I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Watching the horrified expression of my father and the neighboring Alpha, I knew we were moments away from the dam breaking. My pack was going to drown.
"Darla, Darla!" The beta of the pack grabbed my arm. He bent down and looked me straight in the eyes. "When I tell you to run, you run! I need you to go as fast as you can to the top of the Pack House."
I looked over at my father, our Alpha. Tears begin to stream down my face as he looks over at me from a distance. His voice confident but his eyes were telling me another story. "Daddy!" I reach my trembling hands out to him. This was too much for a six year old to handle but here I was expecting the worst.
We were trapped. Hunters had us surrounded from all sides so either we drown or we die by sword and fire. The Alphas knew that even if we fought, most of us would still drown. Hunters included. Beta pushed me towards the Pack House as a loud cracking noise took over the dam. Water began to spray out. "DARLA, RUN!"
I didn't know who yelled. But I didn't care. I ran as fast as my little legs could take me, not taking a second look back. I felt hands grab me and lift me up. I looked up to see my father. "I'm not going to let you die, I promise sweetheart." Next thing I knew I was tossed to the Beta and thrown inside the pack house as the metal doors were slammed behind me. My nurse locked the door and grabbed me. She ran as fast as she could to the top of the Pack House where the rest of the children were.
I could hear the roaring water on the other side of the wall. My heart was telling me everyone would be okay but I knew deep down, I had just lost my most of my pack family today.
