"why did he text you?" he paused the tv show to talk. I had already started munching on my fries at this point, not worried at all about this whole situation since Kyle really is no one to worry about

"I forgot he mentioned texting me to make sure I was okay" I spoke before shoving another ranch dipped fry into my mouth

"so you gave him your number?"

"Yes. To text me to make sure I was okay" I've gotten to the point where I don't care about talking while chewing around Michael "you know, cause I was all worked up from Marissa showing up and finding out you were keeping things from me" I know he wasn't expecting that cause he cleared his throat awkwardly

"okay"

"So I need to ask you something" I spoke up after swallowing my fry, he nodded signaling for me to continue "why didn't you tell me that you two hooked up?" I shoved another fry in "I mean you had plenty of opportunities to let me know"

"Honestly, I didn't want you to have another reason to worry about her. I mean she was already making it obvious that she was in to me, and she was already on your bad side and I didn't want you to be even more worried about her"

"So instead you made me believe that not a single thing ever happened between you two and she was doing all of that out of spite"

"I understand that I was wrong Katie, I should have told you right away, but I was scared to worry you especially after she pulled that stunt at the office" I took a bite of my very delicious sandwich, trying to keep calm to avoid any crazy arguing

"This is your last chance to air out anything else that happened between  you two, if I find anything else out I'm done Michael. I put myself through too much in my last relationship and I'm not doing it again" I spoke honestly, I kept quiet for too long and I'm not going to allow myself to do that anymore

"There's nothing else, and there never will be" I could feel his eyes on me, I dipped one more fry into ranch and threw it into my mouth before standing up off of the part of the couch I sat on and walking to where he was, taking a seat right next to him; I could see a small smile form on his face from the corner of my eye

I kicked my feet up on the coffee table before speaking "press play"

"Ready babe?" Michael yelled from the living room, just like every other morning pretty much

I was always the one that took longer to get ready but if you ask me he still looks better than I ever do. I slipped into my black heels to complete my outfit

Pretty good for a Monday if you ask me.
I walked out into the kitchen where he was waiting for me with a travel mug of coffee in his hand

"Oh my god" he gasped, startling me

"What?"

"It should be illegal to look that damn good" I threw my head back in laughter "its a hazard" he grinned as he walked up to me, placing one arm around my waist to pull me closer
"I almost dropped the coffee" he placed a kiss on my cheek

"Well I'm glad you didn't cause I need that" I chuckled before taking the mug from his hand and making my way out the door

The morning flew by, Mr Baker had me complete a few tasks for him and we got a lot of calls this morning. Typically, if a client doesn't already have the direct extension for who they're looking for I'm the one who gets the call  and then transfer to whoever they need to speak with

Mondays are typically busier but I think this is the most its been in a while, luckily I was able to keep up. I always worry about that, I don't ever want my employer to think I can't handle a position so I always do my best to prioritize and complete things efficiently

"Ready for lunch?" Michael walked up to my desk, and that's my que

Just then Nina walked up to cover the front desk for my lunch break, she's pretty much always on time and seems to be one of the more regular girls to cover me

"What are you craving?" He asked

"I really want some mac n' cheese" I smiled up at him "but not just any mac n' cheese"

"Oh really? What mac n' cheese meets your standards?" He chuckled as we stepped onto the elevator

"Chik fil a"

"Sounds like a plan" he put his arm around me, pulling me closer

"You know we should probably consider making lunches" I added, not once since we've lived together have we actually prepared lunches for ourselves

"that would be a good idea, I'm just too lazy" the elevator doors opened on our floor

"Well I'll do some of the work but you're going to help" he took my hand in his as we walked towards the car

"I think I can do that, but I still want to have one or two lunch dates with you"

"I think I can do that" I mimicked his words, earning a smile from him "so lets go get some groceries after work then"

"okay, but I never know what to buy" he shrugged

"well it's a good thing I do"

"Oh hey I forgot to mention" he broke the silence "have you ever heard of the Irving Business Ball?"

"that sounds like its a made up thing" I giggled before shoving more mac n' cheese into my mouth

"it's not" he chuckled "Its a gala of sorts"

"okay.." I waited to see where this was going

"Well its just a gala organized by governor as a way to celebrate and thank the business that keep the city afloat" I nodded to urge him to continue "Only the higher ups of the companies are invited to keep the number of people low and Mister Baker and I were invited to go"

"Oh that sounds like fun" I don't think I've ever heard of this before, but he did mention that the higher ups are the ones who go so I'm assuming I was never aware because I'm just the receptionist

"yeah it's not too bad, pretty elegant" I took a sip of my drink "anyway, I was hoping you would come with me"

I nearly choked on my drink

"I thought you said it was just for higher ups" I wiped the small amount of lemonade that managed to escape my mouth off of my lips

"It is, but we get to take a guest, and you're my girlfriend so I want to take you"

"I'd love to go, is anyone else from work going?"

"sometimes the head of each department goes but I'm not too sure who's all going" he answered nonchalantly, which is not a bad thing really. I don't think he realizes that Marissa is the head of finance, but I'd rather not start anything up right now

"when is it?" I asked

"three weeks from now" again he answered nonchalantly, but to me that was important..because in 3 weeks, Jake will be out
