"Little one?" Mr. Reynolds queried, his words carrying a hint of surprise that mirrored my own astonishment. It hadn't crossed my mind that our paths would cross again so soon, after last night's encounter.

"Sir?" I responded, my voice filled with a mix of respect and acknowledgment. "I mean, sir, from last night?"

"The very same," he confirmed, his tone laced with a touch of intrigue. "Isn't it fascinating how small and interconnected our world can be?"

"I couldn't agree more," I replied, nodding in agreement. Glancing at Mia, I could sense her confusion, though she wisely held back any questions for the moment, knowing the importance of the situation.

"Both of you are here in response to the job offer, correct?" Mr. Reynolds inquired, his gaze shifting between the two of us."

"Yes, that's correct. While we may lack experience..."

"Consider yourselves hired," Mr. Reynolds announced, his words washing over me with a mix of surprise and disbelief.

"...but we assure you..." I began to say, but halted abruptly, needing a moment to process his statement. "Wait," I interjected, my voice betraying my uncertainty. "Did I hear you correctly, or is it merely a figment of my imagination?"

"You heard me correctly, little one," he confirmed, a slight smile playing at the corners of his lips, as if he found my reaction amusing.

"But..." I hesitated, struggling to find the right words to express my astonishment.

"Consider it a token of...my gratitude," he interrupted, his tone firm yet filled with a touch of mystery. He then walked over to his desk and pressed a button. Within seconds, Miss Arthur appeared in response to his summons.

"Bring in two aprons," he instructed her without hesitation.

"Right away, sir," Miss Arthur replied promptly, acknowledging his command as she swiftly exited the room to retrieve the requested items.

"Are you certain about this?" I inquired once more, my uncertainty still lingering.

"If you were willing to give up your seat and endure standing for an hour and a half, then I am more than willing to offer you and your friend a job. It's a mutually beneficial arrangement. You earn a paycheck, and my business thrives. It's as simple as that. Consider it an expression of my gratitude for what you did last night," Mr. Reynolds explained, his conviction unwavering.

"But it wasn't such a significant act, to be honest," I pointed out, still grappling with the idea of being rewarded for something I considered small.

"Trust me, it meant more than you realize," he replied, his tone carrying a depth of sincerity. As if on cue, the door swung open, and Miss Arthur entered the room, carrying two aprons. She handed them to us with a playful wink before making her exit.

"So... what are you waiting for?" Mr. Reynolds questioned, a note of anticipation in his voice. "Get to work, would you?"

"Right, Mr. Reynolds. We appreciate everything," I acknowledged with gratitude as we exited his office. He nodded in response, acknowledging our words.

Opting to take the stairs, Mia finally broke her silence and unleashed a barrage of questions.

"What on earth happened in that office? Where did you meet him? And what did he mean by 'consider yourselves hired'? Does that mean..."

"Mia," I interjected, gently cutting her off mid-sentence.

"What? I'm just saying that miracles don't just happen out of nowhere, and..." Mia paused, searching for the right words to convey her astonishment and curiosity.
