I thought a lot about his ex, who he'd cheated on me with for 3 years of our relationship. I knew that she must be hurting as well since he had not held to any of the promises he made her either. While there had been jealousy and anger, I didn't hate her at all at this point. I thought he had treated both of us abominably and felt as sorry for her as I felt for myself. We still checked out each other's social media even though it had been years since he'd abandoned the pair of us.
I know that occasionally,
probably, you'll think of me;
and I guess that you'll agree
– there is no more enmity;
but, to banish the old need
to satiate curiosity
proves harder yet
and history
still keeps us in its custody.
If ever you dream to be free
you'd find that you have company
and the bells that once rang sweet
have us spelled in sound defeat.
If ever you should wake from he
who charms you with his sorcery
you'd hear the chimes
that signal Time
is leaving us behind.
