could hear the next part, Mateo pulled me into a store. It was near empty, thankfully, and was dark. I could have laughed at the choice if it weren't for the fact that I had no idea who Mateo was other than a part of Kieran's clan.

"So you're the infamous half breed," Mateo said, walking over to a wall of shirts.

"The one and only," I replied, leaning against the wall.

I never stepped foot into the store we were in. It just didn't seem like the type of clothes I would wear, and standing in there told me I had been one hundred percent correct in that assumption. I liked dark clothes, but I didn't wear graphic t-shirts often.

He didn't speak for a minute. He just walked back through the store, assuming I'd follow behind - which I did, because I wasn't sure if he was going to say something I'd need to hear.

When we got to the back of the store, I blinked rapidly at the sudden change of products. The front had been all clothes and accessories...but the back was full of sex toys and outfits.

I gained control over my reaction before he turned and looked at me.

Yep. I sure do see sex toys on the daily. No awkwardness here.

"Has he asked you to be in his clan yet," he asked.

"No," I answered. "And I would decline anyway. I refuse to be owned by anyone."

He looked back at the sex toys, touching a collar. "Interesting."

So interesting, speaking about ownership in the middle of sex toys with his fingers touching the collar like he was planning on putting it on someone.

"Hold this," he said, handing me the collar.

Like an idiot, I held my hand out and took it from him. I tried to make myself as inconspicuous as possible, my eyes as far from the thing in my hand as I could manage without making eye contact with another toy. I wasn't normally shy, but being in an area like that with someone I barely knew was not my idea of soothing.

He handed me a piece of fabric that I think was supposed to be an outfit, if the front picture was any indication.

"You can't hold these yourself?" I shook the items at him.

He looked at them, then at me. "No."

Cool.

I almost just put them back. I didn't owe him anything, especially holding onto things he may or may not decide to buy.

He then handed me a butt plug.

"I know vampires are overly sexual creatures," I said. "But isn't this a little much?"

He grinned back at me, and I assumed the answer was no.

Wow, what great company he was. In the beginning, I thought he was going to be a little more sociable, but apparently my first instinct was entirely wrong.

He finally turned and faced me, raising his eyebrows at the things in my hands like he didn't just give them to me.

"Nova?"

I deadpanned, then turned to face Kieran and Lucian with a butt plug, lingerie, and a collar in my hands.
