Chapter 16

I get in the house and I find mom and Marco sitting on the couch talking together .

"Bella , you didn't tell me about you and art going out today" Mom says in a teasing tone.

"Yeah he took me on a date " I say smiling.

"And he brought her back home on time kate" Marco adds .

"He's an amazing boy, and so is his mother " mom says .

"Okay I'll leave you two , I have to go and get some beauty sleep " I say.

"Okay Goodnight dear "

"Yes I should sleep too , I don't want to be late for my first day tomorrow  " Marco says standing up.

"First day of what?" I ask.

"I looked for a job and got one in a convenience store near here, I'll work there until I go back to italy. " he says .

"You're going back?" I ask

"Cí , I'm already building my own casino"

"Oh "I say.

"When is your next flight?" Mom asks.

"In 2 months I'll be back before New Year's Eve " he says .

"Oh okay " mom replies.

"I should head up see you in the morning" I say to mom and Marco and while I was climbing the stairs I stopped in my tracks.

"Is bella okay kate ? She seems sad" Marco says .

Mom was quite for awhile and then took a breath out and said
"Every summer collin's family used to visit to see him and Bella , but when he passed away , they tried to take bella away from me , so I had to cut off any contact with them."

"I didn't tell her that they wanted to take her away from me of course , I didn't want her to see that image , so now she believes that we only lost contact that's all"

"Did anyone call when you arrived here?" Mom asks .

"No , but Leonardo told me when I find you, he'd want me to give his number to bella"

" Leonardo is a good kid , he used to be good friends with Bella "

"It's okay you can give her his number , Bella is now a big girl and she'll know how to handle it if they come again , and I will be by her side like I've been always " mom says with her voice cracking at the end.

"It's okay kate ,I know it's been hard for you " Marco says warmly.

"Yes Marco , But about what you said made her scared that you'll not come back " mom says.

He stays silent for awhile absorbing the information and then says ,

"Well I'm not like them , I know they didn't approve of your relationship with Collin and they only visited to see him and Bella but that doesn't give them the right to not give you a chance . " Marco says.

"I know , believe me I tried so many times not just for Collin but for bella too , but you can't keep trying to open a locked door when the key is already thrown away and gone"

I continue and went upstairs and closed the door quietly.

I didn't want Marco to leave , it felt good to have someone in the house not just anyone my brother , and he even reminded me of dad, I just hoped for the best right now.
