His eyes are focused on the road in front of us, and his hands gripping the steering wheel, his knuckles turning white.
Running a hand through my hair, I sigh, looking out the window, watching the houses pass by in a blur. I hate this, the tension.
Tapping the steering wheel with his fingers to the beat, he bites down on his lower lip, running a hand through his hair. “So, um, how have you been?”
Looking at him, I raise an eyebrow, sighing softly. “I’ve been fine. How about yourself?” My voice is low, and I can’t help but feel ashamed that we’re reduced to small talk.
He nods his head, biting down on his lower lip. “I'm okay. It’s weird, you know, being on a major record label.”
And it’s weird hearing your new album and not being able to tell that it’s you. “I'm sure that it is.” Forcing a smile, I look out the window, praying that the traffic light would flicker green.
“You know, it was for the best.” He whispers, his eyes still focused on the road ahead of us, and I can’t tell if he means our break up or signing to a major record label.
Nodding my head, I run a hand through my hair, pulling my leg up to my chest, resting my foot on the leather of the seat. “I'm sure that signing to the label was the right choice.”
Sighing, he bites down on his lower lip, beginning to shake his head only to stop. “Sometimes it gets hard, you know, with all the changes. You were always good at making sure things happened for us.”
Looking at him, I furrow my eyebrows together, shaking my head. “I didn’t do any of that; maybe you’re thinking of another girl.”
Rolling his eyes, he groans quietly, tapping his fingers on the top of the steering wheel. “I was never with another girl, Logan.”
Shrugging my shoulders, I wrap my arm around my shin. “Then what was it, Alex?” Glancing at him from the corner of my eye, I feel the tears sting my eyes, blinking to push them away.
The traffic light blinks green, allowing him to continue driving, turning onto the street that lead to my condominium. “You were too good for me, Logan.”
Raising an eyebrow, I look at him, rolling my eyes and shaking my head. “Are you serious, Alex? After four years you begin to think that I'm good for you?”
This is bullshit. It’s actually pathetic that he thinks that I'm going to accept that as an answer. It’s not fair to me anymore.
“Just forget it.” He mutters, turning into the parking spot that was in front of the entrance to the condo. “And it was four years and three months.”
Looking at him, I draw my eyebrows together. “I'm sorry for not being specific.” As soon as he parks the car, pulling the key out of the ignition, I open the door, getting out, slamming the door shut behind me.
Running a hand through my hair, I walk along the paved walkway, only to hear a car door slam louder than mine did, causing me to stop in my tracks, flinching at the noise.
