The man looked down at his shoes and slowly nodded.  "Yes, it belonged to a childhood friend a long time ago, but then she passed away. The mansion has been abandoned ever since her death for seven years. But it seems to be occupied by something, now."  He trailed off from his sentence.  I tilted my head and pressed the matter further.  "What do you mean? How do you know?"  The man looked me directly in the eyes.  "There-there has been the extremely gross smell that seemed to have come overnight. It's been affecting all of the villagers, so we had to evacuate them. Whatever it is, it seems to be dangerous and wanting people to leave."  I nodded, taking note that there might be a strong odor that we'll have to deal with.

"Thank you for your information, sir. Now, could you please point me and my comrade in the direction of the mansion."  The man nodded and lead us towards the gate of the village and pointed up at the mansion up on top of a hill.  "This is the place."  The man said.  Kanda didn't hesitate to pull off the ivy from the iron gates and sliced off the lock with Mugen.  "You had a good start to the evacuation plan, but you and your group need to leave, just in case this gets dangerous."  Kanda firmly commanded the man.  "O-of course! I'll let them know."

And with that, the man left, slipping and sliding down the hill.  I watched him disappear and turned to Kanda.  "Ready?"  I nodded.  He looked at me for a moment longer before opening the gate and together we walked up to the cobbled road and towards two large, rotting doors.  I reached out and grasped the rusting door handle and I carefully opened one door.  A draft blew past me and a horrifying smell overwhelmed my nose.  I slapped a hand over my mouth and moved away quickly from the door.

My stomach was doing backflips and it definitely wasn't helping me stop myself from vomiting.  Dead corpses filled the entire house and a dried, dark brown substance was spilled on the walls.  "What the hell happened?"  Kanda cautiously stepped into the rundown foyer of the mansion and looked around.  "I don't think the Akuma will be showing themselves just yet....ugh."  I gagged midsentence and entered the room behind Kanda.  I started to feel dizzy from the overwhelming smell and I clutched my stomach.

Kanda's P.O.V

I felt a hand grip my shoulder tightly and forced me to turn to look back at the person.   "K-Kanda...I can't take it anymore..."  (Y/N) trembled in front of me as she clutched her stomach with one hand.  "I need to get fresh air, Kanda..."  She tipped to one side and almost fell to her knees if I hadn't caught her and carried her outside of the mansion for air.  "I was about to pass out anyway, too,"  I said simply.  I leaned her against a wall and watched her as she took big gulps of air.

The sight of her feeling weak made me feel a pang in my chest.  "You care a lot about her, don't you?"  A voice called out to me.  My senses heightened and I unsheathed Mugen, readying my stance at the same time.  There was a giggle that rang out.   "I apologize for frightening you. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Katherine and this is my home."  She gestured to the mansion behind her.  I glared at the girl.

She looked about 13, with blonde hair and bright red eyes.  She started walking towards the mansion before turning back to me.  "Would you like to come inside?"  I didn't answer her as I moved over to pick up (Y/N) bridal style and carried her carefully back into the mansion, following Katherine.  The door closed behind me suddenly.  "What the hell?"  I exclaimed.  The blood and corpses were gone from the floor and walls and were replaced with luxury furniture and marble floors and glistening chandeliers.

Katherine smiled at me as I rested (Y/N) on a sofa.  "Oh! Please wait a moment while I go and tell my parents that you are here."  I watched her skip up the grand staircase.  I waited for a few moments before I heard her voice ring out.  "Mama! Papa! Wake up it's my birthday!"  Then two demonic voices followed her own, one male and one female.  "You can not have your party until those people are eliminated,"  I growled and looked back at my weakened comrade.

I had to get her out of here.   I unsheathed Mugen and started slicing down at the front doors. The nice foyer that was once there was replaced with the original smell of decay.  This time though, the air mixed with laughter.

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! OH, I WANTED YOU TO JOIN ME AT MY PARTY, BUT MY PARENTS WILL NOT LET ME. OH WELL! I GUESS I HAVE TO KILL YOU NOW!"  Katherine reappeared at the top of the staircase.  Her skin turned a greyish color and her hair turned navy blue.  Black stars formed on her forehead.  "A Noah? (Y/N), you brat! Wake up!"  I ran to (Y/N)'s side and tried to shake her awake.  No luck.  Suddenly, two Akumas busted out of a wall, causing dust and rubble to come tumbling down on me.

I shielded (Y/N) from the rubble and groaned.  I looked down at her and groaned as some pain coursed through me.  Her (e/c) eyes slowly opened and smirked weakly at me.  I moved away and we both peeked over the ruined sofa.  "I'm assuming those are your parents?"  (Y/N) leaned on her scythe, glaring at Katherine, who stood in front of her.  The girl giggled and leaped on top of one of the Akumas, placing a finger on her chin.  "Hhmmmm...I sense that whoever you were with has the heart, but you don't have it. Guess I'll have to beat the information out of you!"

The Akumas fired at us.  We both went our separate ways and attacked our own Akumas. (Y/N) took out one of the Akumas in one clean swoop and rolled out of the way when it came crashing down.  Katherine screamed in anger, jumped down from the remains of the Akuma and fought with (Y/N).  When I took down the last Akuma, I heard a cry of pain.  I turned and saw (Y/N) being held up by the throat by Katherine.  She was struggling against her.  "N-Ngh. Kanda! This girl is...is t-too strong! Back me up...here!"

As soon as she said that, a knife came flying at Katherine and pierced her right in the heart. Katherine dropped (Y/N) and stumbled backward and fell to her knees.  Her gold eyes looked up past us and smiled sweetly.  "Ah, John, have you come to celebrate my birthday with me? I hope so."  Katherine fell to her side, taking her last breath before turning to ash.  (Y/N) dropped to her knees, holding her side and having a coughing fit.  I wiped away some dust from my face as I moved to (Y/N)'s side and helped her sit up.  "I heard the ruckus and rushed here immediately. I had not expected Katherine to be a Noah."

We both turned to the voice and recognized him as the man that had directed them to mansion earlier.  He moved to the pile of ash and picked up his knife, wiping it slowly with a handkerchief.  "I'm John."  I helped (Y/N) up so she could talk to John.  "How come you were able to kill her?"  John sighed and gave a weary look at her.  "I used to work for the Black Order until I decided that it just wasn't for me. They allowed me to keep my weapons though if stuff like this ever happened."  He gestured to his knife, then to the mansion.

(Y/N) nodded slowly and her head dropped.  She must've been feeling really weak.  John helped as we moved her down the hill to towards the train station and into the train.  I thanked John and sat back in my seat as I gazed down at (Y/N)'s sleeping form.  That look that John gave her made me start to think about a few things before dozing off.
