The air filled with electricity, that sparks danced and jumped across their bodies.

The horse kicked up his hind legs, sending Kagetsu tumbling down the stairs. The world turned upside down, but his hands grasped one stair, stopping his fall. Shaking his head, he looked up.

Chains spurted out of the clouds, trapping the animal, his fear, once more. The woman above them didn't bother to hurry. The animal was once more in her grasp. She could unleash her anger its way any time now.

Kagetsu's head turned, his eyes trailing the path leading to salvation. 'If I go, I can be free of my fear.'

That thought came from his mind, yet it was so foreign, he couldn't believe it. The horse's neigh urged him to run.

And so, Kagetsu ran.

"What the meaning of this?" the woman's voice roared, tired of his illogical behavior.

His arms locked around the mare's neck.

"I'm not abandoning anybody!" Kagetsu's voice drove away the stormy clouds. "Not even my fears!"

He pulled, and the chains turned into dust with a clatter. The horse, his fear, lost its solid form, turning into an enormous ball of smoke. The light kept coming from inside it until it emerged, levitating in front of him.

The woman halted her advance, waiting for the boy to grab it.

The light called him with a sweet voice. A whisper only he could hear. He stared into its core, his arms losing a grip over his fear. Taking a breath, his hug strengthened, and the smoke gained more physical form.

One with rectangular ears, long tail, and fur all over it with yellow eyes guiding him from hell called uncertainty.

Reaching for the light, almost grasping it, he pushed it away. The glow levitated for a few moments, before it turned into a streak, heading down.

"How dare you deny me!"

The worst shriek put the thunders around them to shame. The clouds turned pitch-black that they merged into one body with a big hungry mouth.

Taking a leap of faith, Kagetsu landed on the steps, taking five of them with each jump.

"Oh, crab!"

His fear curled in his arms, pressing against his chest, and warmth spread through Kagetsu's body. Or it was because of the angry-driven hellcat behind him, who waved her spear like a flag; a very sharp flag.

The wind rushed around them, and his blood drummed in his ears. His body pushed his small heart to the limits. Leaping through a haze of clouds, he missed the next steps, free falling.

"Hold on!" he shouted, his words ripped away before they could leave his mouth.

Bracing for the landing, his feet dug into a step. It vibrated under him, and the force pushed him forward. With each long jump, he dared his luck to trip him, and so it happened.

Slipping at one, his body rolled like a snowball, losing all sense of direction. Crashing through the steps, their corners stabbed his screaming body. He didn't dare to scream to not bite his tongue off.

The lights below them got closer and closer with each second that he could feel their heat. His fear turned reckless in his arms, perhaps scared of the fall. Who said fear couldn't be scared too?

The dark clouds above them thinned as they lost the race. Kagetsu's body enveloped in fireflies and streaks of light as he turned into a shooting star.

The ghostly animal's form spread all over him, and its ends flapped like long tails of a beast. The ground got closer, and it refused to turn soft for them.

And like a shooting star, he crashed into a building with a big red cross emblem.

Freya's head bobbed up and down as she tried to resist the sleep. The last days caught up to her fast. All the cheers and positivity that she had received from Satos, burned down after she stepped out of their ranch.

Yet, it helped her to move along these days. Thanks to them, she smiled for the first time. It was only five days since Kagetsu almost drowned, but in her mind, decades ticked away, reflecting in her face.

Closing her eyes, her body swayed forward.

"Kitty!" A voice she dreamed to hear once more burst her eardrums.

Her head snapped up.

Her eyes widened like plates.

Tears spurt out as she strained her face muscles.

On the bed, Kagetsu sat. The fading sun gave him a glowing aura. His eyes blinked as if waking up from a dream.

He let go of his arms, that tried to reach for the invisible object of his worry. Stiffing a yawn, his gaze went to Freya.

"Yo," he greeted her as if nothing bad had ever happened.

Streams of tears poured from her eyes.

"Hey, are you ok—?"

Freya threw herself around his neck, soaking his shoulder, and shaking like crazy as a hiccup mixed with tears and sobs.

"Freya-chan, what's wrong?" He hugged her, slowly taking in the unfamiliar scenery.

The room was too small. There were no decorations, only a night table and a vase full of flowers with a small paper under it. Between their bodies squished the plush jester, he had helped to make for her, as if he was sleeping with it.

"Yosh, yosh." He patted her hair, brushing them with his fingers, and inhaling her scent.

"You are awake!" A nurse gasped as she came from behind the curtain. "I'll call the doctor!" Before Kagetsu could say a word, she left.

'Just what had happened?' He lowered his head.
