We all sat in the living room, the tension thick in the air as we waited for the door that had been closed before us for what felt like hours to finally open. I took a seat beside Adrian, who seemed to be engrossed in his phone, pretending to be busy doing nothing in particular. The last time I glanced at his screen, he was scrolling through his contacts, adding emojis and making random edits to their names. His grandmother and father occupied the seats adjacent to us. Adrian's father had been restlessly fidgeting, clearly anxious about the impending meeting since Mia had entered his study room, where Mia's mother had been situated due to Mia's inability to climb the stairs to their bedroom.

"Adrian," I nudged him, attempting to grab his attention.

"What?" he replied, his tone nonchalant as he kept his gaze fixed on his phone.

"I need to use the restroom," I stated, trying to hide my annoyance.

"Then go," he responded flatly, still fixated on his device.

"Well, where is it, dummy?" I retorted, unable to contain my exasperation.

"Oh," he replied sheepishly, scratching his head. "You can use mine," he offered absentmindedly before returning his attention to his phone.

I couldn't help but smack his arm, hoping to jolt him out of his detached state.

"Ouch!" Adrian yelped, rubbing his arm where I had smacked him.

"What on earth is wrong with you? I need to use the restroom urgently. All you have to do is show me the direction to the nearest one, not decide which specific washroom I should go to," I scolded, frustration evident in my voice.

"Right," Adrian nodded, his voice trembling slightly. "Forgive me. I-I'm just nervous," he stammered.

"Adrian," I said, softening my tone. I reached out and took his left hand in mine, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "You know I'm always here for you, right?"

"I know," he turned to face me, his eyes filled with gratitude. "That's why I felt your absence yesterday when we went to your apartment. Thanks for being there for me, Mari. If it weren't for you, I don't think I would have found my sister and-"

"Adrian," I interrupted abruptly, cutting off his sentence.

He looked at me, alarmed by my sudden change in tone. "What?" he asked, concern etched on his face.

"I really, really need to use the restroom," I blurted out, my urgency evident.

Adrian simply sat there, giving me a perplexed look.

"Washroom. Now!" I exclaimed, emphasizing the urgency in my voice.

"Right," Adrian shook his head, as if breaking free from a nonexistent trance. "Upstairs, second room on your left."

I wasted no time and quickly made my way upstairs. Entering the room, I located the restroom and relieved myself as quickly as possible. Before heading back downstairs, curiosity got the better of me, and I decided to take a quick look around the room.

The walls were adorned with blue and black wallpaper, creating a stylish and modern atmosphere. The floor boasted blue tiles, adding to the room's overall aesthetic. At the far end of the room, a king-size bed sat against the wall, with a large window to its right and glass sliding doors to its left, leading out onto a balcony. The windows and doors were tinted blue, casting a serene ambience throughout the space. Three comfortable couches were arranged on the opposite side of the bed, surrounding a glass table. A home theatre system, complete with a large wall-mounted television, graced the room's focal point. Adjacent to the washroom, which was surprisingly spacious for a single occupant, was a walk-in closet. A floor-to-ceiling mirror stood beside the closet, adding a touch of functionality and style. I couldn't help but wonder why a boy would need such a lavish setup. On either side of the bed, there was a drawer and table, each adorned with a lamp. A black rug with blue stripes lay in front of the bed, adding a touch of contrast. A solid oak table with an office chair stood in front of the window, showcasing a neat arrangement of books, a study lamp, a laptop, and other stationery. A small shelf on the washroom wall displayed neatly arranged books.
