Sunlight streamed in through her windows, a rude awakening. Her whole body ached from curling up so awkwardly in the chair. Her eyes struggled to open, blinded by the sun reflecting off the clouds. She stretched out her arms with a groan, feeling her muscles pull painfully after being so stiff. Wincing, she stood, tugging her blanket tighter around herself to ward off the icy cold. Winter had finally come, and it settled itself in with an icy vengeance. Out the window, she could see a lone fox scurrying through the undergrowth, a mouse caught in its sharp teeth.

Turning away from the scene, she dropped the blanket, exposing her flesh to the cold. Shivering, she picked out her clothes for the day. Jeans paired with a big woolly cardigan and boots. She wished she still had her hat, but she'd lost it last winter and had yet to find a replacement. She tied her hair back into a loose bun, checked that everything she needed was still in her bag, put her phone in her back pocket and left.
