Raë and Æsh had streamed through many lifetimes together, but in this lifetime, they were going to meet on the first day of school.

*

It was a jungle in the sky, in the heart of a lush mountain-range on the south-western flank of the Indian peninsula, at a forest hill-station (still teeming with wildlife), called Kodai. The school, perched on a hill, overlooked a wide-splayed lake. It had a large campus with rolling lawns and grey stone-buildings laden with ivy and punctuated with flowers and sunshine.

Raë was a boarder at the International School. It was her last and final year.

Raë was a cocktail of genes. A genetic mixologist's dream. A New Yorker by birth, she was a hybrid of 6 ethnicities from different hemispheres of the world. She drew from this gene pool as and when the mood struck. One could never tell when a proclivity would flare up to surprise her.

Sublime at seventeen, her eyes held curiosity with dignity. Her hair was long and wild; her spine straight as though held up by the sky.

She was Raë 1/6th.

Female, feral and fierce.
