The moment Kim Jiwon had left the dining table, she was adamant about not returning – even considered locking herself in the comfort room until the end of the night. But Yoongi presented other plans for her.

It wasn't like him to leave gatherings, especially not when he was the supposedly star of the evening together with his fiancée. But knowing that Jiwon was not going to return anytime soon, Yoongi left. Well, not before excusing the both of them, saying Jiwon wasn't feeling well and that he'd take her home.

Jiwon had almost ran back inside the stall of the comfort room when Yoongi chuckled at her state, but he stopped her from doing so with a firm grip on her arm. She frowned at him, her lips almost in a sheepish pout. The tiniest hint of amusement rested in Yoongi's eyes, yet Jiwon knew better that he was not the type to enjoy someone's suffering.

Just a different way of expressing his emotions, Jiwon often told herself.

"Hey Yoongi." Jiwon exhaled. "Am I just making a fuss over everything?"

"You're not Jiwon," Yoongi answered her question calmly, focusing on the road.

Jiwon faked a laugh. "Wrong answer. This is the part where you're supposed to tell me I'm stupid."

"But you're not stupid," he said. "Could you tell me what exactly is wrong?"

"We're fighting time with time itself," she pointed out. "Does that even make sense to you?" Vexation leaked through her voice.

Silence. They both knew the answer to her question.

"I told my parents I wanted to cancel the engagement."

Jiwon snapped her head at him, almost getting a whiplash. "You did? What did your parents say?"

"That I should apologize and make it up to you because they thought we had a fight," Yoongi answered nonchalantly, eyes still fixated on the road.

Jiwon let out a frustrated sigh. "We're just digging our graves further by ourselves and this lie just keeps backfiring."

"But is this really what's been bothering you? Because it doesn't really seem like it."

Jiwon stared at her palms, head hung low. "Hey Yoongi," she said, barely above a whisper, "will you be willing to marry me if I decide to just give up?"

"Now you're being stupid," Yoongi responded without hesitation. "When things get hard, you don't just give up, Jiwon."

Jiwon chuckled. "You didn't answer me though."

"I didn't have to."

An empty smile lingered on Jiwon's lips. Of course. It was a no brainer that Yoongi wouldn't be willing to marry her. In the first place, he was desperate enough to escape from getting engaged, which was what led them to this predicament.

But what if?

Jiwon almost laughed out loud for even considering that Yoongi might have another answer other than a no.

"Hey Yoongi." Her disheartened voice suddenly bounced up to livelier tone.

Yoongi's brows knitted, catching the shift. "What is it this time?"

And just as he had already been confused with Jiwon's poor attempt of trying to sound a little spirited, the next words tumbling off her mouth derailed him.

"Can I kiss you?"

Jiwon was taken aback when the car screeched as it came to a deadly halt, her body almost thrown forward if not for her seatbelt to pull her back again. Eyes blinking wide, she glanced outside, then back at Yoongi. They were a few blocks away from her house, yet he stopped at an odd distance.

Yoongi took of his seatbelt, and without warning, extended his arm towards Jiwon's seat. Not having enough time to prepare for it, Jiwon held on her breath, her face heating up as Yoongi's face inched closer, and closer.

And closer.

"Don't say things you'll regret, Jiwon."

Jiwon pushed her head deeper on the headrest but to no avail. She wanted to shift on her seat, yet she sat frozen, as if all the weight of the world had took away her ability to move. Yoongi's slow, ragged breath touching her face ever so lightly wasn't helping either.

This wasn't the first time Jiwon had ever gotten this close to him. And so she wondered since when had she started seeing him in a different light. His expressions had always been a mystery to her, a riddle she couldn't solve. But now she understood how he was always thinking.

Min Yoongi had always been thinking when he was with her. Perhaps he cared more than she did; paid attention more than she did. She had been too blind with her own troubles to consider how things stood at Yoongi's end.

Did he simply had no worries of his own, or had Yoongi been keeping it to himself just to put her on pedestal?

Jiwon's thoughts halted before she could get ahead of herself.

She stared at him, as if she were memorizing his image, gaze deliberately trailing down to his lips, contemplating about how soft they could be.

But instead of merely imagining how they'd feel against hers, she decided to confirm it herself.

It started with a simple touch of the lips that lasted for seconds, like that brief moment of testing the waters before completely diving in, before she felt him move, cupping her cheek with his free hand to pull her closer. Their movements falling in sync with the rise and fall of her pulses. The kiss growing needy with the storm raging inside her chest.

But there was more to it than the way her fingers ran through his hair, or the way his cold touch sent shivers down her spine. Something more than how they'd pull away and reunite the next second as if they were each other's breath.

For the first time, Jiwon's heart was filled with warmth — with belonging. Maybe even with love.

It might not be exactly what she was getting, but for now, she decided to believe that it was.
