Down Up

There's a day we'll never forget
But seldom regret
When we cried tears no one knew of
When the pain within wouldn't wear off
And yet we acted as umbrellas in the rain
When we were at our lowest
But never let our friends know it
We attend to their bruise
While the blood from our fractures oozed

We wore sadness like a smile
And confused eternity with a while
It was hazy for us, but we told them "oh yes, I've seen"
We were vaccines
Sacrificing our strength to give them immunity
We covered our weakness with dignity
We gave them our aid
Knowing we were injured and needed first aid
We could barely hold ourselves together
But had to put family and friends in order
We were brokenhearted
But had to pour out love when the hate started

The ones closest to us never knew
We ourselves fought our demons and slew

That's what true strength means
Coming from your essence and within
Overlooking your struggles
And solving their puzzles
Oh yes! You've gotta be fit yourself to help someone.
But when you are fitted to help someone
Let nothing or no one
Stop you,
Even you,
Because greater love has no one than this
To lay down one's life for a friend
