Cody's POV

I was trying to examine the paperwork in front of me, but I couldn't focus on it. I felt frustrated because of Emily. It annoyed me that she had been rejecting me. If it was once or twice, I would understand that she didn't feel good, or she wasn't in the mood. However, it almost repeated every day. When I asked what was going on with her, she tried to avoid my question or give some lame excuses.

Getting rejected by the woman who I loved again and again made me feel worthless, and I should admit it bruised my ego as well. Why didn't she like me anymore? This kind of thing had never happened between us. So it made me mad and upset. Did I lose my charm? Didn't she find me attractive anymore? Or maybe, she found someone else. I squeezed my pen tightly, gritting my teeth. If she cheated on me, I would kill both of them.... No, just him. I couldn't hurt Emily even if she betrayed me.

I breathed deeply in annoyance and ran my hand through my hair angrily while staring at the paperwork on my desk, ignoring Tristan's curious gaze on me.

As if these thoughts weren't enough, my head was pounding. Last night, I drank too much. When I left the mansion yesterday, I wanted to go to Tristan's and talk to him, but I changed my mind. I bought a few bottles of whiskey and drank all of them alone in my car while staring at the city lights, trying to forget the pain I felt.

I closed the file angrily, breathing deeply and looked for the file which I needed for a meeting which was going to start in a few minutes, but I couldn't find it; I told my assistant to put it on my desk when I was going to the meeting with my father this morning.

"Is everything alright?" Tristan asked, placing his paperwork on the desk and gave me an inquiring look.

"Yeah." I snapped while searching the file.

Where the hell is this file?!

I frowned as I grabbed my phone and called my assistant.

"Come to my office!" I demanded angrily and hung up the phone.

I leaned back against my seat, rubbing my temple. When Tristan wanted to say something, my assistant interrupted him.

"Where the hell is the file about the Taylor project?" I snapped as soon as she closed the door. "I told you to put it on my desk." I added, frustrated.

She approached me nervously and looked at my desk, searching for the file.

"It is here, sir." She said nervously as she grabbed the file beside my laptop on my desk and extended it towards me.

"Oh... Thanks." I muttered, grabbing the file and added. "You may leave."

"Cody, what is going on with you? You don't look like yourself. Did you have a fight with Emily?" Tristan asked, concerned.

"No." I mumbled without looking at him and gritted my teeth in annoyance.

"Cody..."

I stood up quickly, grabbing the file as I interrupted him. "I have to go. I have a meeting outside." Then I stormed out without letting him say anything.

I parked my car in front of the cafe and got out of the car. I had a meeting with Amanda here. She called me this morning and asked if we could change the meeting place because she had to pick up her children from school after the meeting. So we decided to meet at this cafe.

Actually I was going to have a meeting with our co-partner and my friend, Jake, but he had to go to London urgently. So he called me and informed me that his wife was going to attend the meeting instead of him; she was his business partner as well. I knew Amanda very well; she was my classmate. Although, I introduced them to each other. It was love at first sight. Since that day, they had been inseparable. A year later, they got married after they had met. They had two children: Jordan and Jade.

I waved at Amanda, approaching her as I walked into the cafe. After greeting her, we ordered coffee and started the meeting.

"Ok, the last few changes, and the project is ready." Amanda said, closing the file.

"Yes. So we can start the construction earlier." I commented and took a sip from my drink.

"Yes. Jake will be happy about it." She informed, smiling.

"I think so. Dude is so impatient. I don't know how you manage to handle him." I admitted, grinning.

"Like how Emily manages to handle a troublemaker as you." She winked at me, giving me a teasing smirk. I forced a smile.

I cleared my throat and asked, changing the subjects. "How are the kids?"

"They keep us on our toes. Especially Jordan." She replied, amused and shook her head. "Wait! I will show you what he has done recently." She added, smiling as she placed her hand on top of mine and tapped something on her phone.

I burst out laughing as I saw what Jordan did to Jake's autographed baseball jersey.

"Jake must have got crazy as soon as he saw it." I commented, staring at the photo in amusement and gave Amanda her phone.

"You must see his expression. I can swear that his face's color changed from red to purple as fast as an angry cartoon character." She confirmed, grinning.

Suddenly, someone grabbed my glass and threw the water onto my face before I managed to see who approached us.

"What the hell?!" I shouted angrily, closing my eyes reflectively as I stood up. "Emily?" I mumbled, puzzled as I opened my eyes and saw who threw the water onto me.

"You fucking bastard! How could you cheat on me?!" She snapped, frustrated and slammed the glass on the table while I was staring at her in shock.

What the hell is going on? And cheating?

"Emily, what the fuck are you talking about? And why did you throw the water onto me? Are you crazy?" I snapped in frustration as I couldn't control my anger towards her anymore.

"I hate you. I will get divorced. I don't want to see your face anymore. You fucking cheater!" She shouted while tears were running down her cheeks and stormed out without letting me say anything.

"What is going on, Cody? Isn't she the same Emily, your wife?" Amanda asked, dumbfounded. When we got married, Jake and Amanda were abroad; so they couldn't attend my wedding and meet Emily.

I breathed deeply, clenching my fist and wiped my face angrily.

"I am sorry, Amanda. I have to go. See you later." I said hurriedly and rushed after Emily.

I grabbed her arm quickly as I reached her.

"Let go of me!" She yelled, hitting my chest as I pulled her into my chest.

"Calm down, Em." I said firmly, trying to control my voice.

"No, I will not. I trusted you. I thought you loved me. But I shouldn't." She declared, sobbing. "It is because of those romantic movies; they fool us that true love exists. A man comes and falls in love with you like you fall in love with him. And happily ever after. But it is bullshit! In reality, an idiot comes, makes you fall in love with him, and then he shatters your heart into pieces." She commented, crying.

"You call me idiot?!" I asked, amused as I wrapped my arms around her waist, pulling her closer to me. I was so happy that she was jealous. It seemed crazy that I liked it, but it meant that she still loved me.

"No, you are not an idiot. I am the idiot who falls in love with a jerk like you." She stated, pushing my back, placing her hands on my chest, but I tightened my grip around her waist, giving her a grin. "Let go of me, Cody Sullivan! I hate you. And don't dare to smile. I hate your dazzling smile and your beautiful eyes which made me get into your trap, making me fall in love with you. Of course, and your caring, kind and romantic personality which you hide under a lot of layers of arrogance. I hate everything about you." She added, sobbing.
