Simplicity In Words
Gripping cold bars,
Smiling from afar as scenes unfold,
Wishing on a star as your pain is told,
Leaving your soul ajar as you yearn for someone to hold.
The littlest things are what we depend on;
The chirp of the mocking bird in the early sunrise,
The setting of the sun with all its blues and pinks and purples,
The softness of a blanket by a burning fire,
The sweetest laugh of an innocent child at the park.
A memory is what we look back on;
Having a cup with your grandmother,
Sharing a book with your mother,
Showing your sisters your art,
Laughing at a putt with your grandfather,
Causing mischief with your brother.
Don't forget the simplicity,
Don't forget the compassion,
Don't abandon welcoming arms,
Don't abandon the friendly smiles.
That is what makes it worth the while,
And when you lay there one day,
Reminiscing on your past,
You will know that you never did let go of the marvels, the ideals, and the hopes with high dreams,
You'll fall peacefully,
Knowing fully that you made the journey well,
That you've reached the end of the dirt road and it's time to turn,
That you've made many proud,
With the soul of a kind heart.
In these words,
In this simple poem,
Both must come to an end,
And with both,
They rest happily.
Thank you to LoveThisKaitlyn for making me feel like a good writer. I'm thankful. Perhaps one day, when and if I become a writer, I'll write about you. I'm so glad that I can call you a friend, considering that I don't have many. Well, I don't have many that I allow them the privilege to read my writing, for it's dear to me, and I worry that I disappoint people. And to be completely honest, I don't even let my mother read my work.
I want to dedicate this poem to you, LoveThisKaitlyn . I know that this poem may not relate to you in any way, but the dedication is just a symbol of how truly grateful I am of your input.
