Book 2 Chapter 29

<<< New Post>>>

Captain Brooklynn Clark continued in his briefing to Lieutenant Rufus Whittner and his men."That's the situation here sir." Rufus sighed. "So basically I'm being handed a bunch of sheeple to protect. All they have set up is barricades which are manned by men who until you told them what to look for on the marks just let anyone who had some come in. Even more delightful they have sick animals roaming the streets and they let their kids outside?" Brooklynn nodded. Rufus rubbed his head. "How much cooperation can I expect from Blair?" Brooklynn smirked, "He says you'll get full cooperation. He even ordered his people to cooperate in the service he gave at noon today."

Rufus nodded. "So where are we staying?" "Right in this house. It's centrally located and off-grid. Part of the Renewable Energy Act. New Post was small enough that they got fully funded which is why Blair chose this place for his Christian Outpost." Brooklynn pulled out a city map. "This is the best I could get you and it's dated last year just after they finished upgrading the place because of the Act." Rufus looked at the map. New Post was situated just west of the interstate's Hood Road exit. Not close enough for it to be readily accessible from the town and enough of a drive that they weren't readily apparent to anyone on the interstate. To the south, they had the Mason River, Leech Creek, and Norbet Road which ran along the eastern boundary of New Post. The only other road that was by them was County I but again it didn't connect directly to New Post.

"Small, off the main roads. Isolated yet not totally. This has the makings of a bad cult movie." Brooklynn laughed. "Blair has just under 100 followers here. He says he's expecting more in the near future. He plans to leave the place in the care of two of his pastors. Pastor George Robins. He's 32 and Blair sent him from Black Wolf to help Flemming get this place going. Decent head on his shoulders. No charisma just a religious guy who thinks Christian living will get him to heaven. Then there's Pastor Christan Jowls. He's 23. He's the one that saw to it the four boys Flemming impregnated were safely transported to Pepepski. He couldn't face leaving them to die. According to Blair, it caused a crisis of faith to either obey Flemming or his conscience. Young and charismatic. Doesn't seem an extremist of religion but haven't heard him preach yet." Pastor Robert Doyle 49 is a different story. Rabid about his religion and a total servant of Flemming. He's giving Blair the fits. He doesn't think Flemming did anything wrong. Their Chosen One appointed him so how could he be wrong. Watch that one!"

"The other one you want to keep your eye on is Pastor Dale Roberts 25. I don't believe the little innocent act he's doing. Flemming was training these guys to be faithful followers that would do anything he told them. They don't seem to get the fact that the madness is taking him. So be careful of those two. I sounded out the guys manning the barricade and Boswell and Lawe struck me as reasonable men. They followed Flemming because that's what they had to do for their family to shelter here. You should know Boswell determines the guard. It was his idea to even have one in the first place. Rufus nodded.

Brooklynn took a sip of his lukewarm tea and grimaced. "Oh yeah, the sheeple are bringing you any coffee they find. Caffeinated products are against their faith as well as alcohol and tobacco. They only listen to their church music and attend church three times a week. Fortunately, you're not expected to comply with the restrictions of their faith. They just ask that you don't wave it in their faces." Rufus laughed. HQ supply set us up with some. It's in the truck with the rest of what they sent with us." Private Joe Moore walked in and grabbed the coffee pot. "They found some. Flemming had the coffee hidden in one of the church storerooms. Pastor Christian remembered it being stored there."
