TW: Attempted Suicide, talk about neglect and abuse

I watched as the clock turned to 12:00. The bell rang. I raced to the cafeteria, Darryl running after me.

He patted me on my back. I stopped walking and turned to look at him. I saw him fidget his hands. "What's up" I said raising an eyebrow.

He laughed nervously. "I was wondering if I could sit with you during lunch."

I saw he looked nervous, so I softened my expression. 'Why not' I thought 'It's my last day. Might as well make this kid happy.'

The longer I took the answer the more nervous he looked. I extended my hand to place it on his shoulder. "Sure. Why not" I smiled at him.

We stared at each other's eyes until he looked away, face bright red. I couldn't help but let out a giggle. I could feel my face red too.

'We better not get close' I thought. 'If we did he'll be upset if he finds out.'

I let out a sigh. "Follow me."

I led Darryl to the cafeteria. I didn't pack lunch and I didn't bring lunch money either. "I'll wait for you at that table." I pointed at a table will Geo, George, Clay, Vincent, and Sam. (My sister)

"Wait. You didn't pack lunch, we need to go get our food." He grabbed my wrist.

"Well, I don't have money." I said sheepishly.

He dug around in his pocket, handing out money to me. I didn't know if I should take it or not. "Take it. I don't really need to eat today."

Now I felt bad that I couldn't hang out with him the next day. He seemed really nice and it was obvious he wanted to be my friend. I frowned at the thought.

"It's fine really." I said pushing his hand away.

He looked at me and frowned. "You sure?"

"Yup."

"Alright then." He sighed and fell in line. I took a seat in-between Geo and Sam.

"Is that your new friend?" Sam asked me. "He's cute"

She was twirling her hair and stared at him. I rolled my eyes.

"Zak, are you not going to eat?" Vincent said chewing on baguette.

"Big breakfast" I lied.

"Poptarts and OJ isn't a lot, Zak" Sam said exposing me.

"It sure got me full." I said rubbing my stomach.

"Zak?" I heard Darryl from behind me.

"Hey Darryl. Can you move over Sam?" I said pushing my sister.

She moved aside knowing that if she did Darryl would be sitting next to her. He plopped down between me and Sam.

"Ooo who's this" George said

"Someone from computer science. We were partners. His name is Darryl." I introduced him to my friends for him.

He waved timidly. Sam giggled. Her laughed sounded so forced, trying to make it sound cute. "I'm Sam"

The rest of the table introduced themselves. I could feel that Darryl was tense. He'd fit in eventually. I guess he could be my replacement, joining the group the day I leave.

As I watch everyone eat, my stomach starts rumbling. I look down at my lap which my hands are place in.

"You sure you're not hungry?" Darryl asked putting a forked pierced through a chicken nugget near my mouth. I bit it off his fork not realizing how weird it was.

Silence. "Thanks." I whispered.

Before I knew it lunch was over. 1:00. 2 more classes. I smiled.

We all headed to our different classes. Time flew faster than I thought it would. I was planning to do it at a bridge. I loved the water and swimming, but I wasn't going to float up.

As it was time to go home I told Sam that I would stay back for a bit. It made me sad I was lying to her. She walked home while I took a bus to the bridge.

I got down on a bus station near the bridge and started making my way to the rails. The drop was far and the water was deep. Meaning I would be in air for a while, and I could swim deep down to finish it.

I put my hand on the rail. Something told me to wait. Don't do anything you'll regret. I stared up to the sun wondering why I wanted to do it in the first place.

I have no reason to live. I'm out of place and a waste of space. No one is living for me meaning my death wouldn't matter. Living has just become a chore at this point. This is for the best for me and others.

With that I started to climb up the rails. I felt a arm around my stomach. Hugging me. I turned around. It was Darryl.
