Mr. Petra,

Thank you for talking to me during sixth period today about planning for the classes. Following up on our meeting, here are some ideas for the Final Exam for Spanish classes:

Today in third period, Spanish II, I played some music from the album, San Patricio, by The Chieftains.  Bah mentioned that he really liked music and money.  I was thinking they could do a board or project on the 1847 result of the Mexican-American War and how Catholicism we studied in The Hispanic American Experience (by Sandra Donovan), it helped shape Batallon San Patricio.

A 2010 release, it is a musical collaboration between the Irish Folk legends, guitarist Ry Cooder and guests. San Patricio rekindles their Grammy winning partnership with Cooder, illuminating musical and historical bonds between Ireland and Mexico. The Album tells the nearly forgotten story of the brave San Patricio battalion, a downtrodden group of Irish immigrants who deserted the US Army to fight on the Mexican side in the Mexican/American War (1846-48). Features guest appearances from Lila Downs, Linda Ronstadt, Carlos Nunez, Moya Brennan, Los Tigres Del Norte and others.

Here is the track listing:

1. La Iguana

2. La Golondrina

3. A La Orilla de Un Palmar

4. Danza de Concheros

5. El Chivo

6. San Campio

7. The Sands of Mexico

The other idea would be to research events of Hispanic Awareness Month in various cities in the USA like San Diego, San Francisco, Houston, New York City, etc. Focusing on one city, the students could draw events on a carton board taking place with time, place, and event information. I saw boards like that in another Spanish class at another school, and they were detailed, colorful, and fun! Many words in Spanish too describing los eventos, los lugares, que pasa, precio de entrada, etc. Students could cut and paste photos from the website they choose and document like: https://blog.sandiego.org/2014/09/celebrate-hispanic-culture

Thank you in anticipation. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Veronica
